I’m guessing the guys in bars all day didn’t start off that way … alcohol is a sneaky drug that takes over when your not keeping it in check . And once it takes hold it’s extremely hard to break the habit .

great vlog keis. So true about thee drinking and x pats. Its so scary how things can get out of control that's if you were ever in control of drinking. What you said is exactly what can and will happen. it starts at a few after work and ends up taking over your life. All you can think of is where is my next drink coming from and how do i pay for it. As you know keis i can say this because that was me 5 years ago and for me if i didn't change i would not be alive or in jail. Dont need to drink to have a great night.

I like your youthful exuberance to life here. Yes, the "Pattaya Flying Club" is real sadly. I was told on my first day at work here "booze and women will bring you undone". And true, it very nearly did. But I survived, somehow. I still like a few beers after knockoff, but I hold down a fulltime job as well and only go off reservation when guests are in town.

I speak as someone who only holidays there, however I can understand to some extent. A lot of people get addicted. On flip side, to see people jogging down beach road is often & the gyms are packed.
Regarding bars, on holiday I'll go in at may be 2PM until dinner, normally 7PM I guess & obviously back out.
On my first time went bar near Avani & drinks so cheap I'd be ashamed not to get a girl a drink. Admittedly do it loads it's daft, but a girl & mamazan in a bar is part & parcel, I'd be embarrassed not too,
For those two drinks as well as my own, it's costing me less than a pint I pay back in UK.
4 times now & each time at the end, I like to give to homeless people, tips to hotel cleaners & favourite bars / restaurants.
Living there I understand be different, depending on salary of course, but holiday wise I find I can't spend the spending money I bring.
Booked next a new 5 star hotel in centre Pattaya, near Robin Hood, close to Soi Buakhao. 2 weeks for £772 B&B in a deluxe double, it's awesome. Can't wait for Christmas & New Year

If you don't do anything in life in moderation it will come to bite you in later life. But for people on here to jump on the pious wagon slating the people that drink in the morning just tells me they have little lives of their own and have never been to Thailand or spent very little time there but still become keyboard warriors. If they are enjoying themselves leave them alone, not everyone walks around with a coat hanger in their mouth for a permanent smile and everyone has their own hang ups. For some it's an outlet for conversation they don't get alone in the place they stay, they may have had lives you couldn't have even dreamed of or jobs that have taken them across the globe. Before you judge people get to know them and walk a mile in their shoes.

I remember I went to an EDM event with a friend who had a heroin addiction (now dead sadly). He had the marks on his arm, and another person at the event who does MDMA, saw them and started talking trash about people who do heroin to me, saying he would use certain drugs but not that one.
When I use to gamble, I use to look down on people who did roulette machines, saying I would never go that far (despite losing way too much money on sports gambling).
My point is; people with addictions like to create a hierarchy in their mind to make themselves feel better about their vices. This is what this video is about. I would say you have an alcohol problem. You missed a flight because of alcohol.... You stream yourself drinking beer out of your shoe at 40 years old. Every social interaction you have is based around alcohol.
Like I use to do with gambling, and the random guy at the EDM event said about my friend with a heroin addiction. You make a story about other people to protect yourself and place yourself above them on the hierarchy to justify your actions. It's a good ego defence mechanism.
This is not meant to be an attack, but my observations as someone who use to be heavily addicted to gambling but been clean for 2 years. I also kicked the alcohol habit. Life has been a lot more stable since, also a lot less money worries.

While BKK definitely offers more, there’s plenty in town for sober (and mostly sober) people here. For me personally, the beach makes me happy and as long as I’m living outside of town (in Kasetsin Pratumnak currently) I’m loving everyday. I’m retired but everyone of my days is full. 🙏🏼

I am lucky that I already have family in Thailand, but they're out in the country area near Khan Kaen. I'm coming from Sacramento, CA and def looking forward to actually being able to afford living by the beach for once. Beachfront property is far from reasonably priced here in California, hell, anything is far beyond reasonable here anymore. $1500 MINIMUM for a crappy 1 bedroom apartment these days. Hence why I am leaving.

Good take and important discussion. Thailand has so much to offer which includes activities that over the long run may not be particularly good for long term physical or mental health. The upside is there are just so many opportunities to move outside of that "transactional" relationship you mentioned. There is still adventure awaiting those willing to push themselves away from their beer bar stool and move even slightly outside of their norm/comfort zone.

When I was visiting Pattaya often, I would never drink during the day. Yes, I would drink all night (no curfew in those pre-internet days), but that would mean getting to bed late, getting up late (middayish), having a long, lazy breakfast, followed by a swim. If I was up earlier, I might go to a beach further down the coast or some tourist spot. Or just walk around Pattaya, have a coffee, READ (books, papers, etc.) and in the old days go bowling. Even though Pattaya has always been intense, I always tried to slow down time to a very relaxing level. Perhaps most importantly, the transactional relationships have changed for the worse. Girls just see men as cash machines. In the old days, they'd be your girlfriend for as long as you wanted (yes, they were 'compensated'). Things were pretty chilled out; no pressure. I still love Pattaya, but it's very much a business town rather than a laid-back r'n'r town now.

I had a chat with you and Sam when he first came.
Had a chat on SOI Buakhao.
I'd just arrived a few days earlier and I was going to hard for someone my age .🎉😂.
Had the hangover from hell a few days later. And put on the brakes.
Chilling out on the islands riding bikes and meeting locals at the moment. Having a great time.

Yeah alcohol is a big problem there's a lot of expats that go down that Wormhole and they don't get out of it I've never found any use for alcohol myself but there's a lot of people that do and they have to spend their money on it it's one of those expenses that it seemed the very unnecessary I can see maybe smoking on a little bit of God green here in there but that's about all I would never go there foreign country and getting drunk and do all that stuff just not me I like to be aware of my surroundings cuz you grow up in the hood you never know what the hell's about to pop off next and specially if you're going to a foreign country you never know what's about to pop off

I well say if you stay in Pattaya ,you don’t have to go on the bar all the time there are so many place you can go and eat and drink to .but you have to not go the same place all time .when you eat .there is many others restaurants where many Thai’s go 😜😜

I drink everyday. But usually not hard to the wall. Extra calories to help me run twice a day. One at lunch after a morning run. 2-3 after the evening run with the training partners. I mostly run mountain trails and I love. Thai jungles so for me it’s Chiang Mai and koh Chang if it’s burn season. Koh Chang is more older kind of expats at white sands but Chiang Mai there are heaps of younger digital nomads. Nimman particularly with Old City mote of a chance to need the older - somewhat more negative lonely boys Lots of people to learn from. In HK we have a lot of suicide amongst expats atm in HK. I came across a body hanging couple of months back on a trail run at night - which was trauma.more so the police follow up. Keep it chill brass

Tell it like it is to the older generation. There is always something better to do than drinking & fornicating. One can lead to stupid decisions & an early death & the other you can experience great exotic diseases. Natural way of living & finding true love is the best way.

Hey on your suggestion I went to that Ramen spot Ozawa was pretty damn good!! However Chabuton in Terminal 21 was amazing as well, mostly because they had Ramen and sides i never seen before even the Ramen spots in Tokyo didn't have the little dishes that Chauton had. Just a Ramen FYI. Also as you seen before I made fun of a ton of those old white men with young chicks in a ton of your past videos but after meeting them all of them were super nice. it was fun listening to them complain about how expensive each of their home countries are and how Europe is going to hell in a handbasket haha

Very on point. Been here nearly a year. 20 years in Tokyo was enough big city for me. Got a job and a steady girl (not from a bar) and a place in the far end of Jomtien, nice and quiet. Those old guys sitting in the bars early really need a hobby, if you engage with them you're likely to hear their life story and how some (bar) girl took all their money🤣🤣🤣

Hey Keis! Another great video from you. I will be coming to Bangkok in August/September for 30 days. I will meet a lovely lady I met online and spend time with her. I haven't traveled in years and it will be my first trip to Thailand, so excited! I am not into sitting in a bar all day or crazy nightlife, but my girlfriend said she will take me to Khao San road one evening, haha. I want to visit some of the beautiful temples and other sights and as I am also an old skateboarder, I want to check out the Bangkok skatescene. I stopped skating almost 10 years ago but still love the culture. I will be staying in the Pin Klao area, close to where my girlfriend lives and works - It will be a trip of a lifetime!

Wise words mate. Been there n done that. How the night life gets you is by staying up a bit later n later then before you know it ,your going to bed at 7 in the morning and getting up around 4pm. get something too eat then back in the bars. Once your in that cycle its real hard to break. I did try to break the cycle but you could always hear the night life outside your hotel. However, if you have a little job and a mrs with you its a fantastic place to live. Cheap, hot and friendly. Jackpot.

Temptation is everywhere, the key is some kind of moderation. It’s tough in a place like Pattaya where there’s a bar/go go bar literally on every corner.

  • @vktravellog1242
    @vktravellog1242 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I personally avoid bars and if you have to buy drinks you need to know they are not friends. Bangkok has so many things to see and do you should never get bored. I personally dont like big cities but now being in Bangkok a week ago I get what you mean and ai love the city and the convenience of the transportation system. One down side is it seems to take almost an hour to get anywhere around the city.
