I will never forget when I had dim sum for the 1st time. I was dating a girl from Flushing NYC and her family took me out to eat when I came into town. To this day I'm trying to get my family to try it cause it really is so good. Step out of ur comfort zone and u may find something u love.
I’m not Chinese but I love dim sum. You gotta try it. Servers walk about with food cart. If the foods good they won’t know much English. Just point at the dishes you want and keep an open mind. I love the radish cakes and shrimp ball. Chicken feet is interesting
I’m still the only one who eats anything other then sweet and sour chicken in my family. I ate at a Vietnam restaurant the other day (first time) and tried pho that had tripe and tendon in it. I never had it before and I’m not someone who has really had the guts to try that kind of thing until I seen Mikey start doing it with crab head liquid gold and lobster and crawfish heads. My first time took me a min to get past what I was eating but the taste was good and CLEAN tasting.
These are the go-to hole-in-the-walls I would always visit since college. When you only have $10 or even $5 in flushing and you need to stretch it out, these places are the satisfying ones.
My wife and I will traveling to New York for our first time and wanted to eat traditional Chinese cuisine. Thank you for this video and we will use your other videos regarding Chinese cuisine in New York as reference.
Flushing has so much to offer when it comes to cheap eats💜 Spam and egg instant noodles is truly a breakfast staple in Hong Kong. We have soya sauce chow mein too with congee (not so much the curry one for breakfast). Always jealous of Mikey staying in New York 😋
These are my fav videos. Not super into the high end eats, but I guess every now and then it's ok. When I hear Mikey tell his basement apartment story, I know I'm in the right place.
I went to a place called King Dumplings in Chinatown (74 Hester Street) NY, and I loved it since trying it for the first time. 10 dumplings just for $5, I always get the beef one. Very juicy they always make it fresh on order. I do also recommend getting the fish ball soup with it to wash it all down which cost $3. Very affordable and very delicious! If you haven't made a review video on it, I want to hear your opinion on the place. Happy Easter!
Mike we miss your cheap eats videos. I know you can afford fancy eating but we love these cheap eats videos. Nothing can be more real than hardworking people trying to get by, by serving fresh hot food for a lark.
That's really helpful for travellers visiting NY & getting some inexpensive breakfast & delicious affordable eats around town. Thanks for another great vid, love how you stuff the whole egg in that Bao bun...👍👍🤩😋
3:15 delicious Hong Kong milk tea it will go well go with the bun! Traditional Hong Kong cafe dishes!!! Everything looks tasty 👅 and delish noodles are nice and scrumptious
Hey Mikey, loved the video. We are going to New York in a week and wanted to hit as many food places as we could in both China towns. You mentioned at the end of the video something about a shuttle that takes you between the two China towns and I was hoping you could elaborate on that some more
I ❤️ your video of Flushing NY . A place where there’s lots of Asian eats if one is craving for affordable food with great value. Please continue with such awesome vlog 😁✌️💕👨🍳
it sounds like I need to bring a cooler with me to bring back a lot of goodies. Thanks for the tips. The way you put the egg in that bun reminded me of putting a Jamaican beef patty in cocobread. Now I want both.
Flushing Chinatown will be on our list if we ever make it back to NYC. The dumplings and buns look so scrumptious! I came prepared to watch your video today, with crispy basil / cheese / corn 蛋餅 here in Taiwan!
I see new video I click! Cheap eats even better! I'm curious about the radish cake and wanna try meat bun with tea egg! "I'll be okay for a while... Until breakfast number 2". Classic 😂
I am so glad I got a chance to go to Lucky Cafeteria before everyone starts going here and making it hard to get into after this video. Will say the food is/was really good.
Back to the NY roots, super awesome~ I only been to NY for really short time in the past and sucks that I didn't get to explore it more so these videos definitely helps :)
NYC is a rough place to be. I traveled there 2 times. It is a tough place to survive not to talk about being a tourist there. Even the food is soooo good i can not beare with the traffic environment.
@@greenmachine5600 @TechPodYT Is that because of the weather - i.e., the heat? I live in Brisbane (subtropical climate) so I'm pretty used to that. And yeh, I don't really have a choice cause my bro-in-law is getting married in the States around that time.
Always happy to see a new video from Mike Chen. I love this type of video where you showcase local cheap eats from around your area. Amazing Video, keep up the great work!
This came right when I needed it. Was planning on going to Flushing Sunday. (Micro Center on Kissena, then the gas station with Tim Hortons, finally Flushing)
I need to come here one day...spam in Australia is sooooo expensive so its treat for me n the kiddies every so often $6 a tin!! We love it fried with an egg on toast... mmmm mmm... the noodles looks amazing i must try it one time 💜🥰 Love u mikey!! U NEED to come to AUS soon weve some amazing cuisine ♡
Flushing has changed so much I don’t know where to go when I visit, I stay in Korea town pretty much but got to go to China town for the picking duck they’re so good 😊
His Karne Korean BBQ/Steakhouse restaurant is permanently closed. The Shaku Ramen (Shaku Therapy) restaurant in Flushing has mixed reviews you can read on Yelp, google and seamless
I don’t know if I can trust him, he says “trust me you are not going to be hungry” and “it will fill you up” but I see him eating all this food like it was nothing 🤣 keep it up Miky I adore your videos👍🏻👍🏻
puts a smile on my face when I see HK style cafes. I love the shit outta them. my go to would always be either instant noodles or chicken steak, its just comfort. and HK style milk tea is absolutely my favorite kind of milk tea
Not knocking the quality/taste of Magic Spoon, but you really gotta love it to be spending ~$10 a box for it. I rarely even buy normal cereals at regular $4-6 prices.
As soon as you shoved that egg into the bun, I gave you a like. I did the same thing at work and people looked weirdly at me. What easier way to enjoy an egg than that?
New Lesson Learnt The more Y's the more I wanna Eat it !! haha Very Nice to see These Places of Budget Food in 1 of the most expensive Cities in the World !!
Er mah Gerrrrd...I was just in Flushing yesterday! I kinda hope I can cross paths with him someday. I pretty much schlep all the way from Brooklyn almost every week because of these videos! Does it take like an hour and a half? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely.
For some reason anytime I heard Mikey say "numby" I don't think of numbing, I think 'ooohh is nummy -num-yummy' 😆 took me a minute to realize he meant numbing 🤦♀️

I'm scared because I don't know anyone who knows dimsum and I wouldn't know what to do when I walked into the restaurant

@@SuMtOnE it's so dope isn't it. It's like a little dumpling buffet that comes to ur table.
Here’s the type of videos I love , local real handmade food that’s affordable! More of these please!! 🙏🙏🙌🙌
Agree with you. Don't need that fancy 200 star hotel breakfast or so. Nice cheap local real homemade food for me.
Agreed
I like these more than the recent string of dimly lit high end stuff.
Agreed
Why not both?

You should do a cheap eats and hidden gems series in diff states. I love these vids, it’s like.. back to basics, let’s goto Flushing.

Nothing better than a cheap eats video in New York!!
Eating them would be better
These are my fav videos. Not super into the high end eats, but I guess every now and then it's ok. When I hear Mikey tell his basement apartment story, I know I'm in the right place.
Like being real. For his average viewer some of those super high end eats are waaaaaay out of our pay grades lol
Well agreed, the past 6m or so has been a lot of poorly lit high end places. I like the cheaper eats better.
The high end restaurants are aspirational. It’s good to be exposed to all levels of cuisine, if only to be more knowledgeable about food.
Mikey in NY is the best. Him eating all of Korea in the height of COVID is a close second.
finally! your editions of cheap eats!
Was wondering when you would show these again lol!
have a wonderful day bro
You too Richard!

Thank you for coming back to NYC!!! I love it when you introduce us to local cuisine. We don't have to travel far!!! 😆
Great video Mike hello from England! The bun stuffed with egg dipped in chilli oil looked amazing!
The ‘curry noodles’ we call Singapore noodles in aus usually with roast pork, chicken and prawns :)
I was just about to comment this! I was like... they look suspiciously like Singapore noodles... LOL

You just blew my mind with that beef patty trick
I grew up in Flushing and have eaten at so many of these spots. The food choices are unbelievable on Main Street. Highly recommend.

Worst time to go in August.
Yeah not the best time to go, i recommend now, spring or fall. If you don't mind the cold, winter is amazing.

I do love the dumplings and the pork buns 😋 I have to try the ramen with spam. Yummy food video
Pork ball and organ meat congee with youtiao, I could eat this everyday. Crack an onsen egg on top and its the ultimate comfort breakfast.

Definitely the British influence in Hong Kong.
This video came at the perfect time - taking a short trip to Flushing now!
more hong kong content please!! it is so nostalgic for me and i miss it🥺🥺
Looks like I need to head back to Flushing soon, because those dumplings looked AMAZINGGGG. 🥟

key word: you. he has a gigantic appetite, but its not the normal sized human appetite.
The man’s appetite is impressive!! Yet another
Eggsellent video. Thanks again Mr Chen.
Normal ppl would have a hard time eating a single meal he eats let alone ALL of what he eats in a day lol
Hey Mike, couldn’t find the tea egg recipe you mentioned in the vid. Would love to try it out.
When you have a chance, try the Polish pierogies with sour cream, it's delicious 🙂
Was in NYC recently but never got chance to go here..looks like so much delicious dim sum 😍

I always have scallion pancakes in my freezer, seriously they make the best wraps ever!
@12:30 what is that infernal beeping?
You should change the channel name to "Strictly Noodles"! LOL Love it.
I am most definitely trying the tea egg and pork bun and chili oil that looks delicious! What a combo! 😋
That is it after two years am going to try magic spoon!!! I will keep you guys posted!!!

Since I live down the street from Flushing, I am going to see about that tea egg. Thanks Mr. Chen!
I’ll be moving there in a couple of weeks and I cannot wait!!
Agreed!! This spring is going wacky weird.
Whatever happened to that noodle restaurant you were going to open last year? Or the other place in TX?
I think Flushing Chinatown is bigger than Manhattan one now. It certainly feels way more vibrant
Your audio in Yummy Dimsum is killing me!
