It was to Granada's great credit at the time that they allowed the space for films like this to be made and the freedom for a person like Wilson to operate (even though I found him annoying). Looking at the concert at the end with Devoto rejoining the Buzzcocks I looked at how small the audience was. Nowadays with the internet these events would have been huge. Crazy days but a nice bit of nostalgia.
I agree completely. I think most of us disliked Tony Wilson, especially those from outside Manchester. It was only years later we realised what influence he had on great music of the time. These films are like gold dust. Sadly, popular music has changed so much, we will never see bands like this on mainstream media. Replaced by bland corporate driven blandness. There plenty of great music out there, but you have to look hard for it these days.
I can only agree with the comments. This insightful documentary encapsulates so much of the late 1970's music scene, althought it wasn't in the 'pop' musical bracket on national radio stations. Two musicians who worked together, created inspirational tracks, drew in other influential new musicians ( John McGeogh for example), and created a lasting, deep musical impact.
