'Quickly Men!' barked Captain Quackbeard rising star of infamy in the pirating world, 'we need to get these gems offloaded before that scallywag relies that were about to be the most infamous pirates in the archipelago!' as he spoke, one of the crew dropped a barrel, busting it open and causing a mass of gems to spill out onto the dock. 'ARGH! careful, he could be here any minute!' Captain Quackbeard did his best to not think about how many gems were slipping through the boards and into the sea below. at this point he feels a tap on his shoulder, he turns to see a familiar small man trying to get his attention. 'Bosun! not now, can't you see I'm busy panicking!' Bosun (who was not a bosun) took a deep breath, he was never a talker 'w-w-w-well sir, I-I-I think there's something you need to see' 'what? what could possibly be more important that worrying about my reputation?' 'ah, well. I-I-It's just that-' 'spit it out man!' 'h-h-he's here' 'Is that all?' the captain blows off the words and begins to turn around. And then he relized what Bosun meant. 'Wait what!' spins to face the sea. there on the horizon, was the ship he had hoped to outsmart, and who's captain was probably the angriest pirate on the planet at this point. 'w-w-what do we do sir?' 'relax Bosun, now is not the time to panic!' at that moment, another crash was heard. turning, the Captain sees that it was another barrel of gems spilling its contents and his reputation out into the sea. 'that time is now Bosun' 'what, sir?' "THE TIME TO PANIC IS NOW!!!"

This was super fun and let me tell you. This duo was incredible. I follow you both and this was a great surprise, keep up with this incredible content and hope watch this duo again!
Hi Jesse, hi Alex. It’s really great watching you play this game. I’m pretty interested. I might have spotted a mistake at 16:56: I think you must have more temporary cubes than any other player AND empty spots to take control of an island. Deepreef Crag has 2 temporary cube slots, so with only one cube Alex is tied with empty spots and doesn’t get to take control of the island, just like he wouldn’t if he was tied with one Jesse’s cube. (See the bottom left example on page 16 of the rulebook)
I haven't finished watching the video, so I don't know if you correct this later, but I'm pretty sure the ability from Fire Island (and others) increases your hand size, but not the amount of cards you draw per turn. So, for example, at 34:22, Jesse should only be drawing four cards, not five.
I believe when you trigger end of game, you get a +2 bonus to everything. So if your opponent attacks you, your power goes up by two. If someone tries to influence an island, you’re influence is rated at +2, so they’d need two blocks to remove one of yours. Speaking of influence, I also think you need to have more than the island’s natives to gain initial control. I might be wrong, but there was another play through with John D. Clair explaining the game. Thanks for another sailing! It’s a wonderful looking game.
Its the video the gaming world has been waiting for. Nice job guys. Maybe this will tip me over the edge to make this KS #21 since I started 4 months ago.
You guys need to do more videos together. You play off of each other very well, and you're both able to explain what you're doing while playing is a clear, but also concise manner, and that's huge for people that learn a game best from play throughs.
One more rules correction...to take control you have to have more cubes than empty temporary spaces and more cubes than anyone else. so in a case where there are 6 temporary spots and no one else is there, you must place 4 cubes before you can take control
This is cool! My 2 newest youtube content creators getting together to play a board game. I just subscribed to Quackalope this morning and subscribed to BoardGameCo a week ago. Wish I could join you guys! Looks fun!
You only keep cubes on special end game conditions. I think Fire Island increase Hand Size not draw Size. You start with a Handsize of 6 and Draw Size of 4. You don't have to play all you cards every round. 1:04:35 Ther is one building blocking influencing the isle, you first have to fight the garision (island) and destroy before taking over. Without this building is totaly wortless, because every one can come by and drope a cube destroying all your buildings. Did you count the advancments they are worth 1/2 a coin if i am correct.
It's a really awesome game. Pirate game like few. Battles are the highlight IMO! The way they work is just so exciting and fun every time. And the way you gain loot from battles and all that is amazing
Merchants and Marauders is still my Pirate game of choice .... this looks fun, for though it doesn't look to have the theme M&M has .... thanks for the play through.
Tipped me over on backing this kickstarter. You did the same for Sorcerer as well. I just have one request... if the Twilight Imperium 4e expansion holds true... a game play of Quackalope, Quackalope Adjacent, Boardgameco, and whatever others you could gather for the heinous revelry that is a max-player Twilight Imperium. (And if you are lacking a player I'm not too far from Jan in MD)
I am so excited for this game, pity it is a kickstarter and will take so long to get. 😂 Great to see it played though by my two favourite TH-camrs. Thanks for this hope it happens again.

I was a backer, but AEG keeps charging for things that should be part of the pledge already. They aren't using Kickstarter to give value, but to pocket more money. I'm out. No thanks AEG. I'd love to see you guys play a more story-based game, maybe something like Tainted Grail or 7th Continent. I know they aren't on Kickstarter right now, but those are two I want to get and wish would be relaunched.
We had a friend go through it - I think we got most of the rules correct. I know we messed up control when someone firsts gets it - but that’s only a one off mistake on the 2 control tile.
@@Quackalope mistakes: - battle board is wrong bild up - the island control is if you haf MORE than other players and empty space - deck hand level 2-4 is an ifluence OR sail. not both. - icon x icon effects (e.g. weal) counts the icons on that card. not on the hand - the island effect is you can hold more cards. not you draw more cards. - the permanet control marker still count if you do not control the island anymore - draw 1 extra card is at the end of your turn. so for the next turn not for that turn. - forts help you defend the island. if you control an island with a fort, other players may not interact with that island (place or remove cubes, produce, load/unload)
@@Quackalope and those last 3 buildings could not have been built, as you were tied and didn't control the island anymore. Don't feel bad, there's a lot of rules to remember.
that flop of open waters seemed like it accelerated the game and kind of predicted that one player was going to be using the 2nd row mid island to push that. As soon as quack went there with a heavy produce, I fast forwarded to the end and the board state was about what I guessed. Didn't love that.
The game still came down to the wire - 2 points difference and Alex knowing the game better now could have done so many things to offset my end game drive.
