Ironically the best episode of Miami Vice took place mostly in New York
They could make another Vice using the same cast, but there's one key ingredient missing: The 1980's. I've watched Vice on tv since the pilot and it was the TIME in which it took place that can never be simulated or replaced. This is my favorite tv show ever, and I just dont think resurrecting the show would be a good idea. No matter how much or how hard anyone may try, the 80's cant be brought back. Without the 80's, you just cant have Miami Vice...it's impossible.

I know you're right, even though I keep wishing for a reboot. Miami Vice was able to use the great music from the '80s. There is no music worth using today. There is no MTV. Now I'm depressed.
Like Tubbs said to Crockett in Free call, "Do you wanna live forever." Vice came and went at the right time. Best pilot and finale to any show for me. I wish it go on and on, but that's life!

brilliant, way ahead of its time, unlike anything on television in that moment. i'm not trying to compare this to soprano's in any way, but from the context of strictly 80s tv drama's, this series just doesn't seem to get enough credit as an influencing line of demarcation between that which came before & after. each episode, at least for the 1st two seasons, was a must watch cinematic event. this season 2 opener could have existed as a theatrical movie on its own.
SUPER DUPER LOVELY! JUST BEAUTIFUL. YOU REALLY DON'T HEAR THAT QUALITY OF MUSIC IN TELEVISION. MOST TV COMPOSERS REHASH THE MAIN THEME OVER AND OVER AGAIN THROUGHOUT THE SHOW. NOT JAN HAMMER. HES THE BEST!

Saw a recent interview of Don Johnson where he said they're working on a new Miami Vice show. Don't know any details other that that but DJ said it was "in the works". It could turn out like most re-hashed TV shows and be a complete disaster... or... it could be really great. I personally would love seeing the original people again, obviously not in the same roles mind you but showing them somehow working together in their respective positions as they've moved up through the years. They could even work in something with Tubbs' long lost son he thought was killed when Orlando Calderone had his men remove the baby from the car just before Angelina was killed in the explosion, and maybe even work in Crockett's son "Billy" possibly making him one of the hot new Vice detectives in OCB. There are any number of viable stories that could be written to make a new version of Miami Vice exciting, not to mention possibly getting a little resolve to some very old questions we never had answered back in the 80's. I guess we'll see . . .

Most reboots aren't good because of two reasons: it's either the reboot is trying too hard to be different from the original or it's trying to recapture the original.
@@sandrasanders706 Yeah that's my only real concern, which is will it be anywhere near the level the original show was. I honestly don't know but it has happened before and I know I would sure love to see this show come back in some form... but it all depends on how it's done and who's involved. I think people would love to see it happen but, as already indicated, I think pretty much EVERYBODY would have serious reservations as to how it would turn out. I guess time will tell if they do it at all.
@@ComputerLearning0 True Mike..it all depends if Michael Mann is involved..I hated the movie version of MV..plus, Anthony Yerkovich and John Nicoella have passed away..I know Dick Wolf took over in season 3 for MM, when Mann was doing Crime Story..I dont want way too different, but the vibe of coolness..please keep that..instead of a reboot, how about a revisit as a miniseries??
If it happens, I would love to appear as a background extra for whatever they're shooting. I live and work near Miami and am just aching to have a legit reason to take my Vice inspired clothes out for a spin.

A bit of trivia here but younger viewers probably don't know that when originally aired on NBC, Vice was one of few tv shows broadcast in stereo. This made music like this have all the more emotional impact at the time.

Jan Hammer made the best music for that time... So "defining". These two episodes had the best score and music selection of the series in my opinion, as good as they all were.
