    £300 today is the equivalent of £82 in 1981 according to the Bank of England inflation calculator. The cheapest FM CBs were around £70 then. You will remember multimodes being over £100. Cheapest amateur HGlF rig was £450 back then.

    • @m0ogy
      @m0ogy  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is exactly what I said, Amateur Radio HF sets were mega- money new back then, looking at old Ham Radio Today magazines, in reality transceivers have neve been so reasonably priced new, but every one cries if they cost more than £200 new. You speak sense Gordon.

    Hello, i wanted to ask , is this radio a am,fm,ssb radio that runs 10 and 12 meter? Ive yet to read the specs on this. Looking at this, it has a look of the bearcat 980 am, ssb. Thanks for your time with these. 73s, KX 420 Northern Indiana. As i listened to some more videos i hear its a 11 meter am,fm,ssb radio. Thanks again.

    Just bought one of these President George 2 Radios that's been expanded from Doug Knight complete with the digimike and i must say i am pleased with it so far - only slight gripe is that the NRC function on this radio isn't as good as the one on the Thunderpole TX but apart from that it's a very nice radio with a very impressive Echo Function built in so no need to buy separate echo boxes plus the radio reports are very favourable plus the menu system is very extensive as it covers most of the every day things that you might want to change on the radio and the receive is quite good as well as the modulation especially using the Digimike and as i used to use my CRT SS 9900 all my power mikes work straight on the President George 2 which is a bonus.

    Hi 👋
    £300 is about right when compared to the McKinley and other President radios. Is it better than the 7900 turbo? Would it be worth the extra money? Is probably subjective and down to the individual. 😆
    Many thanks for all the time going into the reviews! 👍

    • @m0ogy

      Thanks , well it's worth more (to me) to get a proper mic socket and not that God awful telephone plug, 7900V is on my list of wants, but it's been put back due to this currently.

      Oh yes, that company has "Actually" only got one in stock , I think the real price will become more realistic, I strongly recommend one, too many trying to full it down due to cost based on what I real is short supply and in some cases pure greed due to this.

    The George II looks like a decent radio. I wonder how it compares to the Grant II and if President will be bringing out a new 10/12m ham radio soon to replace the Lincoln II? When I have been looking at a lot of videos of the Thunderpole T-X HH and reading what a lot of people say in comments it seems like that is a great value radio but I hear a lot of people also wanting one that can do sideband - maybe that is also something for President to think about for the Randy 4? At the moment why would anyone buy the Randy III when it costs more than double the T-X? Makes no sense to me.

  • @simonh870
    @simonh870 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks like a great radio. My ony concern would be long term reliability, as I have had a couple of Qixiang made sets and had a few issues with them.

    • @m0ogy
      @m0ogy  ปีที่แล้ว

      As I said, I really have no idea long term, as you don't with a new car, sometimes you have to make a calculated decision and I hope these eleven videos have gone someway to do that. All I can say, I'm glad I got one

    • @rpcomms1
      @rpcomms1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope ,import tax,shipping from China ,wages ,r&d claw back,tooling costs ,approvals certification etc etc all gone up mate
      Plus you have long warranty,backup service and spares availability.
      Sure can buy a cheaper Anyclone but no support,no spares,no service manual so take higher risks in investment if it goes wrong ,plus finding a tech who can repair it,No issues with President.
      First release prices are always a little higher till settle down.

      You can buy a brand new Toyota Marc or a used 30 year old Rolls Royce for the same money, the latter looks the business but i'd be worried about it (unlike the Toyota), don't get me wrong HF radios are great but a lot have been ragged to death.I don't think it is over priced at all, going on my week of using it constantly.

      Maybe a vid showing am ssb noise floor with RF gain engaged Vs not engaged to show differences?
