I like how the R+S sits in the background, forced to observe in shame as the Sigilent just works muhahaha

You must have missed Dave's other recent video (#1621) where he spends a half hour using the MXO4 FRA :)

All LXI instruments talk SCPI and it the basic features commands are fairly standard between manufacturers. You might find the siglent can control other fgens from other manufacturers. I wrote drivers that talked to a keysight LXI psu and when we didn’t have one spare I tried a Itech psu, that also supported LXI, and it worked perfectly, but then I wasn’t doing anything complicated, though the itech psu was bidirectional and you could set a negative current limit.

Unless it checks the ID... I'll try another brand.

Siglent Bode Plot/FRA Mode in their scopes that support it, can use any Siglent ARB for FRA stimulus where the scope takes control over the AWB and plots the average for every frequency point in the sweep. Each point is measured IIRC 5x that while slower than other brands, gives a more accurate result with a single sweep. Nice demo Dave.

I have a siglent scope and function generator. Used it like this for bode plots many times

It is a great feature. It is why I recently purchased a siglent DSO and AWG combination to replace my older DS1054z and analog signal generator.
Its great to easily make bode plots without any real setup time. And you can do it with most siglent scopes I think! The dynamic range (8-10-12 bit) doesn't matter, as the scope internally switches the range anyway, making it possible to go down quite deeply.
The only real downside (in my opinion) is the minimum start frequency of 10hz. I sometimes work on mechanical systems with a relatively low resonance frequency, and it would have been nice to go down lower (measurement would take ages though, not that I mind).

For that low end you probably need to look for Dynamic Signal Analyser (DSA), many goes to mHz range. They can be very bulky tho.

Heh. A bit simpler than writing a GPIB program eh? Hello from the stone age 😆

i think that (using a GPIB -> lan or , GPIB-> USB) adapter this would even work with a old function gen with GPIB and this Siglent scope . SCPI is almost standarddized !

I use this function frequently. But I had to buy a new generator. Not all Siglent generators support this function.

The idea that you need a "license" to use a function of a piece of equipment you have paid good money for just totally sucks. If customers would just not accept those terms, and quit buying gear that contains licensed features they would stop. Wishful thinking. It would help if social media influencers would lead that charge.

Pretty cool demo, but I'd just whip out the $100 dollarydoo NanoVNA for measuring filters for HF. Definitely not the same class of instrument though...

Cool workaround for fucked up business practices. When you buy a device, a part of it it will stop working unless you pay more cash... Who would have thought that it was the thing with test gear too?
The automated frequency sweep test is a mighty cool thing! "Now, test this amplifier for me, Siglent..."

Im afraid electronic test gear (oscilloscopes) are not cars and not Sony devices. Everywhere You have information, what You have for what money. Other functionality is unavailable or available as a free demo for limited time. They doesn't disable anything that You payed already (unless its a Sony electronics).

I don't think the MXO4 can so this, neither Ethernet nor USB
most R&S spectrum analyzers can do it over Ethernet I think, though probably need to buy a software option for it...
I'm kinda surprised you don't have a FPC in the VNA configuration kicking around

    • @pauldenisowski
      @pauldenisowski 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Doesn't need to - the MXO has an integrated (dual channel) function generator.
