Eating & Exercise: This is 70-Years-Strong

  • In today’s video you will be joining me with two of my favorite pastimes: Working out (the last ten minutes of it) and cooking & eating in the kitchen. At the youthful age of 70, exercise is just as essential to my well being as eating a healthy diet. It really goes hand in hand and I do believe exercise and eating a plant based diet are the reasons why I can still do the things that I could do when I was in my twenties and thirties.
    Exercise is essential in having a strong body, no matter what your age, and it becomes even more important when going through the life transition of Menopause. Personally, I have found exercise to be an excellent way to manage my weight, have optimal heart health and most importantly strong muscles which have attributed to good bone health. That’s why I incorporate strength and resistance training into my daily workout routines.
    Additionally, feeding the body well is a “must.” I do this by incorporating a plant based diet as part of my ageless lifestyle. It’s been working great for me for the past three decades. Today’s menu consist of roasted beets with garlic, mixed salad with red cabbage, leafy greens and avocado, dressed in a home made salad dressing of lemon juice, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, white wine vinegar and olive oil. Leftover curry rice, sautéed with shiitake mushrooms, onion and garlic and a side of black beans completes this plant based meal. I love beets, I eat them roasted, put them in salads and juice them with celery and spinach. If this is your first time incorporating them into your diet do not be alarmed when your urine comes out a little red in color. It’s just the richness of this highly anti-oxidant vegetable that’s been kissing every cell of your body as it makes it’s way out 😁

    Dear Pauline, I have been vegan for 4 years now. Last year, I met a woman in her late 70s who had been vegan for 20 years, vegetarian for 30 years before that. She was the most spry woman of her age I have ever met and she told me she had no joint/physical pain at all. Takes no supplements either. Now, after finding your channel I am even more convinced that being plant-based is the way to go. You are such an inspiration and I hope to be as healthy and happy as you in 50 years!     Look at all the great comments from people you are motivating and inspiring! You are certainly doing that for me. I just had my 60th birthday and am determined to be as young and vibrant as you are in 10 years. I do have a question for you... do you know about how many grams of protein you eat per day? I've tried researching on the internet and the answers vary so much, I don't know who to believe. But you are the proof in the pudding and your answer holds more weight for me than any of the 'studies'. Thanks so much for all you do!

      Thanks so very, very much Barbara. To be honest, I don’t measure or think about the grams of protein I’m consuming. It’s like making a favorite meal: ya add a little bit of this & a pinch of that, stir & put it in the oven 😁.
      My protein shake is great I know & the foods that I consume: beans, quinoa, leafy green veggies, etc., handle the other load of the protein boat 😁. Please don’t drive yourself crazy, just follow your inner intuition, along with consuming the protein powder & I’m certain you’ll be fine.

    Hello stunning lady! I loved seeing your feed from this day. I love everything you ate, including rice and beans is the basis of the most traditional dish here in Brazil. I love garlic and onions, you seasoned the salad just like I learned it from my mum but sometimes we substitute mapple syrup for honey because it is not so easy to find in markets here, as well as the Shitake that I eat more in Asian restaurants. But avocado is my life, I have 3 avocado trees at home. Thank you for always sharing your radiant glow with us, have a great week

    Hi ~ I just came across this video and I’m jazzed! I’m only about 3 minutes into it and just had to say, I L.O.V.E. what I’m seeing! I’m 65 and not as strong or healthy as I’d like to be. I get started and do ok for awhile, then slack off and my arms get all scrawny again. You are such an inspiration and I plan on moving more and eating better.       A million, zillion thanks Naima AND you’re going to live a long time… WHY? Because that’s the next video that I’m working on: Exercise & Menopause!
      I dealt with menopause one day at a time 😁. The only issue I had were the “sweats.” But I truly believe exercising helped me get through that transition, while at the same time helped me to keep a grip on my weight. That video should be out sometime next week so please stay tune AND if you have any questions before then PLEASE let me know & maybe I’ll be able to answer them in the video.       I can't wait for the video on menopause, thank you in advance. My questions are : are there some foods or things that you can do to minimize the hot flashes, dryness downstairs, brain fog, weight gain, low libido etc? Do these symptoms disappear at some point as years go by? What are your views on HRT? Gal, as you can tell the struggle is real. I am turning 51 in a few weeks 😂
