Absolutely loved this video mate, as you know im really new to wild camping myself and the first time i went out i felt like it was a disaster, i arrived later than planned and set up in the dark, i forgot my stove so didnt eat haha what made this refreshing is seeing you having a few learning curves yourself, i think its easy to watch other people on here and they make it look so easy which makes us "normal" folk feel out of our depth but we all have to start somewhere, i really loved you didnt edit out the few niggles you had, they made me laugh even haha you're a top lad and im really enjoying your content bro ❤
Thanks so much for the comment bro, yeah I get that. It is very hard to get started, but all that matters is that you did. It only gets easier from there. Just got to realise we're all the same, and we all can learn 😁🤙🏼 Appreciate the kind words bro, glad you're enjoying my visa 😁
If you're new, ask questions, we all were new at some point. You're still out there having a go. With experience comes knowledge. Keep at it my friend, enjoy you're time out 👍
Well done matty....you have a great sense of humour 😂..you done fantastic on your 1st adventure..ive subbed to follow the rest of your journey and watch you mature into seasoned bushman
Hi Matty, really enjoyed the video, good work. Don’t worry about not having the skills yet, they’ll come. The important thing is getting out there and doing it. You’ll learn as you go. One small piece of advice (you never asked for 😊), be really careful with fires in pine forest, they can burn down into the ground (all the old pine needles build up over the years) and travel so your fire pit looks like it has gone out but it can come alive later and burn the forest down! I tend to only have a ground fire on a rock in pine forest. Anyway thanks for clearing up the site and other peoples crap too, I do that! Enjoy mate !
Thank you for the comment! Yeah I tried my best to prevent that from happening, I dug a little fire pit clearing all the needles and ripped up any bits of root I could see. I also poured water over the base in the morning. I feel like that should be enough but I am always learning. Thanks for the tips 👍
Hi matty refreshing to see some one not getting it right first time . And seeing someone having the same struggle as I have. To get the tarp taut, and I love the self-mockery keep up the good work
Hi Matty, good to see someone new giving wild camping ago. Try using jungle knots for guild lines , and make up a per made ridge line with two or three prusik knot loops already on it for your tarp. These are quick to deploy and there is a ton of "how to" videos on TH-cam on how to make and use them. Thumbs up bud. Regards Moose
It’s good to see someone new like me at wild camping Love watching camping vids but not many show the real struggle 😂 I’ll be following you on your adventures mate Nice1
Enjoyed your first solo foray, you have an eye for composition and I enjoyed your comments. You kept in what some would call outtakes but that is reality. Great job, short, simple and sweet 😎👍
Good job Matty! Thought you did well for your first camp. I'm quite new to bushcraft too and one thing I've learnt is that some of the lads on TH-cam make it look ridiculously easy 😁 thru years of practice no doubt! Now I'm not a vegetarian, but that curry looked lovely! Enjoy your camping!
You’ll get to a point things will start getting quicker and easier. Before you know it you’ll be doing more complicated and advanced stuff. Everyone has to learn the basics when starting out and you learn by doing. Making mistakes is part of the learning process and you learn more from them than you do by everything always going smooth. You also have to learn what you like by trying different bits of kit and ways of doing things to see what works for you in different weather, time of year, location, etc… Keep at it and watch yourself with that axe. Don’t get complacent with it, they can cause serious long lasting damage. Cheers and good luck from the U.S. BTW, you looked like you had a lot of fun so I subbed and am looking forward to watching you grow your skills.
Mate, you crack on. At least you have the courage to do it. I tried it once, loved it but my pack was farrrrrr toooo heavy tbh. I’ve subscribed mate, will keep watching!
Enjoyed that 👌 your correct I stumbled upon an old washing machine today in a forest was a few hundred yards from a layby but i couldn't bag that up and carry it out, the effort someone put into dumping it there in that location is more than nipping to the tip
Indeed they are, some quality footage of stealth camps you have, I'm going to start racking up some myself now that I'm getting tired of travelling to Scotland just for the open access
Good job on the vid mate, hope you continue with the wild adventures and enjoying life in nature. Nice1 for tidying up after others it makes a difference and also inspires others to do the same. All the best 👍
You do you man. No one should care what you eat. I eat pretty much the carnivore diet. I've got a lot of food allergies. We all got things we deal with and things we believe in. I thought you did really well for your first time. Keep it up!
Just watched your video solo camping I have to say I. Enjoyed it it’s nice to see someone out for the first time alone learning as they go and the thing about being a vegan that’s your choice it does not make you a bad person keep the faith
I enjoyed this. Too many bushcrafters out there who edit the clumsy bits out and i think that portrays them as perfectionists or machines. I look forward to seeing your skills progress. Good job man. 👍👍
We all have to learn somewhere, just be safe and leave no trace wen u leave. The most important thing is ur outside in nature and ur enjoying urself. Ull learn from ur mistakes and Ull get better the more times u do it. Ignore any Facebook groups if ur following any and watch lots of bushcraft youtube videos Ull learn a lot 🥰👍
Awesome vid. Get out and get some my man. The skills only come from doing them and learning from them. One small bit of advice- always keep your gear tight. Take from your bag what you currently need and are using, keep everything else packed. Two reasons- one, and most importantly, you wont' go nuts looking for something, and two- if a storm comes (or fire, or vicious beast- bears in my area of the planet) you'll be able to get to what you need and know exactly where it is. I always practice with new gear before I go out. Pack and unpack your bag a dozen times before you go. Familiarize yourself w all your gear. I can't tell you how many times I've reconed my bag. One other tidbit- separate all your critical stuff that can't get wet into ziplocks. Trust me- one solid thunderstorm can soak you through and through, and having that extra layer of protection can save your life. Enjoy your twigs and berries!
Subscribed - excellent video. Curious as to the knot used at start (the one that took two hours) :) - I always have to rely on using the wee plastic things with two holes that are normally on tent guy lines. Once tarp is up, I spend hours adjusting and trying different options - makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable.
Thanks a lot mate! The knot I used is called the taut line hitch. It was great but struggled a bit tying it with excess rope to feed through. Im sure it will only get easier the more I use it. Excellent knot though 👍
My first time watching your videos, and I’m a subscriber! Solo trips are daunting, and you’re doing great! My advice is assume a 10 dollar spend on paracord every trip- just cut the sections you need and move on. Every experienced bushcrafter has ziplocs full of cut paracord 😊 Don’t apologize for being vegan. I’m a hunter and eat what i kill, and vegans (to me) are the only other people with a thoughtful perspective on their food. So much better than ‘hunting is terrible but i buy meat at the grocery’ hypocrisy. You do you, and i’ll be watching!!
Thanks for the comment and the tip mate! Yeah that makes sense to not just limit myself with paracord 😁 I'll never apologize for being vegan, theres nothing I need to be sorry about not eating innocent animals 😂 Yeah the hypocrisy is strong on some people 👍
Morning Matt .. really enjoyed your first camp..I'm about to start my own journey into wild camping and I can't wait..just to be in those woods hearing the birds and the woodland smells,I can't wait. Anyway well done bud look forward to seeing more camps.
Cheers Matty. Great location and set-up that. Only just started out myself doing solo camps. I love it. There's always that extra level of anxiety and edginess when you're out on your own i think, but equally really peaceful and good for the mind. I'm a fellow vegan. Good on you i say. Curry looked great 👍. Tofu works well with curry also, especially if it's thawed after being frozen then marinated in the sauce. Just a bonus tip there that's nothing to do with camping 😂 ATB Dan
Nice one Dan, sorry I thought I replied to this but just seen I didn't. Solo camps can get spooky but gotta have a strong mental attitude. Love tofu when its been frozen but its a right nightmare to make 🤣 All the best mate 👍
New subscriber here, i like that you admit you're still learning 👍i'd love to wildcamp in my local woods, haven't got the balls, slightest noise and i'd need a change of underwear 😅, so i stick to nearly wild camping sites, if you have a Tumble Dryer, the fluff from that is a great fire starter, i use it to light my firepit in my garden, works every time, well done, would love to see another Forest camp.
What a brilliant first woodland camp full of great stuff,I’ll have to watch again it all. It beggars belief you may get hassle for being vegan,I’m veggie and like you I don’t give a toss what people think everyone to their own.
The best way to cut paracord is not. Instead of cutting just use your lighter to separate it. Burns through the cord and automatically seal both ends. Also doesn't dull your knife. I'm over 70 and I've been doing that with those type line since I was a wee lad.
I was laughing when you tried to do your tarp line peg out 😂 it’s truly amazing the mess a length of para cord can get itself into when dragged along the woodland floor 😂 been there bud. Skills will develop mate. TH-cam isn’t short of folk telling you how to do things. Do what you do & enjoy the process of learning 👍 ATB
