  • How gorgeous was Paula and Mike’s Toronto Golf Club wedding?! This was one we were so looking forward to for so many reasons, especially once it was confirmed that Ontario made a move into “stage 2” earlier than anticipated. I remember talking to Paula and Mike right at the beginning of 2020 and feeling very excited about what they had planned. They had to reschedule twice but third time was a charm and the day surpassed all our expectations.
It just feels so good to be filming “full” weddings again. Not only is there a little more to film, but we get to have more collaborative relationships. There are more vendors to work with and most importantly, I’m not filming solo. We have an insanely good team of second shooters to bounce ideas off and it’s great to have a fellow team member who you know has your back on a busy and stressful day.
The forecast leading up to Paula and Mike’s wedding was rain, rain, thunder and rain, before a miraculous cloud clearing in the morning. Funnily enough (or not) , It’s been a running theme for many of our weddings so far this summer. Kinda like Mother Nature giving us one last “gotcha!” before couples can actually get on with getting married.
Anyway, we had a picture perfect day, other than a brief 45 minute weather “sneeze” which meant moving the ceremony from the lawn to a sheltered area. It was no problem though, the rain plan (pulled together by the Juniper Events) was so good that it didn’t actually feel like a rain plan and the ceremony was as beautiful as it would have been otherwise.
As for the rest of the day….it was just fun. The vibe was so relaxed with plenty of time to explore the grounds of Toronto Golf Club and get ALL the footage we could have hoped for. Sometimes portrait sessions can feel a little rushed and it makes SO much difference when we just have an extra half an hour here or there. I think some couples forget that the portrait session isn’t just about photos, it’s about spending time together away from the hustle and bustle of a wedding. It’s time to be intimate, share jokes and have an experience that’s about the two of you.
We know some of our subscribers are mostly interested in the way we shoot and what we use, so for those folks here’s some info for you. We shot with 2 Lumix S5 cameras (hand held all day, other than speeches) and a Fuji XT3 on the gimbal. Lenses used were Sigma Art 50mm, Rokinon 85mm, Fuji 18-55, Fuji 50mm f2 and Viltrox 23mm. All shot in the HLG profiles and coloured with the White in Revery Adagio LUTs.
A big thanks to the amazing vendors who helped us make this film. You should check out their work:

Thank you. We shot in HLG on both the S5 and XT3. But now we prefer using Vlog on the S5 and HLG on the XT3.

@@Filmsimulation Thank you! When using Lumix, I shoot in Vlog (actually this particular video was HLG, but I typically shoot VLOG). ,Then I apply the Panasonic Rec 709 Lut (with a colour wheel before it, to adjust WB, exposure etc), then colour correct (balance, add some contrast etc) and then add a creative Lut (usually white in revery Dolce 2 at around 60%). Hope that helps!

@@KismetCreative thank you for answering my questions! Ive been trying to get into a wedding business but I'm gonna focus on pre-weddings first as I'm a solo shooter. Hope you got some tips and even workflow color grading on your youtube channel! Great videos!!

Very good work! May I ask, why you replased Fuji and use Lumix now?

Thank you! I didn't replace Fuji - I used to use a combination of Fuji and the GH5, but I did replace my GH5 cameras with S5's. Fuji and Lumix are both amazing but have different strengths. For example the IBIS is much better in the S5 but Autofocus is better on the Fuji and is also less prone to overheating. So I use the S5 for all handheld shots, as well as for long takes for the ceremony and speeches and the fuji is perfect on a gimbal with better autofocus. The fuji is also lighter and uses smaller APSC lenses. Fortunately both cameras are easy to match up so it's a great combination.
