    Someone always want me to be perfect, good at this and that academically and at sports. They want me to be at least state level, and then at home they get mad at me and give me long lectures. Today I started practicing and she got really annoyed and told me it will not help if I practiced serves so now I’m going to watch this video but I know it will help. Thank you 😊

Please inform us dear sir.

    I must fundamentally disagree with tension-exercises for racquet sports. They produce the maximum resistance at full extension, and least at lowest extension.
    _There is no question they are strength-builders._ But the body adapts strength-extension-resistance profiles under the constraints it is accustomed to. In explosive racquet acceleration, you want the maximum resistance at the _start_ of the stroke, where the biomechanics are facing inertia.
    Physics dictates, by the conservation of momentum, that yes, power starts at the legs thence through the waist. High-mass/low-velocity momentum is converted through the shoulders, arms, and wrist to low-mass/high velocity momentum at the blade.
    The closest strength-training match to best model this conversion is the use of a lightly-weighted blade for stroke-reps, and an unbalanced barbell (light plate at one end, heavy at the other) for power and maximum 'snap'. The weighted blade (~0.5 to 1.0 kg) is shadow-stroked for all attacking strokes 10 sets of 100 reps a day. The heavy weight, 3 sets for 10 reps, esp. for backhand and forehand loops. You don't need more than that; muscles can only strengthen at a given rate. You can keep upping the weight a bit, though.
    I can tell you that after a year of this I had some of the wickedest attacking shots in terms of sheer power off both wings, comparable to national players (Canada). That's not personal opinion. Art Barran, who was ITTF president at the time, 70's, was amazed when I played a forehand side-spin loop: "That's a _nice_ hook-shot!" What I didn't have was a good style philosophy. So I was always a poor _player._ But it had nothing to do with power, quality or consistency (my practice partner Greg compared me to a robot) of shots.

      You are totally right. Table tennis doesn't need a huge muscle (like a gym), but it needs a flexible muscle.
      I will make a video "how to stretch, warm-up, and cool down" next week.

    • @joshuarowe8410
      @joshuarowe8410 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont really quite get what tension-exercises are, are you disagreeing with this video, or like more commonplace 'lifting' routines and such? I assume the latter

      tubeist- dan hi. I am curious about your barbell comment. Could explain in a bit more detail. Are you doing bench press with it?
      Bicep curls? Dead lift? If you have to practice both sides would it not be equivalent to have equal weight on both ends.
      I like gym training for TT and I'm curious what you have devised.
      Thanks
      What city in canada are you in?

    Hello , teacher . You always talk about explosiveness... but in the middle of the game you have to do some variation , to prevent the other player to attack or difficulte the game for you... Sometimes the lack of explosiveness could be a suprise factor ? ... . Because if you add lot of power it could be good to the other player... maybe he can use your power against you... and maybe your footwork maybe do not respond well (but I´m talking for me... an amateur player )... . And of course ... train the explosiveness is somenthing really good... you can finish the point quickly , without waisting lots of energy on a rally .

    Very informative video. But one thing that makes me confuse is. On 5:45 you said "the technique of this player: his elbow very close to the body" and when I watched Xu Xin in slow motion. I found that He strech his hand while doing forehand attack. Which one is correct? Or, it's just how He (man in the video) position the ball!? Thank you.

    • @pingsunday
      @pingsunday  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Xu Xin plays far from the table a lot, and he also topspins with sidespin.
      If you play far from the table, you can use more of the forearm to have longer arm.

    the first exercises (min. 1.11 ) is very bad for the lower part of the back, the position is wrong, the eyes are to watch up, not the floor, when you do phisical exsercises that involved the back is very very important to know well how do it or you will cause injury

      that's right. But if you increase the weight gradually it won't be harmful.
      actually it's a well known exercise in body building for the whole back.

    • @TRANhanoi
      @TRANhanoi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As one with sciatica, I must agree. You should not do this without any guidance. His body is too low, and it is the spine that has to do the support work, not the back muscle.
      You should use some rubber bands, or if you are the gym, you can use the robe pulling machine for the training.

    • @hshinqety
      @hshinqety 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there's no work and lift by the spine, its the lower back muscles i believe.
      and i see many workouts for that area, what do you think about them?

  • @TRANhanoi
    @TRANhanoi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think when you practice alone, you should have a coach nearby (or send your movies to EmRatThich for correction).
    It is also a very easy way to develop wrong techniques, as I have seen many ppl do it in my club.

    im a forward spinner player
    When I play my forehand stroke it makes a sidespin instead of topspin thats why it confuse my opponent because it looks like a topsin ball but I want to know how to topspin the ball instead of sidespin .
    what should I do?should I do a shadow stroke in practice?
    but I want to maintain my forehand stroke with sidespin to confuse my opponent
    can you help me???

      Stop thinking about heavy spin, and focus on placement. When players become _top_ players, the other top players can read most of their serves. The focus then becomes producing and avoiding 3-ball opportunities.
      I quickly learned that the bottleneck on advancement was not on producing good serves, but returning them well.
      Finally, try standing back a foot from the table. You'll find more consistency in placement _and_ spin that way. You'll particularly find it easier to keep the serve short or half-long.

    • @mystyle8753
      @mystyle8753 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +tubeist- dan I can do short and long serves.i can make spin.usually when i play with people i dont have alot of timing problems but now that i working to maximize spin effect ill work also to better have a feel in timing higher tossed serves.also i like serving a lot lol and want to become a beast server.as for the rest of my game its acceptable tho i have problems with generating real topspin as the greatest yopspin i can have is slight jump of ball so do you have tips on it?

    in one video you said backhand dominant players often make reverse pendulum serves but why did ryu seung min made these serves?

    • @euphoria_kisses
      @euphoria_kisses 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raoul_s (1) You need variety in your serves. Doing the same serves over and over again is predictable. When your opponent doesn't expect another type of serve, they are bound to mess up their return, giving Ryu Seung Min an advantage early in the rally.
      (2) Similar to the last point, Ryu Seung Min was a Jpen player (penhold and using one side of the racket only). This playstyle relied on overpowering the opponent by finishing the point early in the rally. Therefore, RSM had to rely on being unpredictable, quick and explosive to get his points
      (3) Ryu Seung Min had one of the best footwork of all time, he could probably reach most returns from his serve easily anyway xD
      I'm forehand-dominant and I still use reverse pendulum to change up serves up and plan a new attacking strategy for the opponent. Hope this helped
