    You never cease to amaze me shango ... great save … you are a wizard! In the yearly 80’s we used to spend New Year’s Eve in a cabin in the San Miguel’s. The only station we could get was 660 AM and “The Voice of the Navajo Nation”. The station played country music but the Dj’s did the show in “Navajo”. It went something like Navajo language ... Navajo … Navajo ... “Dwight Yaokam” … Navajo … Navajo … Navajo … “Reba MacEntire” and so on. Love the rhythm of the Navajo language.

    Finally got to watch your video as I had to work a 8 hour shift at work today!
    Nice hearing your voice too, shango......as always😀. Specially after a long tiring day I’ve had & it’s good to see these old radios in working order too. 👍🏻

    I'm from the UK and absolutely fascinated with your TV and radio salvage/repair/whatever videos. I love seeing this old tech, especially after all these years. I haven't a clue about electronics repair myself so this is just pure self indulgence on my part! Great stuff.

    *Fun factor finding::::::*
    Crosley had at one time the largest Radio Transmitter in the world boasting some 500,000 watts
    In 1934 Crosley put a 500-kilowatt transmitter on the air, making WLW the station with the world's most powerful radio transmitter for the next five years. The station had dual cooling ponds/fountains gracing the transmitter buildings front lawn.
    Crosley also made the first refrigerator with shelves in the door aptly named The Shelvador, oh yeah they made a car as well, powered by a not so wonderful engine made from sheet metal.
    A fallen icon in American industry, the name remain the same only to be "rebadged" onto some product loosely associated with the former company.
    Great repair Shango066

    Still have my RCA AA5 my parents bought me in 1959. It brought me through the whole rock and roll era.........Someday, I'l check the couplate, it will distort at full volume. Maybe when you retire, you can rebuild IF Cans with SMD! Good presentation on checking filament voltages on series strung sets....

    I *never* get sick of watching those AA5 repair videos!! Granted, if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all--but there are some slight differences between manufacturers. It's my understanding that the generic AA5 circuit was patented and owned by RCA--and licensed to other electronics companies for decades.

    Just a note of thanks, after watching numerous videos by you and others involving repair of old radio's, I made my first attempt on a fairly old (relatively) 1988 GE Nostalgia radio that was stored away in my 93 year old mom's closet, we were cleaning out to sell her house, she recently went into a nursing home. So I opened her up, all transistor, of course, the Caps were good brand name Japanese but the two large 1000uf 16 volt caps were a bit swollen, and the radio had a lot of hum. So I replaced them with what I had, two 1500uf 16 volt US made caps, the light for the dial was burned out, it was wired directly into the radio, no socket, so I cut the wires, put a 300 Ohm resistor on the 5.5 volt line and added an amber LED. Put the unit back together and NO HUM, the light looks exactly right compared to a known working unit of the same time. So now my wife had a nice radio to listen to her morning AM shows, something she has been wanting for a long time. I tried the FM out (we have no local FM radio here) using a little FM transmitter I built from a kit a few years back for that purpose, it is clear as a bell, but alas it is only MONO but it will work nicely come Christmas when I play MP3's over the transmitter that seems powerful enough to furnish the whole house with nice FM Stereo on any and all FM radios in the house.

    Oh wow, used to listen to "K-Tin" when I lived in Arizona. Always looked forward to picking it up as I drove west,as a sign of "You're nearing home", Flagstaff is not far, and then south to Prescott. (later, Glendale).
    Kentucky is nice, much better fishing, MUCH greener, but I still have dreams of of Arizona.

      Strangely and coincidentally I'm reading this comment and watching this recommended video merely hours after getting an old Orion CRT TV down from my attic for use with my old games systems. I believe the TV dates back to the very late 90s. Going around the back of the TV now I see - "made in the E.C." and a model number which is "TV450BTX". I'm the UK. As you were, gentlemen...
      I'll give the TV a Google but would be interested where its origins lay from that era!

      Had an "old" Crosley fridge in the hangar. Stupidly reliable. That thing soaked up 40+ years of Arizona heat, and when I left, was still chugging merrily along. It was pretty sandblasted, but it'd still chill a case of Coors.

    The extensive use of yellow wires may be the result of a wiring job to replace rotted rubber wires. Yellow may have been the only color on hand in the technician's stock. I had to do a complete rewire job on my '46 Zenith console back in the 70s and it was a tedious but rewarding job.

    I would like to say a big hello from myself and my husband and we are all the way down south in Melbourne Australia. Firstly I myself would like to say that I have no electrical knowledge or anything yet since hubby introduced me to your channel I have grown eager to learn about electronics and am starting off from the really basics and before even touching a live wire I'm studying the ohms rule of thumb and I'm eager as a beaver. I love your humour and especially your kitty kat star he is just gorgeous. I watch it videos even though I don't understand most of the amazing work you achieve I cannot get enough and poor hubby has to then spend hours explaining answers to my million questions and attempted understanding of outcomes hehehe but mainly both of us are spreading the word the Shango is the way to go and also we love you... Any advice about similar restoration and repair of radios etc called "Glasslinger"?? Love y'all work n if possible wIsh to get details to send a gift of something vintage and electrical your way???

  • @margaqrt

    I wonder if this was filmed earlier. I thought I heard reports of snow totals and a reference to Christmas. Usually, though, Shango releases new content shortly after it was filmed.
    The video quality of the JVC isn't that bad...I'd definitely still keep the camcorder around, especially if it has a built in HD. It's amazing what useful and perfectly usable CE people toss or drop off at Bestbuy or other e-waste facilities.
    It always bothers me that perfectly useful CE gets melted down and shipped to China. But that's the American culture of disposability; a throw away world.
    Sure, if it's junk and has no reasonable use, yeah, I'm all for recycling. But I prefer reuse if possible.
    If this was recently recorded, thanks Shango for demonstrating re-use rather than discard.

    Whats meant by "D X" you speak of at 50 seconds into the video? I always thought it was a term used bw scanner operators meaning,discovering,looking and listening to stations not known to be in your imediate area that generally now one else knew were "findable"

    • @chetpomeroy1399
      @chetpomeroy1399 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @ss boot--"DX" means listening to distant radio stations. It's a good way of finding out how sensitive your radio is.

    • @garp32
      @garp32 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many peoole universally use the term DX for "Long Distance".... as the ionosphere at night time works like a gigantic reflector bouncing the longer radio waves sometimes thousands of miles from their origin. Also why many AM stations are required to decrease wattage at night to keep from obliterating local stations sharing the same frequency.
