Fry is a genius, and I love his viewpoints on our country. I'm reading his brilliant book "Stephen Fry in America"; next, I would like to view the whole series on video.
"What is the sexiest word that comes comes to your brain right now when you look into my eyes?" "Strabismus." Stephen Fry is a living legend--a genius.
5:50 i wonder if those guys know how great stephen and hugh were at improv. i mean, for guys working at second city to meet someone like stephen fry must be the most exciting thing ever!
Holy shit I am so fucking stoked. I have been trying to figure out for YEARS where I recognise the guy from Second City who Stephen gets hotdogs with (on the right). Just rewatching Veep and realised he is the head of Clovis in season 3, actor Tim Baltz. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit yeeesssssssss.
Like any country there is good and bad about it, as you'll see if you watch the entire series of Fry's travels. I'm Canadian, but I lived for 5 1/2 years of my childhood in Ann Arbor, MI, and I try to go to the United States at least once a year. Like Canada the US is a vast and highly diverse country, you can't really judge the whole country based on one's experiences in one part, but even a little time in say the Northeast or the Midwest will destroy some caricatures you may have had about it.
0:38 - not only have i been to that city whilst on a coast to coast tour, but I went to that club, dragged three others on the tour there after they thought they should get a taxi north (our hostel was 3 blocks from Buddy Guys) It was an amazing night, both in terms of music, but also atmosphere, hell I'm wearing the T-shirt from the club as I write this if you ever find urself in Chicago, you have to go to Legends
@@siobhankyle I completely missed your reply! I ended up figuring it out about a year after I wrote this comment - I realised he was in Veep and looked him up (my god that was satisfying), but thank you for the reply!
I'm sure it's mentioned in the comments but it's not the "Second City to New York", it's nickname comes from when the city was burned down and rebuilt.
Strabismus is a condition in which the eyes do not properly align with each other when looking at an object. (yes I googled it) now I can laugh with reference. ha...
I wish Stephen would do a travel show on the regular, he's so incredibly interesting to listen to!
Even though some crackhead just sawed the catalytic converter out of my car for the scrap metal 3 days ago....I still love my city.
It's called The Second City because the first Chicago burned down. The "Second to NY" thing came from a humorists' article in the 1950s.
This makes me proud to be a chicagoan, he stopped by here for a very long time compared to other places.

it's been 10 years, did you have a chance to watch it all?
"What is the sexiest word that comes comes to your brain right now when you look into my eyes?"
"Strabismus."
Stephen Fry is a living legend--a genius.
"I'm completely a homosexual when it comes to hot peppers" holy shit Stephen, I love you so much. LOL
Buddy Guy is a national living treasure and yet if he walked down the street in Chicago the average local wouldn't have a clue who he was.
I need to watch Stephen Fry in America, I live here but Id love to see how he reacts to this place
The whole series is on TH-cam.

I don't care how old he is and I don't care that he is gay.. I so want to marry this man. He is brilliant.

At 3:20 when he's at second city that's Tim Baltz. cool to see a vid of him from 10 years ago hes always super funny on Comedy Bang Bang
I want to see more of Stephen Fry at “The Second City”
Stephen has seen far more of my country than most Americans ever will.
He is a citizen actually

Such class!
A young Tim Baltz! Awesome!
Oh God, please, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me...
He explained the joke of Hugh Laurie.
GAH.
I love chicago.
@megarockman
lol, I never knew chicago was so cool, and I'm from there as well.
@Auroral3orealis I had to look up what strabismus is, and that's really funny.
Does anyone know the name of the guy that Stephen has the hot dogs with from Second City? (The one to Fry's left).
Tim Baltz!
Now I can finally sleep

Dang, now I regret being cooped up so much on campus while I was at U of C. Didn't really know what I missed...
Haha he still quotes being earnest even whilst doing comedy.
3:48 "my turn" apparently must include an Oscar Wilde quote :)
when stephen got on stage .that other guy was blown away lol
"Americans don't get irony"......Second City in Chicago has produced comedians for Saturday Night Live since 1975..
hugh and steve were BFF ever
8:00 probably a better view than the Empire State building because you don't have so many tall buildings in the way.
No, it's called the Windy City because it's windy. You'll hardly ever see a day on the lake shore when the wind isn't blowing.
The wind in Chicago can extract compulsory tears when it is cold enough. That kid was wrong haha
the oscars are made by... one mexican guy in an old house with a bucket of water...
what is that song buddy guy is playing in the club?
I'm sure it's mentioned in the comments but it's not the "Second City to New York", it's nickname comes from when the city was burned down and rebuilt.
Can someone PLEASE tell me the track/song that plays when the oscar is being made.....?? ANYONE ANYONE....PLeaseeeeee
so true
@Wyrmshadow Depends which side your looking out
3:12 - That's Copper Cabs dad from /watch?v=vPEYIymlmEg
this is what I have been talking about for decades ! all other brits show the worst neighbourhood and people , now look at the good ones ........
anyone got the song name for 8:07?
Ahh....Fry quoting Wilde. Nothing quite like it.
@Auroral3orealis I had to look it up and I still cracked up
City looks so beautiful from above until you land and start hearing gunshots
came to visit for the food, stayed because I got murdered.
Strabismus is a condition in which the eyes do not properly align with each other when looking at an object. (yes I googled it)

between sense and shite
what the hell is he talking about, Chicago is windy as fuck.
