First time hearing this or hearing of tue band. If i didn't know it was a Claypool, Lennon colab, I would think its a lost 70's Beatles track. So much of Sean's dad's influence on this sound and Les adding just the right touch to complete the homage.
Other fun Les on upright bass tunes are: "The Toys Go Winding Down" - Frizzle Fry album "Over The Falls" - Brown Album "Coddingtown" - Brown Album "Jilly's On Smack" - Green Naugahyde album
Maybe it's just Sean Lennon sounding a bit like his dad that makes me think Beatles, but it feels like Les is channelling a McCartney kind of style of playing here. I love it!
My first encounter with Les and his bass was when I heard a supergroup Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains (or C2B3, where he was with Buckethead, Bernie Warrell and Brain). I was a huge fan of Buckethead at that time, but when I heard Les for the first time it all became obvious that I am a bass type of person :) Worth trying also! BTW, Les plays also a whamola - this kind of analysis could be interesting too ;)
If you want Primus with an upright there are plenty of great choices, but my number one suggestion is Mr. Krinkle. Another few options would be Over The Falls, Coddingtown, or Jilly's On Smack
You should check out Colonel Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade next. My favorite song from that group is Buzzards of Green Hill. Also, at some point you should listen to Oysterhead... Les with Trey Anastasio
When I first heard this song I was hooked, and the more I listened, the more I found it to be genius! A 21st Century Beatles'esque Psychedelia Fun Fest , So Good!
Jack Parsons was a rocket scientist who was an occultist, friend of L Ron Hubbard, and follower of Aliester Crowley. He helped found the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Their version of Court of the Crimson King is amazing! Here’s a couple of my favorite Claypool side projects you need to give a listen: Sausage Holy Mackerel Of Whales and Whoa Oysterhead Frog Brigade
@ Sausage is the original Primus lineup, and more cartoonish than Primus. Holy Mackerel Les plays every instrument on most of the songs… They were released 93-94ish
Baylock "General Store" I'm not sure anyone has heard of these guys, but I was all about this bass playing back in my high-school days. Also why hasn't The Hives been on this channel yet??? Plenty of good bass to go around.
If you love upright bass, you owe it to yourself to check out Danny Thompson in the folk-blues-jazz group Pentangle! Nicknamed "hardest-working bass in folk", he puts a vibe into the trad material that wouldn't have been out of place in Return To Forever or Parliament.
I haven't heard much from TYS, but I did spin some of their stuff way back when! Probably been 10 years, and was back in their earlier days. I need to revisit them!
Sean Lennon is an absolute mastermind. His dad has nothing on him. Paired with Les. This is the best thing since and could be even better than Pink Floyd at times. I can’t wait for the next delirium album.
You REALLY need to checkout Les with the supergroup trio Oysterhead (featuring Les Claypool, Trey Anastasio, and Stewart Copeland). I highly recommend the songs "Pseudo Suicide" and "Army's On Ecstacy".
Sean wrote this song. While they do have a very similar style at times. Sean Lennon is an absolute mastermind. His dad has nothing on him. Paired with Les. This is the best thing since and could be even better than Pink Floyd at times. I can’t wait for the next delirium album.
Pretty sure Mr. Krinkle was the first upright bass Primus song and it's a banger! Before you dive into Mushroom Claypool, go back to the magic of Primus. It's Claypool at his absolute best.
Please make a video about the Brazilian band Charlie Brown Jr. The bassist is considered a legend in Brazil. Suggested songs: Não Deixe o Mar te Engolir, Como Tudo Deve Ser, Tarja Preta, O Preço, Papo Reto. Thank you!
CLD *very* good; nothing like it in the Primus catalog, sorry. It's very much its own thing, but there are overarching themes to somewhat constrain and frame it. This is 100% a Beatles upgrade. That's why the bass goes "klug klug klug" instead of "clank clank hammer clank clank".
I’m a Primus fanatic and I’m going to give you a list of Primus songs you should review 1. Too many puppies 2. Is it luck? 3. The toys go winding down 4.hamburger train 5. DMV 6. American life 7.sgt. Baker 8. Those damned blue collar tweakers 9. Frizzle fry 10. Pudding time 11. Harold of the rocks 12. Lacquer head Both #8 and #11 are about meth heads hamburger train is just one giant bass solo sgt. baker is the song that got me into Primus too many puppies is the song that inspired fieldy from korn to write blind and it has an interesting story about the military also you should listen to any of the Primus and the chocolate factory album it has a lot of really amazing percussion from the fungi ensemble thank you for your consideration Primus sucks!🤘ciao
Hello Sir, I'd like to report a crime. Tesseract released what many are hailing as AOTY, the absolutely amazing War of Being, and we're out here starving for more Amos breakdowns. Thank you!
Every Low End University video about claypool:
20 seconds in: "not what i expected"
Checks out.
First time hearing this or hearing of tue band. If i didn't know it was a Claypool, Lennon colab, I would think its a lost 70's Beatles track. So much of Sean's dad's influence on this sound and Les adding just the right touch to complete the homage.
Love when I get to see Les play Bass vs Lead Bass
I love this song. The composition, the vibe, the lyrical content…. It’s gorgeous
Les Claypool plays upright bass with a bow on the Primus song "Mr. Krinkle" from the Pork Soda album.
Other fun Les on upright bass tunes are:
"The Toys Go Winding Down" - Frizzle Fry album
"Over The Falls" - Brown Album
"Coddingtown" - Brown Album
"Jilly's On Smack" - Green Naugahyde album
OH NO
NOT THE WHAMOLA
Don't forget the South Park theme.
Over the Falls is also peak upright tastiness.
Les plays upright on two songs from Jerry Cantrel's Boggy Depot as well as three of Tom Waits 90s albums like Bone Machine and Mule Variations.
Awesome band. No one wondered what Primus and the Beatles would sound like until they heard it.
Fun fact, the keyboard player also worked on the most recent Mastodon album “Hushed and Grim”
Maybe it's just Sean Lennon sounding a bit like his dad that makes me think Beatles, but it feels like Les is channelling a McCartney kind of style of playing here. I love it!
The drummer is channeling Ringo a bit as well.
My first encounter with Les and his bass was when I heard a supergroup Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains (or C2B3, where he was with Buckethead, Bernie Warrell and Brain). I was a huge fan of Buckethead at that time, but when I heard Les for the first time it all became obvious that I am a bass type of person :)

"Amethyst Realm" is another amazing Claypool Lennon delirium song , Bubbles Burst is very interesting as well once you figure out what its about lol
Very Beatlesque, And I am not just saying that because of the Mellotron flutes in the intro.
You should check out Colonel Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade next. My favorite song from that group is Buzzards of Green Hill. Also, at some point you should listen to Oysterhead... Les with Trey Anastasio
and Stewart Copeland...
@downumop duh, how could I forget Stewart Copeland? 🤦
When I first heard this song I was hooked, and the more I listened, the more I found it to be genius! A 21st Century Beatles'esque Psychedelia Fun Fest , So Good!
Great call on the compression, hadn't caught that knee but it's a huge part of the sound here. Love the flange(?) on Sean's voice, too
Thanks! I really dig how it shapes the bass sound here. Missed hearing what was on his vocals, but it certainly made it dreamy!
I met Sean back in 1995. He was playing bass in Cibo Matto.
This song really gives me that old psychedelic Beatles feel. I guess Sean comes by it honestly.
Jack Parsons was a rocket scientist who was an occultist, friend of L Ron Hubbard, and follower of Aliester Crowley. He helped found the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Sean almost sounds like his dad when he sings 🥲
This song has a Beatles feel to it.
Their version of Court of the Crimson King is amazing!
Here’s a couple of my favorite Claypool side projects you need to give a listen:
Sausage
Holy Mackerel
Of Whales and Whoa
Oysterhead
Frog Brigade
Geez, so many to get to!
@ Sausage is the original Primus lineup, and more cartoonish than Primus. Holy Mackerel Les plays every instrument on most of the songs… They were released 93-94ish
Please do Granny's Little Yard Gnome off of the Holy Mackerel album! Lol always wish Les will play it when I see him live.
Check out “The Awakening” on the Highballs with the Devil album. A proper little bass ditty.
For sure John’s kid. That voice.
Listening to the song boomerang baby, you'd honestly think it's a long recording of John. It's wild.
Take a look at their "Cricket and the Genie", both movements are great!
This is great, but Oysterhead is my favorite of Les' side projects.
Hey Mark. This version/style of music reminds me of a modern version of the Beatles - Sgt Peppers album. Crazy. Keep it up my guy.
Check out “easily charmed by fools” next. Such a weird, funky song with some excellent harmonies from Sean
Keep up the great work!
I appreciate you!
the melodies and tones cut SOOOO much better in the album version
Banger!!
Baylock "General Store"
I'm not sure anyone has heard of these guys, but I was all about this bass playing back in my high-school days. Also why hasn't The Hives been on this channel yet??? Plenty of good bass to go around.
Love this band!

Check out " Conspiranoia " by Primus ... incredible tune ... the whole " green naughide " album is up there , too
Check out their song "little fishes" from this session. A little more interesting bass wise.
You should check out Les Claypool and the Holy Mackarel !!
Les uses a bow on Mr. Krinkle though there isn't a whole lot of variation in the song. It has a pretty great video too.
You should react to Millington! Their lead singer also plays bass and writes some smooth as hell stuff
And they release tabs
Next up... Les Claypool and the Holy Mackerel - "Holy Mackerel" album version. Also, Paulo plays for nearly every Les side project these days.
You should react to One Better by Les Claypool
Sounds very Elliott Smith to me
not a bass player, but someone who loves bass, and I love your channel. Ever listened to Thank You Scientist? Try their Live at Backroom studios!
I haven't heard much from TYS, but I did spin some of their stuff way back when! Probably been 10 years, and was back in their earlier days. I need to revisit them!
This road leads to "Oysterhead" legends Les, Trey and Stewart Copeland
Getting strong “she’s so heavy “ vibes
Sean Lennon is an absolute mastermind.
His dad has nothing on him.
Paired with Les.
This is the best thing since and could be even better than Pink Floyd at times.
I can’t wait for the next delirium album.
You REALLY need to checkout Les with the supergroup trio Oysterhead (featuring Les Claypool, Trey Anastasio, and Stewart Copeland). I highly recommend the songs "Pseudo Suicide" and "Army's On Ecstacy".
Noted!
Dude on the keyboards is Brazilian. His name is Rasta and he has a youtube channel.
Sean wrote this song.
While they do have a very similar style at times.

can't do it? let's just do it! beatles all the way
Look at the song Little Fishes....it will make your head spin
Definitely Beatles-esque
I vote for Sausage 😊
Pretty sure Mr. Krinkle was the first upright bass Primus song and it's a banger! Before you dive into Mushroom Claypool, go back to the magic of Primus. It's Claypool at his absolute best.
It's a Claypool-thing,
You wouldn't understand. 😂
Thanks a lot for the video! 😊👍🏻
You should listen to oysterhead very primus like but a little different another one of les claypools bands. And les claypool and the holy mackerel
Seems I'm the only one that this sounds incredibly Beatlesy
Super beatle-ly
What did you expect when you've got John Lennon's son on vox? I love it!
SPAZ’S HOUSE DESTRUCTION PARTY
with a UPRIGHT BASS the talent and creative way on this song check it out-- Primus - "Jilly's On Smack" - Bonnaroo 2011 (Official Video) | Bonnaroo365
Please make a video about the Brazilian band Charlie Brown Jr. The bassist is considered a legend in Brazil.
Suggested songs: Não Deixe o Mar te Engolir, Como Tudo Deve Ser, Tarja Preta, O Preço, Papo Reto.
Thank you!
This was such a sgt peppers song
Da Beatles....
The melodic-ness is probably due to Sean Lennon's involvement
Check out Oysterhead next....
Can you please listen to spineless by stick to your guns
Learn the slap techniques if you get an upright. It’s totally its own thing compared to electric slap
For me Claypool Lennon Delirium it's like Tame Impala with big balls.
Why is that so accurate? 🤣
@LowEndUniversity hahahaha
This is one of those songs I can't tell if I like it or think it's complete rubbish lol.
I’m a Primus fanatic and I’m going to give you a list of Primus songs you should review

First!

Day 22 of asking for A million Bucks by ALL
Hello Sir, I'd like to report a crime. Tesseract released what many are hailing as AOTY, the absolutely amazing War of Being, and we're out here starving for more Amos breakdowns. Thank you!
Oh thank heavens that Sean Lennon inherited his voice from his father and not from his mother...
Well now I know that progadelic is not a genre I will be getting into. lol
Les sucks!
Wack color scheme. 💩🗑. Be Original.
