For a non-factory made Jazzmaster, the #1 issue is with the tremolo placement. It's almost impossible to do it right without a special template, and it can catch the sides of the cavity with the bottom plate. Same fix: you will have to remove wood from the sides / front of the trem routing.
well, if you squish the loop ends of the springs you effectively ruin the possibility of adjusting spring tension on these trems... you have to be able to move them up or down a notch in order to adjust tension to taste, stability, adjust for spring wear etc...
thanks for confirming that the springs come off. mine did when changing strings for the first time on my unit haha. I'll be sure to have some pliars handy next time.
Also a less known issue with a Mustang: sometimes finish in the tremolo routing is too thick and the tremolo posts touch it (notchy trem movement / knocking noise). The remedy to this is to remove the finish from the bottom of the cavity.
I use 10 thru 52 gauge skinny top heavy bottom ernie ball strings. Should I keep the 10 side spring on the first notch and lower the bass side spring or should both springs be on the same notch
Which system is smoother to operate and has the largest range for diving? The Jazz Master type seems easier to adjust without having to remove the unit and has greater range of adjustment with the spring.
I think "smoother to operate" and "largest range" are sort of the opposite things. The best tremolo on the market is a Vegatrem. Between these two I prefer the stang trem.
@@Headwyres Yeah, thats why I was curious. I'm interested in getting a Jag-Stang, but they've gone up in price eo much. I was hoping to find a similar guitar at a lower price
hey i heard that if you move the spring you cant move the whammy bar up or moving it up doesnt stay in tune is this true cause i need it to work well both ways if you can tell me a way to keep it moving both ways and stay in tune i would greatly appreciate it
@@duotonguitars is the upper notch the one thats preset or the one mentioned in the video edit:would it help to put like graphite on the nut and stretch the strings cuz i heard thats a way to help
@@duotonguitars oooooooh haha okay 👌 I like your take on the jag stang... you wouldn't be interested in sending me one for my first review on you tube would you?
I bent mine so that it was at a better angle. put the short end in a vice or small hole somewhere ( i used a round hole in a metal step ladder) and slowly press the arm down to bend it. It takes some effort but was worth it

Great tips, Eugene
Very good tips!!! Thanks
thanks for the great tips!
Excellent video. Hadn't heard about the WDmusic trem before. Could you tell us more about it. Curious about quality and tuning stability.
The best tremolo on the market. Not as unnecessarily heavy as Mastery and equally smooth and reliable.

that also depends on your neck angle. I can't advise, you should probably try both.
Great tips, thank you :)

The upper notch = softer action, more movement up. You need to use at least 11s to have enough upward movement on 24"

How did you get the tremolo arm close to the body on the red guitar, my mustang has the same bridge
