Nice work. For retrieval, I'd urge use of MS Query instead for a few reasons: [1] It's already part of XL. No addins. No VBA [2] No need to guess how many rows will be returned. [3] No formulas to slow things down. Like your solution, MS Query can be parameter based and refreshed based on triggers including events such as workbook open - again - without VBA.
Hello! I would like to ask do you know how to connect a system that inputs data directly to Excel? if the user inputs a data it directly goes to Excel.. Thank you in for the answer :)
Could you please kindly explain how I can use these sql queries in a form in Excel. This form should be able to retrieve and update data in sql server. How can I go about this please? Thanks
There is already a decent add-in for Excel which helps to connect with SQL Server www.devart.com/excel-addins/sql-server.html It will help you quickly and easily load data from SQL Server or SQL Azure to Excel, instantly refresh data in an Excel workbook from the database, edit these data, and save them back to SQL Server. It enables you to work with SQL Server data like with usual Excel worksheets
the video is good but have few question and maybe you could do more videos about: 1- how did you create the function that gets triggered? 2- what is the correct syntax in excel 2010 to connect directly to SQL 3- what if we don't want to use Northwind DB, i only have SQL express and how do i connect? thank you
Ailene, Could you please review the link, Hope, you get the answer for your question, www.excel-sql-server.com/excel-sql-server-import-export-using-vba.htm
Any chance I could contact you by email as well? I also have a few questions on a project that is similar to your video and it would be very helpful for me using your method.

Nice tool! It really depends who will be using Excel to update SQL and whether it is a one-time requirement or an ongoing requirement. There are some great options for the one time stuff, especially if you as the IT person is going to load the data yourself. However with some programming work, one can create a very user-friendly and robust Excel workbook that can indeed be used repeatedly by users to not only import data into SQL tables (whether it is SQL Server, MySQL etc. does not matter).
Nice work.
