The BOSS rifle was sort of the joke weapon of the mod, with the creator saying, "[it is] deliberately intended to be poorly suited for use in Doom." It needs to be cleaned regularly in order to not jam, and it is not much more powerful than the regular assault rifle. Funny enough, it is also the weapon you used most. Gotta say, you used it fairly well, even if you neglected its upkeep.
Yeah, standard Boss is pretty shite tbh, Custom Chamber Boss on the other hand is a fantastic rifle, since the chamber doesn't get gunked up anywhere near as fast, so jamming is far less of an issue. Shame those are super rare finds.
nah, the normal boss is fine, it downs pretty much anything without shields in one or two shots and as long as you clean it on every second reload or so, it doesn't encounter any major jams. its just as good as the default rifle in most circumstances

When I said it was shite, it wasn't because of damage or armor penetration or anything like that, 7.76 does good in both those departments and the Boss especially does, I was referring to the rate at which the gun gets gunked up with the base version.
if real guns were that unreliable that they jam every 4-5 shots than alot of weapon making companys would go out of buisiness real fast and we would be using swords and bows still. this mod makes them unrealistically bad.

@@jamesryan099 Not really, the only gun that is unreliable is the boss rifle(the gun that br0leg uses) while literally any guns have zero jamming...except for the main rifle that you can find ammo easily for it but sometimes the rifle jams and you have to eject the DRM mag
@Daniel Wong I also had no idea how to unload/reload the revolver when I wrote that, it was one of the few things I ended up having to read the manual for after playing through the boot camp map as it isn't mentioned in the boot camp for some reason XD.

I do understand that guns can malfunction and jam in real life, but putting that realism into a game, AND emphasizing the mechanic to a point where it isn't realistic anymore is really stupid. it gets really repetitive and even annoying. I'm fine with some games that do a good jamming mechanic, but just putting a random procent value for a jam to occur is really lazy game design.
To be fair, the sniper rifle is one of 2 weapons that can jam in the entire mod xp. And said jamming can be mitigated with regular cleaning of the chamber.

Ha, just wait until you notice the vulcanette/chaingun start to malfunction. There's a cleaning/repair function too, but it's really just better to ditch it for a new one unless you want to spend like 10 minutes holding down the key combo and reading the little repair texts, especially if you've been using it frequently and for a long time. That was a big surprise when I updated zdoom and hideous after a good while. Ha. Good times... Don't mind it too much though, since chainguns are sometimes fairly plentiful and I find the rifle with an atrached grenade launcher more flexible, even if I have to reload somewhat more often.

I would recommend getting and playing the Bootcamp map that was made for it, it helped me understand the mod and actually play it competently. Also possibly join the Hideous Destructor discord server, not only are there people there that would be willing to help you, but also addons I haven't seen elsewhere.
It's pretty fun once you get the hang of it. I recommend smaller, but still fairly open maps to play through a couple if times to get your bearings and adjust the keybinds to your liking. I spent a lot of time with Diabolus Ex, Doom Recon(I think) and Recon Redux (multi map, but works very well, especially the first one) to practice. Beware and be aware of the frag shards (green motes of light that fly around and revive enemies), evil barrels (or just barrels in general) and don't even bother with archviles, they're really, really strong, fast and can revive a lot of enemies in the general area after they die

Some protips here. 1. Playing Hideous Destructor "in a wrong way" will trigger some lads. It's inevitable. While generally it is fun to find out things for yourself, HD as a milsim game that expects you to be a "boss of this gym" regarding in-game knowledge. SOMEHOW that property of the game copied itself into the minds of the people too hard. Fun shit. HD is fun either way, just don't get frustrated. Also, the best way to reload revolver is to hold use and throw it away. 2. > Playing on Hideous. You're pretty good. However, hard spawns are more of a gimmick when playing HD - it's a "butthurt to the max" difficulty. Don't ask what's b e a u t i f u l is, just know that it turns HDest into HDoom. 3. So you wanna be "Boss" of this game? On 1:10 you can pick ammo back. Be gentle with the rifle. 4. 1:15 - Boss loves to penetrate. 5. 1:57 You either get slow because you're stunned or because you have too much stuff = weight. You can use "+Use" to see what's in your inventory. And you have to switch between different guns of the same type via different numbars. Don't ask me, inventory management is a binch in HD. Also actual stamina is determined by the heartbeat and your time sprinting. High heartbeat = high stamina usage. Calm boi sprints longer. 6. 2:08 Potion allows you to power cum. I hope that description is enough to interest you in its actual beneficial sides. 7. 2:50 I honesty don't even know wtf happened, ahahah. Just remember that sometimes fists are the only guns you ever need. Yes, even against hellknight/baron. 8. 3:55 Shotguns suck against armor. Blame bullet rework. 9. 4:05 Congratulations, you were visited by the magnificent boss jam! Endure the lock and roll torture. 10. 5:18 Employ fisting. Turn left and right to acquire momentum and jam that arm deep enough so that no enemy will be able to stand on its feet. "Reload" fisting allows you to slap that bitch hard enough that it will recoil back. Ussssseful. 11. 5:40 Utilize the "bonk-levator" strat. Stand so that elevator will never close by blocking its ascension with your body. Much funnier. 12. 5:55 Hunter (Pump shotty) has semi-auto. In this mode every pumping action will just unload 1 shell, so you kinda mechanically fuck yourself over. 13. 6:30 Dropping with "Fists" equipped allows you to survive bigger heights. Supposedly HDGal uses his hands instead of his own ass, so he doesn't rip the skin. Aeouw. 14. 6:42 "Press F to win". A lot of stuff requires "+Use". 15. 6:44 You dont die when you are killed. Happens not every time actually - you merely go into incapacitation mode. 16. 6:45 This gun on the floor makes every enemy eat shit from one shot. tl;dr for everyone: don't forget that this is just a game and you're supposed to have fun. If you don't like the idea of trying to be Papa Franku with two pistols juggling between 9mm and "eating" 4.26mm, unjamming Boss, loading Bronto all while stapling your ass shut in a slow-mo mode caused by blue armor so you don't bleedout while low on blues so that powercum procs - well, I really doubt this mod will be any funny. It has its moments but they only open up when you become a literal John Wick in this mod, going hole-in-one with pistols while playing "Demolition Man" famous quote in the background, while playing with ZM66.
Only ever launched HD once and even with the video tutorials it was overwhelming to try and learn, but I admire the effort put in this mod to turn DOOM into a tactical shooter.
I don’t know if I am too late, but quick advice, before playing, go to hd options and set it to causal, then you can start by playing boot camp wads to get familiar with both your weapons and enemies, and once you start learning the basics of the mod, you may be able to enjoy the heck outta this HIDEOUS mod.
My favorite maps for this mod are the ones with shitloads of open space. Also great video, personally annoyed people are gatekeeping this mod. We all struggled to learn this mod at some point.
I still don't know why people act like elitist with HD. I would assume that it's because a loot of people shit talk the mod for being so different and all / because it's so hardcore, but when you learn it, it's so good. Gatekeeping really isn't helping...
Thing is, most of the mod's community doesn't gatekeep, most of it welcomes newbies and will try to help them learn the mod if asked. There are people who gatekeep ofc, but they're in the minority in my experience.
@Brupcat Yeah, you gotta love the crowd that doesn't even try to learn a mod and it's mechanics before shit talking it and try to dictate what should and shouldn't exist for a game. And as far as the gatekeepers in the mod's community, in my experience gatekeeping is very much frowned upon in much of the mod's community.
If you ever play Hideous Destructor again, I recommend finding and playing the custom Bootcamp map, it was a major help in getting me to be able to competently play the mod.

Nah, you want Anti-Doom, play something like Mortis. You can actually still be quite badass in Hideous Destructor if you know what you're doing, and especially if you bring addons into the mix.

There's a couple moments where you may need to get a little creative, but it's pretty doable, especially if you have a little collection of herps, derps, ieds and doorbusters. Plus a fair amount of hand grenades. Also a berserk, but that's just for fun or trying to skedaddle out of sticky situations. I like taking the thunderbuster (plasma gun) with me for some "recon by fire" and area denial with the AOE explosive mode since the blast shocks the area for a little while after the initial explosion.

in hideous destructor you play as a normal marine, while in doom, you play as the doom marine / slayer. I guess that is how I see it... It is really fun to play on very atmospheric maps, like ashes 2063.

Well not really, for me at least the only thing it takes to entirely dominate HD is patience with both the mechanics of the mod and yourself. Maybe by doing a bit of research may speed the process of learning the basis of the mod, but by playing you may learn everything that is crucial to understand it
Hey glad to see you improved a lot, but just to note there are some options like if you hold E you can see what you can do with the gun (Such as if you hold unload and altfire on the sniper you can check if it is clean or not), and also try to remember to hold down reload to to make sure you reload most of the weapons because 90% of the time it will just make you look like your are fumbling around.

shotguns arent very good against the tougher enemies in HD because they have shields, which take a reallly long time to whittle down with lower calibre amunition. you really wanna be using rockets or 7mil ammo, that is of course, if you can get your hands on any

tl;dr for everyone: don't forget that this is just a game and you're supposed to have fun.
If you don't like the idea of trying to be Papa Franku with two pistols juggling between 9mm and "eating" 4.26mm, unjamming Boss, loading Bronto all while stapling your ass shut in a slow-mo mode caused by blue armor so you don't bleedout while low on blues so that powercum procs - well, I really doubt this mod will be any funny.
It has its moments but they only open up when you become a literal John Wick in this mod, going hole-in-one with pistols while playing "Demolition Man" famous quote in the background, while playing with ZM66.
Only ever launched HD once and even with the video tutorials it was overwhelming to try and learn, but I admire the effort put in this mod to turn DOOM into a tactical shooter.
I don’t know if I am too late, but quick advice, before playing, go to hd options and set it to causal, then you can start by playing boot camp wads to get familiar with both your weapons and enemies, and once you start learning the basics of the mod, you may be able to enjoy the heck outta this HIDEOUS mod.
ngl, this actually looks kinda engaging. my taste in shooters is either super arcade, or super tactical, and naught in between honestly.
My favorite maps for this mod are the ones with shitloads of open space.
Also great video, personally annoyed people are gatekeeping this mod. We all struggled to learn this mod at some point.
I still don't know why people act like elitist with HD. I would assume that it's because a loot of people shit talk the mod for being so different and all / because it's so hardcore, but when you learn it, it's so good. Gatekeeping really isn't helping...
Thing is, most of the mod's community doesn't gatekeep, most of it welcomes newbies and will try to help them learn the mod if asked. There are people who gatekeep ofc, but they're in the minority in my experience.

@Brupcat Yeah, you gotta love the crowd that doesn't even try to learn a mod and it's mechanics before shit talking it and try to dictate what should and shouldn't exist for a game. And as far as the gatekeepers in the mod's community, in my experience gatekeeping is very much frowned upon in much of the mod's community.
You can fall greater heights if you pull out the fists. Also don't bring a sniper rifle to CQC with demons.
If you ever play Hideous Destructor again, I recommend finding and playing the custom Bootcamp map, it was a major help in getting me to be able to competently play the mod.
Thats got to be the most anti-DooM mod ever. Reminds me Chubzzdoomer's, "Call of DooTY" on TH-cam.

@@McBanditHope I had to Google those map packs, they're for Brutal Doom right? I've used Brutal Doom maybe a couple of times with Zdoom when Zdoom was still an active port. I dont really care for it. Not dissing anyone who enjoys it though.
That said, I dont care for Call of DooTY the mod for DooM played on GZDoom.

Nah, you want Anti-Doom, play something like Mortis. You can actually still be quite badass in Hideous Destructor if you know what you're doing, and especially if you bring addons into the mix.
i've played maps of chaos and hell on earth starter pack with HD, its not bad.
Hideous Destructor is honestly a fantastic mod. A shame it doesn't jive well with most maps made for Doom.
Probably would work well for maps made before Doom 2, lower enemy count and all.

It actually plays fairly well with Doom 1's maps. There's a couple moments where you may need to get a little creative, but it's pretty doable, especially if you have a little collection of herps, derps, ieds and doorbusters. Plus a fair amount of hand grenades. Also a berserk, but that's just for fun or trying to skedaddle out of sticky situations.
I like taking the thunderbuster (plasma gun) with me for some "recon by fire" and area denial with the AOE explosive mode since the blast shocks the area for a little while after the initial explosion.
I've mostly played it with Obaddon maps with lower enemy counts personally.
at the same time there are a few maps like Ashes 2063 and Diabolus Ex where HD works really well

But considering the number of maps that have been released for Doom, the number that work well is extremely small.
in hideous destructor you play as a normal marine, while in doom, you play as the doom marine / slayer. I guess that is how I see it...
It is really fun to play on very atmospheric maps, like ashes 2063.
btw, at 6:29, about that falling mechanic - you can just ignore it, fall, wait a bit of time until your heartbeat calms out, and then press "jump" to get up and go forward like nothing ever happened lol
or you can cheese it by playing dead before youvfall amd get back up much faster that way

Well not really, for me at least the only thing it takes to entirely dominate HD is patience with both the mechanics of the mod and yourself. Maybe by doing a bit of research may speed the process of learning the basis of the mod, but by playing you may learn everything that is crucial to understand it

Hey glad to see you improved a lot, but just to note there are some options like if you hold E you can see what you can do with the gun (Such as if you hold unload and altfire on the sniper you can check if it is clean or not), and also try to remember to hold down reload to to make sure you reload most of the weapons because 90% of the time it will just make you look like your are fumbling around.

shotguns arent very good against the tougher enemies in HD because they have shields, which take a reallly long time to whittle down with lower calibre amunition. you really wanna be using rockets or 7mil ammo, that is of course, if you can get your hands on any
