As an Avs fan, maximum respect for the way he showed up in the playoffs. Outside of Game 2, which was a freakish thing to see, Vasi played as advertised and gave us nothing. Class act.
Spot on Vasy! Consistency is the key for being among the best in a 100 year old league. Brodeur, Roy, Hasek, Belfour, Lundqvist, Luongo, Fleury were all the absolute top from late 90s over two decades
He has 2 cups one vezina? Whats his gaa past few seasons in post season close to 4 lmao. Hes costing the lightining this series against the leafs by himself hes beenbrutal. Hes no way near roy broduer belfour fuhr hasek ect they dont choke like this guy does in the playoffs
After Vasi lost to Colorado and finished the handshakes, he was so pissed as he went into his dressing room he threw his glove and yelled an expletive. They were talking to the #1 guy who hates to lose.
You guys should do a dinner / event where all the great goalies get together and talk! Like Roy, Brodeur, Vassy, Flower, etc. I would watch the heck outta that!
Ken Dryden won 6 Stanley Cups over the course of a ten year career. Arguably the most successful goalie of all time. His regular season stats were 258 wins 57 losses 74 ties. 2.24 GAA and .922 SV%.. His Playoff record was 80 wins and 32 losses. 2.41 GAA and .915 SV%.
Dryden was a beast, but hard to compare generations. They weren't really athletes back then. I've watched hockey since 77, and I think of Hasek, Fuhr types, and if Pelle hadn't made that fateful mistake....
Vasy is such a legend. 6:28 Great question Elliotte, now that they've been eliminated from first round and the unbelievable ways they lost especially games 3 and 4...and 6...all in OT...at home ice...
This guy literally sits in net when we're losing no matter if it's close of a blowout, Vasy hates to lose and I love watching him sit there no matter the situation
got to agree with his ideas on active goalies and i love how humble he is a true professional. but if i had to say best goalie of all time never played in the NHL, he became a goalie coach after the cold war in the nhl but never played. Vladislav Tretiak.
@@jmoriarty8000 The Soviet Union humiliated NA teams on a regular basis, wether it was against a national team or NHL team, the soviets were better. Tretiak was an amazing goalie, he just happenned to retire before russians were allowed to leave for the NHL
Hasek gets credit for carrying bad Sabres teams but nobody seems to remember that neither Montreal team was supposed to win the Cup. The first one he took the starting job and led them to a cup and conn smythe at 20 and the second cup montreal set a record with 10 OT wins. Not only is he a clutch winner he paved the way for a new goaltending style.
Impressive but to me Hasek came to the league 25 years old, a new culture, new language etc. Winning Vezina 6 times, playing for Buffalo while Roy and Brodeur in their prime playing for dynasties. Add 2 Hart and 2 Lester B. Pearson and another 4 nominations. Lowest GAA of all in playoffs since the 1950s and highest sv% of all time. His two best sv% playoffs tops Roy and Brodeurs best years. Also carrying his country to olympic gold medal. You can argue for Roy and Brodeur they are for sure all time greats but Hasek was slightly better.
@@MuirGreg Not supposed to win but Montreal 1986 had all time greats like Chelios and Robinson, future hall of famers like Carbonneau and Gainey. You can also add 1 P/PG players like Naslund and Smith. Claude Lemieux was great aswell. Buffalo 1999 had no hall of famers, their best offensive players were Zhitnik and Woolley, they both produced 0.71 Points per game. 43 players had a better % that playoff. 1993 was an upset for sure they had talented guys like Damphousse, Desjardins & Leclair. 3 times Stanley cup winner Mike Keane. P/PG players like Muller & Bellows and leaders like Carbonneau and Savard.
It's tricky to compare eras ranging from when there were three good players per team using wood sticks, to entire rosters able to score using top notch technology. My point is, today, winning 2-3 Cups is equivalent to 6-7 from eras past.
Roy, Hasek, Brodeur. Price, Vasi, Henrik. Price at his peak might be equal to Hasek considering the fact that he almost Goalied two cup runs with a terrible team.
Leagues best goalie. It’s not really debatable. I hear a lot about that guy in New York which makes sense cause it’s not like they have cups to talk about.
Just like there is a "before Babe Ruth and after Babe Ruth" time in baseball, there is also "before Patrick Roy and after Patrick Roy" in hockey. Roy is the all time GOAT. Much respect to Vasy, great instincts, flashy glove. He is very good......but his 5 hole is big enough to drive a zamboni through.
Based on consistency alone, Brodeur's gotta be on the list for best goalie. Then you add 3 Stanley cups, and records for most wins and most shutouts, and you have the greatest goalie... which is still Brodeur.
Best ever is such a relative term I fid really enjoy hearing vasy speak however. If love to hear interviews with other NHL goalies. I feel we font get to hear them as often
