Starlings making the shape of a bird

- After months of chasing these birds around Lough Ennell, Co. Westmeath. James Crombie and I captured a unique display. His shot made front cover of the Irish Times and this is the video of the murmuration behind that iconic photograph.
I love how the shutter goes wild the second the photographer realizes what just happens :D

I walk at Lough Ennell most days since covid, so jealous I missed this! Makes you wonder how many of these moments pass us by each day. Murmurations are like a muse chorus when composing on piano.

PURE COIINCIDENCE. There's no way each individual bird would be able to know what the larger picture looks like while in formation, if they did this consistently and repeatedly then maybe there's something to it. Like looking at clouds and seeing something you recognize.

Right at about 9.5-10 seconds, the bird even has a beak if you pause the video. It looks like a hawk gliding in for a landing... :-)
Thank you. I slowed it down to .25 speed and starting at 22 seconds I saw it start as almost like a Phoenix, then morph into a Falcon, then Hawk, then a Dove, and finally a Duck!! So cool. Again thank you for the tip!!

They may be recreating other shapes according to what they see...Cloud is one of the examples.

You do understand, dont you, that the pattern, or shaoe' that resembles a burd is only visible from this camera lens perspective..... move 100 meters to another viewpoint, and there is no 'burd' shape. Therefore this is not starlings making bird shapes, its the viewer seeing pattern from perspective.
