Giant sunspot triggers severe geomagnetic storm - May 10, 2024

Active region 3664 has produced multiple Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections setting off a severe geomagnetic storm. Here is the sunspot region through our telescope with solar filter.

This sunspot cluster (country? continent?) is easily visible with the unaided eye when the Sun is behind a cloud bank that dims it enough to look at directly. I saw it driving yesterday morning through the car windshield.
