      First of all my comments are not hateful they are true! Here in America 🇺🇸 we still have that right to speak the truth. And give the fellow Americans a heads up on crooked places like Walmart that sells child labor products made in China and hidden under A American company that only stores Thees products and ships them to Walmart. Have a nice day y’all 😉

    I, like Craig Moan, was overwhelmed by my new to me 10k gallon above ground pool. I got a 30 minute crash coarse on cleaning and chemicals from previous owner so I was very glad to find this video. Your instructions are easy to follow and since I have the same pump/filter equipment as you I now better understand the operation especially the backwash process. Will be looking for a vacuum hookup procedure for this equipment. Thank you for the video. Well done!!

    I have the same (or similar) Hayward sand filter. Anecdotally, I’ve been told by a couple of different people to make sure to always rotate the lever clockwise. Even if you miss the setting you want, you should rotate it all the way around again instead of rotating counter-clockwise… I guess it supposedly makes the part last longer. 🤷

    Hey so when you’re backwashing or cleaning the pump basket, and then turning the pump back on, make sure to fire it up on high speed for 5-10 minutes for the pump to prime and purge all the air out the basket and make the basket look 100% clear of bubbles, then switch it to low speed and run it as long as you want.

    Hey Jim … I used to have a pool, cleaning business and all I used was Omni products. This is used by the Olympics. All you need really is one bag a week it’s two pound bag then you won’t have to use chlorine tablets , baking soda or anything ells. If the pool is used heavy or if it rains a lot you toss in one bag of Omni shock . That’s it . You don’t even have to dilute it. You just walk around and sprinkle it on the edges..
    cheers !

    • @DIYJIM
      @DIYJIM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should not be much different than what I explained just might take a couple days. I would start with the chlorine levels first. Than the Ph levels. Let you pump and filter on 24 hours a day until you get your levels good. Don’t stress it is really not to hard, take your time. You can start with some shock that will raise your chlorine levels. Hope this helps, have fun with your pool this summer.

  • @israelflores4331
    @israelflores4331 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The reason why the PH is going down is because of the tablets you are using tablets are only to keep a chlorine reading for the week and summer only if you keep using tablets only the Cyanuric Acid in your pool is going to be super High! Good job on back washing the filter ever week to keep a good water circulation if you stop over using chlorine tablets you don’t have to add the baking soda so much for that pool 1/2 gallon of chlorine and one table a week on summer is enough .

    • @israelflores4331
      @israelflores4331 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also if you want to eliminate the odor of chlorine you can add some non-chlorine oxidizer that’s is good to eliminate chlorine odors and body oil’s and help your chlorine to work better.

    I use only liquid clorine, baking soda and 3in clorine tablets and my pool water is crystal clear. I am having trouble vacuuming up dirt from the bottom. Is there something to make particular stick together to make vacuuming easier?

      Flocculation is when a chemical, or flocking agent, is added to the green pool water. The solution causes algae particles to bind together and sink to the bottom of the pool. After the particles sink, they can be vacuumed.
      Make sure you vacuum to waste.

      @@DIYJIM Yeah i wish I could upload pics...the cartridges are just another way for companies to make money. The cartridges aren't cheap if you have to replace it every week. I went through 4 within the month and not one didn't slow the flow of the return without me taking it apart and hosing it down once a day, sometimes twice.

    Don't dip test strips in the pool for 15 seconds. Directions say to dip it for a second and wait 15 seconds for the reading. 2:55 If you pause the video you can read it on the bottle. 50 test strips are $8 so for 16 cents a day I test my pool daily. A pool can go cloudy fast if you're not checking. It's cheap insurance. Don't put tabs in the skimmer if you have a heater. Very corrosive. That's why chlorinators are downstream of a heater. Have liquid pool chlorine (10% or 12.5%) or even household bleach which is 6% or 7%.on hand if you need a quick chlorine boost. I use liquid chlorine because my cyanuric acid (stabilizer) is a little high. Tri-chlor tabs are loaded with CYA and liquid has none. Algae feeds on phosphates from decaying bugs and leaves so keep the skimmers and pool bottom clean.

    Jim thank you so much I was doing basically what you do except I have a smaller 15 foot pool and the water was crystal clear til I decided to add algecide now it's all murky so I'm going to drain some water out add fresh and go back to my simple chlorine tablets and baking soda and I shock it twice a month that's really all you need to do I have a skimmer and I put 3, 1inch chlorine tablets in that twice a week and fill my floating basket with baking soda 3 times a week .I also only use the test strips ,as I bought one of those fancy test kits with all the numbered bottles it was not reliable and was riduculous,the test strips are easy, affordable and always accurate.You are so easy to listen to and understand I really enjoy watching you I liked and subscribed,God bless you my new go to pool guy.If any one reads my comment this video is better than any other video if you want simplicity,affordability and crystal clear water everything Jim tells you to do works I know from my own experience,this is the man and the advice to follow.!!!😁🦸💖

    Hi, that was great advice and your pool water looks excellent! What you could add to your routine is checking the CYA level because you are using di or trichlorine tablets, about half of these tablets is cyanuric acid. Don't let it get higher than 35 or so would be my advice. And if your water ever gets dirty and it isn't crystal clear anymore use a floculant. I use flovil tablets that are very effective. I live in an area where there is desert sand now and then, it is awful for the pool. Best regards.
