- Made possible by a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts and with the support of the College’s Staff and Program Development office, Remnants of Things Past is one of a three-part television series called Body and Spirit: A Survival Course in the Humanities. Completed in 1977, the series was based on the essays of Dr. C.P. Lee (Jacksonville University) and Jerry Dodge (Director of the Cummer Art Museum). In 1981-2, the series was expanded under a NEA program to provide video tapes and instructional guides to selected Florida community colleges and high schools.
This episode, which includes footage shot in Jacksonville and LaVilla (including a section focusing on the old Union Terminal, now the Prime Osbourn Convention Center, and Kingsley Plantation), reflects on things left behind by humanity from ancient times through today. It considers the nature of ruins and how they come into being, as well as how they have been depicted in art.
