James Gunn is an amazing director who can make you laugh one moment and tear your heart out the next. I'm excited to see you on this journey through the MCU.
I don't think it's been mentioned yet, and some people seem to get confused by it, but Groot did actually die in the film. The "baby" at the end is his son. It's never really explained in the movie but James Gunn talked about it in an interview a few years back. Cheers from Florida.
@@CristyReactsyeah I still cry every time. I think what clicks for me with Groot in particular [and in guessing for a lot of people] is that he's just a pure soul; he's a ruthless killer when he or his friends are threatened, but he still has a kind of innocent quality about him. You can hear and see his emotions in every varied delivery of his 3 word line thanks to Vin Diesel's surprisingly nuanced and emotive VA performance and the incredible work of the VFX team. Others have already expressed similar sentiments, and I'll join with them now: the Guardians of the Galaxy movies are my favorite standalone series of films in all of the MCU.
@@CristyReacts even if James Gunn talked about it, I've never accepted that it's Groots' baby. Rocket did not plant a seed from Groot. He planted an actual piece of Groot, ( ie; a branch!) and that's what was growing in the flower pot. As an alien tree lifeform, Groot also can grow faster than Earth trees. *Spoiler alert way below. As evidence in GofG vol.3, Groots' head is completely separated from his body and he just rapidly grows a new one.
@@RandomPau Look up tree propagation, in which trees are grown from branches of other trees. His body was decimated in the blast when he took the full damage to protect the others. There was nothing to grow from. No body to grow a new head. Also IF your example were to hold up, then there would be no need for Rocket to have planted the branch. If it were the same as your example, he could have just regrown a new one immediately there right after we saw him blown up. Why didn't he do that like he did in Vol. 3? Because he couldn't. Because he was dead.
That's our Groot: making people cry for almost a decade! 😊 I'm so glad you got to Guardians of the Galaxy! All three movies are fantastic, and this is one of the best trilogies you will watch. There's action, humor, fantastic music, great characters, and SO much heart!! If you think you cried during this movie, you're gonna need an entire box of tissues for GOTG 3. Oh, and always, always, ALWAYS watch MCU movies through to the end of the credits. Loved your reactions!
Thanos is full CGI, but his movements, and facial expressions were done with motion capture. The actor who voiced, was mocapped, and who's face Thanos' was slightly modeled after is Josh Brolin.
The characters in this movie have translator implants which is why they all understand each other, and why it sounds to us like they are speaking English.
Fun fact: James Gunn, the director of all 3 Guardians movies, is now the co-head of Marvel Studios' rival company DC Studios. Theme-wise he said DC will not be the same as he did for the Guardians but formula-wise like introducing lesser-known characters he will do.
Who would have ever thought that a tree saying, “WE are Groot!” could be so impactful? 😭 After all of these years, still the second most cry-worthy line in the MCU! The first is still ahead of you (but no spoilers!!).
To answer your question about everybody speaking English, after the group is arrested and the officers are explaining who each prisoner is, if you look closely when they're on Peter Quill you will see Enhancements: Translator Implant In Neck. Everybody has one of those implants so you can speak your mother language whilst everybody else is able to understand you whether they know your language or not.
They don't explain the translator (at least from what I can remember) that's why I told you, if something is explained down the line I won't tell you so you can experience it and learn it yourself :)@@CristyReacts
Glad you enjoyed it. Fun Fact: when Quill drops the orb, then recovers it, that is a genuine fumble & recovery on Pratt's part. He stayed in character and Gunn liked it, so it stayed in the movie. I don't know if he'll ever appear, but Xandar is the home of Nova, originally a member of their Nova Corps, and later a Marvel character. Funny thing is that Saldana is really a trained dancer. 😄 She was also cast as Lt. Uhura in the 2009 remake of Star Trek.
I think why this is my favorite is because of the found family of the team and the humor! James Gunn did an amazing job with all three of the GotG movies.
Great reaction, and yes the Guardians of the Galaxy was a successful comic book series that ran through the mid 1970s with Rocket Racoon and early Starlord.. Love your open hearted empathy for the characters.. You are a very nice person..
The 1970s Guardians of the Galaxy were a different team which included Yondu. None of the characters from the current team were members. This newer Guardians of of the Galaxy team with Rocket, Drax, Groot, Gamora, Starlord etc made their comic book debut in 2008.
Starlord existed as a character long before he joined the Guardians. I used to have a graphic novel written & drawn by John Byrne about the original Quill. He was quite different from what we see today.
I used to have Marvel Premiere #4, the comic where Star-Lord made his very first appearance, but I lost it in a move. I originally bought it for $1, and if I still had it now (assuming it was still in mint condition, which it was not, even before I lost it) I could get several hundred times that price for it.

26:30 Yes, at least 99.99% if not all characters you see in all of the MCU are all directly from the comics. They are not 1:1 adaptions though - enough things were changed that it was unpredictable and new for even the biggest Marvel comics fans
Actually comics are made for different readers. Guardians of the Galaxy was popular for a small group of readers but not on the XMen or Avengers level. Everything you see in the MCU is either directly taken from the comics or mashed up or altered in some way to fit the story. James Gunn took huge liberty in changing these characters but made a fun and enjoyable movie series
Just to expand on this, you're right. A Guardians book may be more odd/trippy or funny while the X-Men was more of an allegory for the Civil Rights movement. Spider-Man is about a superhero that deals with very down to earth and relatable problems while also having superhero problems.
As hard as it is for many to believe, Guardians was a big risk for the MCU because you’d be hard pressed to even find comic readers that read the books. Marvel Studios held a 15 minute preview to try and build hype. I didn’t need to be sold on it, but it absolutely didn’t hurt. I got to see it on the Thursday sneak screening and it couldn’t have delivered more.
Thanks, Cristy, enjoyed another one. Groot is an older Marvel character from November 1960 (before the superhero rebirth). Groot first appeared in Tales to Astonish #13 (Nov. 1960). This was during the Scifi/monster comic era. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gotg_2.jpg. Looking forward to next week.
I wouldn't be surprised if this franchise ends up being your favorite of the MCU movies too. There's just so much heart in all 3 of them. Whenever you get to it The Suicide Squad from 2021 does something similar to this movie. Also making you fall in love with an unknown cast of characters but from DC instead of Marvel

Great reaction Cristy! Yes on the Groot costume for Halloween! 🎃Rocket Raccoon showed up in the pages of The Incredible Hulk way back in 1982 (Hulk confused, grrr). See you Monday for BTTF 3!! 😀
That's the real triumph of this movie. Any other MCU movie is pretty easy to get someone excited about. Guy in a flying metal suit. Super soldier made in a lab. Literal god from mythology. But this one has a raccoon and a tree? It's incredible how they didn't just make it a movie you could enjoy but make you get seriously emotional about a tree who has one phrase. It's not my favorite MCU movie but it's an amazing watch. Drax will grow to be a character you will love, I'll bet. I'm a little behind so I'll see soon enough.
Michael Rooker (Yondu) wasnt in much before this but he is known for playing one well known bad guy for at least 3 seasons on The Walking Dead as Merle Dixon
New sub, welcome to the marvel universe even tho you already seen the 1st avengers movie you will most likely enjoy the rest of the movies also....when rocket said i didnt ask to be made....keep that to memory you will know the meaning in the future. Great reaction cant wait to see the rest!
Thanks for the sub! Yes, when he said "i didn't ask to be made" it really made me sad-- what a true reality for a guy who is called a freak all the time. :/
im a die hard guardians fan, been one since vol.2 came out (i've read, watched, played anything that has gotg in the title, including the books, the cartoon and spin off star lord podcast) and you won't believe how happy i am to see someone connect with Groot over any of the other guardians. He's an amazing character with so much potential and James Gunn - as great as his work is - kinda screwed up with Groot's characterization. It's good to hear people still can see past the blatant cash grab and Groot's marketable looks and connect with him on emotional level
Really glad you loved this one! Like I said, while Avengers was really good and phase 1 helped set up a lot. I think Winter Soldier and Guardians is where the MCU was able to let go of its shackles and really delve deep into genre esc. films (Winter Soldier - political spy thriller. Guardians - Comedy space adventure and you'll see it as it grows.) Cool tid bits - The right-hand man of Yondu, Kraglin is James Gunn brother, Sean Gunn. He also did the mo-cop(motion capture) for Rocket, not just in this film, but for future films. James Gunn did the motion capture for baby Groot at the end. Vin Diesel even recorded "I am Groot" in other languages for the film.
Thanos is portrayed by actor Josh Brolin. He does the voice and motion capture. Thanos is full CGI but they purposely made Thanos’ face resemble Josh Brolin.
Michael rooker is the actor who plays yondu he's played villains in other films. He was in a film called cliffhanger , Mississippi burning and a bunch of other films
He's definitely a seasoned actor that has been around for quite a while. But the thing MOST people know him for these days before the Yondu role, was as Merle Dickson in The Walking Dead
Bradley Cooper is Rocket, Josh Brolin is Thanos & that’s Michael Rooker who plays Yondu, he was in the first season of Walking Dead too. and yes to Matrix & Footloose
Obscure is correct. I’m a comic reader and I did not know who Rocket Raccoon was until Marvel VS Capcom 3. There were several characters my friend and I couldn’t place so we looked them up and next thing you know Rocket becomes my favorite comic character ever
I watched you're reaction to this movie and the 2nd. You really need to do one for the holiday special and then guardians 3. The story of this team is absolutely amazing
26:36 This team was assembled to make use of a bunch of previously unrelated older characters in the Marvel comics. Rocket's original story was set on a world full of humanoid animals like himself (alongside humans and robots) - his girlfriend was an otter, and he had a walrus, hare and tortoise companions while the main villains were a lizard and a mole. 'twas all very cute. ^_^
You're really not alone when it comes to Groot dying. But yeah, the Guardians of the Galaxy was definitely a surprise hit. It did so much right, and it is just... beautiful. I can't wait for you to continue with their arc within the MCU. Just... make sure to bring tissues. Interestingly, Gunn initially didn't want to take on the Guardians, since they were such an unknown, but as he thought about it, something clicked for him when it came to Rocket, and he knew that, while Peter was more the main character from the MCU's perspective, Rocket was his main character. You really see it hit where he's talking about how he didn't ask to be made, here. He's crass and standoffish, but... it's a self-defense mechanism. People can't hurt you so much if you don't let them get close.
Hello 👋🏻. The actress playing Peter’s mom also played a girl in the first Captain America movie, one that kiss him when Carter came into the room. So, Steve could be Peter grandad😆
Yes, everything in this movie is from the original comics. Rocket Racoon has been around since the early 80's, created by Bill Mantlo if I remember correctly. Groot was an obscure character from a Marvel horror comic, if I remember right. Some of the characters look a little different, have tweaked origins and personas, but they all originate from different periods in Marvel Comics, brought together to create the team GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
@@CristyReacts Agreed. It has a more personal feel to their bonding...more like a family....than say the "work buddies" like AVENGERS. Glad you are enjoying the journey!
When you mentioned Yondu's beautiful blue skin tone I was just thinking the same thing about your eyes. Yes I would recommend that you watch Footloose. The original with Kevin Bacon. The remake is good also but you should start with the original. Thank you for allowing all of us to join you while you react to these movies.
As far as I am concerned there is nothing wrong about crying for a tree or plants they are living beings just like you or all of us and it also means you have a good heart and feelings💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍
thanos and hulk are done using mocap aka the actor wears a suit filled with dots and they transform their acting mixed with cgi it's also how a lot of video games are now made, it's not just voice actors it's people acting in mocap suits transferred and yes, they are all in the comics
6:05 "Should I watch _The Matrix?"_ 😯Oh! _Absolutely!_ It probably won't be as paradigm shifting for you as it was for me, but _you'll love it!_ It's sequels I'm kind of lukewarm on, even though their special effects, if you can believe it, were _orders of magnitude_ better, but they're not as good. _The Matrix,_ though is awesome.
"This tree made me cry" -- Now we have proof that Groot is part Weeping Willow. Marvel Lore FYI: Groot's language is based on vocal inflection and not on words. Technically, Groot did die. At the end you are seeing Groot, son of Groot. Parent Groots pass some of their "life learnings" to their offspring genetically, but the offspring have a personality of their own. Yes, all these characters were in Marvel comics. There are some changes in the MCU. For one thing, in the comics it was Thanos that killed Drax's family and not Ronan.
[didn't scroll down far enough initially to set that someone else already told you the first part] You're still right to mourn Groot; he did in fact die protecting the rest of the Guardians during the crash. Like some of earth's plant species, Groot's species reproduce asexually. The Groot you see growing in the flower pot is the offspring of the Groot we saw through most of the movie. Also, while Groot can only say a few words, his species communicate largely telepathically. Members of other species can learn to understand him; they just need to spend enough time with him for the link to be made. This is why Rocket understands what he's saying when nobody can. They only just met him
Cristy, you didnt show the end credits scene, with Howard the Duck, he had one of the first marvel movies, Howard the Duck (1986) by George Lucas, who made a movie called star wars
As someone who lost their mother to cancer when I was four, that intro scene hits harder then most can really imagine.

I'm excited for your Marvel journey!! Keep it up!!
The director cast a weeping willow as Groot on purpose. 😉
Don't worry, there's baby Groot. It's Vin Diesel's voice (both Groot and baby Groot)
Remember, the Power stone(the orb) has been left on Xandar. That's 3.
Guardians of the Galaxy is an emotional roller coaster
New sub, welcome to the marvel universe even tho you already seen the 1st avengers movie you will most likely enjoy the rest of the movies also....when rocket said i didnt ask to be made....keep that to memory you will know the meaning in the future. Great reaction cant wait to see the rest!
Thanks for the sub! Yes, when he said "i didn't ask to be made" it really made me sad-- what a true reality for a guy who is called a freak all the time. :/
also any character can be connected to and be relatable whether their a human, robot, and an alien of some kind
im a die hard guardians fan, been one since vol.2 came out (i've read, watched, played anything that has gotg in the title, including the books, the cartoon and spin off star lord podcast) and you won't believe how happy i am to see someone connect with Groot over any of the other guardians. He's an amazing character with so much potential and James Gunn - as great as his work is - kinda screwed up with Groot's characterization. It's good to hear people still can see past the blatant cash grab and Groot's marketable looks and connect with him on emotional level
Great reaction matey, don't worry everybody cries over Groot
Hey friend!!!! i love the tid bit about Vin Diesel:) how's the channel coming along?
The big blue alien in prison who gets a nose job from Groot is actually voiced by Nathan Fillion. Too bad it’s been altered so much you can’t tell
Groot is voiced by Vin Diesel.
@@genny5309 in multiple languages
Another great sci-fi comedy to check out is The Fifth Element (1997)! ✌🏼
The awe and fascination I see in your eyes is so inspiring. Love it.
🥹🥹🥹thank you
Thanos is portrayed by actor Josh Brolin. He does the voice and motion capture. Thanos is full CGI but they purposely made Thanos’ face resemble Josh Brolin.
Thanos is played by Josh Brolin who was Brand in the movie, _"The Goonies."_
"Should I watch The Matrix?" Yes, you should, but maybe later. You could watch a few comedy movies like Airplane and Ace Ventura, too.
Michael rooker is the actor who plays yondu he's played villains in other films. He was in a film called cliffhanger , Mississippi burning and a bunch of other films
Personally I remember him from "Slither" and the first season of The Walking Dead
He's definitely a seasoned actor that has been around for quite a while. But the thing MOST people know him for these days before the Yondu role, was as Merle Dickson in The Walking Dead
@@HBKCommish yeah I've heard he was in that but believe it or not I've never watched TWD lol besides a few clips so I didn't know he was on there.
Bradley Cooper is Rocket, Josh Brolin is Thanos & that’s Michael Rooker who plays Yondu, he was in the first season of Walking Dead too. and yes to Matrix & Footloose
Yes, I cry EVERY TIME, me, a grown man!! Yes to The Matrix 1000%
Yes squared to watching Footloose. The original, not the lousy remake.
Glad you enjoyed a sci-fi movie. I think the point in reacting is to get outside your box and see things you normally wouldn't.
Obscure is correct. I’m a comic reader and I did not know who Rocket Raccoon was until Marvel VS Capcom 3. There were several characters my friend and I couldn’t place so we looked them up and next thing you know Rocket becomes my favorite comic character ever
He IS a pretty awesome character.
James Gunn is the greatest superhero movie director of all time. He can bring the action, laughs, and cries all at the same time.
I watched you're reaction to this movie and the 2nd. You really need to do one for the holiday special and then guardians 3. The story of this team is absolutely amazing
Groot: “Famil- umm… I mean, I am Groot!”
The entire Guardians arc is epic.
4:15 - Fun fact, roughly a third of men, when faced with their imminent death, still cry out for their mothers.
The soundtrack made me love this movie. I love 70's music.
aw i love this!!
love this one the most out of this group also We are Groot
Another awesome reaction! On your poll , yes to Footloose, yes to the Matrix!! Classic movies!! Both films rank among top 10 of their decades.
Groot is not a tree! WE are Groot!
I think that's what I liked best about this movie.. it's just a bunch of random different characters making the best team and bonding over friendship!
@@CristyReacts Agreed. It has a more personal feel to their bonding...more like a family....than say the "work buddies" like AVENGERS. Glad you are enjoying the journey!
Idk If someone has mentioned it. Groot died that baby it’s his child.
The guy playing Yondu played Merle in Walking Dead (Daryl's brother) he was in Tombstone, he's been in a lot of stuff.
Josh brolin is the actor who voiced thanos
When you mentioned Yondu's beautiful blue skin tone I was just thinking the same thing about your eyes. Yes I would recommend that you watch Footloose. The original with Kevin Bacon. The remake is good also but you should start with the original. Thank you for allowing all of us to join you while you react to these movies.
Thanks for watching Robert! And for the compliment ;)
Thanos' actor is Josh Brolin, from Goonies. (And No Country for Old Men.....and True Grit.)
"I think this is my favorite movie in the MCU."
"Oh yeah? Without a spoiler, tell me why."
"Without a _spoiler?_ 🤔'I am Groot.'"
14:22 never realized after watching this many times and watching countless reactions that Rocket was in this scene….lol
As far as I am concerned there is nothing wrong about crying for a tree or plants they are living beings just like you or all of us and it also means you have a good heart and feelings💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍
right!! im with you!
thanos and hulk are done using mocap
aka the actor wears a suit filled with dots and they transform their acting mixed with cgi
it's also how a lot of video games are now made, it's not just voice actors it's people acting in mocap suits transferred
and yes, they are all in the comics
The Matrix is essential 🖤🌹🖤🧛
Oops Part II 😁 I'M 61 and I cried also I'm the beginning and from Groot. Dang you writers and Director. 🕊️☮️
Oh, 2 and 3 will make you cry A LOT
6:05 "Should I watch _The Matrix?"_
😯Oh!
[didn't scroll down far enough initially to set that someone else already told you the first part]
You're still right to mourn Groot; he did in fact die protecting the rest of the Guardians during the crash.
