Considering this came out in China during 1994, it sounds so modern. Call me ignorant, but this is amazing. Other than the Chinese being sung, this could come from any country.
Cui Jian is my favourite Chinese artist. He's a mastermind revolutionary artist, and even though I myself don't speak Chinese, I can just feel- it's like you can just feel the cries of rhe angry and oppressed subculture coming through in his music, you know?

I completely agree with ya fam.. Most of Chinas music popular is pop that sounds pretty much non-original and non-Chinese even.. Attempting to do western music without listening and understanding it first.. However some of these poppy songs especially the old ones, will never leave your ear once heard.. But you can never go wrong with Cui Jian.. His new album is weird and jazzy, some blues and country elements with some tango-y , waltzy acid-jazz.. idk I can't explain it... His new style is definitely an acquired taste

He represents the deep in side culture of China of the 1980s. it is not entertainment but art. He is the spirit of Beijing' innovative culture, inspired many young musicians and artists.
yep. thats what this music abt, cui jian have expericed all type of music even electric, hiphop,funk. but more than that,espcically in a communist country, a Master poet, caustic social critic and intrepid, guiding spirit of the counterculture generation. i can give cui jian all those names which western use to descrbe bob dylan. cui definetly deserve those

@AllieMP89 at least 5-8 millions Korea living in China over many hundreds years. From history archive, one branch of royal family Shang Dynasty immigrated to Korea Penisula over 2500 years ago, these are believed to broadcast China culture to this place first time.
I could even give credit to Cuijian's Korean descent for his rhythmic talent. Korean is also better in dance music comparatively to China. But that's all. Cuijian is a pure Chinese rock artist in every possible way. And I don't know about Korean rock...
