why powered by petrol outboards? why not diesel powered with a shaft drive far cheaper to run n maintain? some American boats are powered by 4 Huge outboards God know what they cost to run n they are not cheap to buy either
polygamous1 Sozou well these boats are not designed to have an inboard motor. Also the reason some boats have 4-5 motor on the back is because they are most likely sport fisherman and need to get to their spot very fast and a diesel just won't cut it
Outboards: Their main advantage is the tilt. You can trim for correct thrust angle which makes them faster. You can make your draft shallower and have less fouling. They can be tilted completely out of the water which means you can do all kinds of great things like inspect the prop, clear a fouled prop, change a prop, and prevent barnacles while parked. Maintenance is easier because everything is out in the open. Replacement is a snap, and they cost less. They also leave more room under the deck for storage or cabins. The downsides are they burn slightly more fuel, you have to look at them, and they can get in the way. For the yacht owner/pleasure cruiser, inboards offer more range and luxury. For the fisherman, outboards get him more time at the fishing grounds.
