  • I ran four years in high school, four years in college, and twelve years as a professional. Somehow during those 20+ years I never actually raced the 100 meters! So I headed to my local track, put on some spikes, and timed myself over that distance. A new personal best!! :D

    Just being picky here, but handtiming yourself from a standing start isn’t the most accurate for a 100m because you are starting the time as you react. To be officially hand-timed, you’re supposed to add .24 seconds and then round up to the next tenth. Sorry lol, the meet administrator side of me got the best of me

    • @soapsalt2748
      @soapsalt2748 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    As a former wannabe middle distance runner speaking here(1:57 800m) to now training in college for the decathlon, I am super excited to see how you adapt to this. I watch this and I can hear my sprint coach yelling at me for my “soft, distance form” lol. My best 100 last season was 11.4 and I cant imagine that at your best, you wouldn’t be able to run faster than that. I’m 6’2 and I have a sizable stride, but I know once you learn how to best accelerate at the start, it finna be game over💯💯💯

    My understanding is the following: A 47 second 400 is equivalent to a 200 under 22 seconds as you subtract 3.5 seconds from your 400 (43.5/2). Following through on this logic a sub 22 second 200 should be equal to a sub 11 100 meters. When I was young my best sprint marks were 400 (49.5), 200 (22.8) and 100 (11.3). But just from watching Nick's sprint he would greatly benefit from practicing a block start and coming out at a 60 degree angle.

    Nick, Given your stated goal of cutting ~1.36 seconds from your 100 time, I believe there is some room for improvement in your start (start is far more critical for the 100 meter). Check out TH-cam videos of the start technique of Asafa Powell, Justin Gatlin, Christian Coleman, etc. Their front foot will actually be a bit behind the line and they do not come to a vertical running stance as quickly. That might get you under 12 seconds very quickly :)

I guess it helps that your a multi millionaire and a olympic champion. Just saying the common great local runners who work 40 hours a week and still put in 2 hours of work outs dont get a lot of praise or help. Most of the time it os hard to let the friggin security guard let me on the track. Have to do a lot of time trials on a abandon country road. im hoping for a national title sometimes you dont get many atta boys but still love to win every month in track meets. Been at it since 7. The American Bison spends its days roaming around its oval shaped territory and carefully grazing on Run Gum. Throughout the years, the American Bison has learned to “be prepared” and “do a good turn daily” in case if a predatory David Rudisha arrives. At that moment, more Run Gum consumption will occur for all the Bison and only the strongest Bison consuming the strongest Run Gum may survive.

    Hello Nick! What do you mean the strenght is more important than speed to you? What strenght? Speed endurance or Gym strenght? Did you use big weights in a gym when you were in your prime? Btw good luck to reach your new goals!

    • @nicksymmonds

      speed comes from strength! put in the miles, put in the reps, put in the gym time. THEN focus on speed.

      Take your 400pr, double it and add 4 seconds for max potential time.....te 4 second rule is for elite athlete with super speed endurance. For a well trained athlete you could add 8 seconds.
