It's actually not. If you look at 0:40 Hoya already has his hand up, while holding up a hand to his mouth to act as a microphone. These type of videos (where they put their hands up) they would usually send these to music show producers and stuff, so when their comeback or stage comes up, the camera men and producers would know where they should pan the cameras. Some practice videos, the members even have name tags on them XD

no they put their hand up so when they practice on tv shows, the camera people know who is singing and who to follow.so whoever is singing their solo puts their hand up so the camera man will know to focus on them.
My theory: they do it just in case, because in a real performance the one who sings that part must be noticed. So, in practices they raise they're hand to prove if they are actually been noticed c:

They always used like a stack of CDs or a water bottle to symbolize the edge of the stage, but obviously they couldn't find anything better for this video XD
