I've driven past this house many times, wondering what the inside looks like with its 'funnel' shaped roof as you see it from the road. How beautiful!
Me too! Ive always thought “the inside of this house has got to be amazing” that ceiling as you drive by always catches your eye

Me four... honestly at first glance i didn't like those clearstory windows, they seemed too big and unproportional from the street view. Little did i know its my favourite architects house (Greg) that ive been following on every social media SAOTA has.

A lot of people will overlook the insane creativity and engineering that went into the design of that roof. The fact that you can see so much of nature through the roof and the upper section of the wall, yet still manage how the light falls in without affecting the ambience and temperature is amazing. I would have loved to have been involved in the shoot just to ask how on earth they even came up with this.
I appreciate the comment about the engineering, I work in the structural firm responsible for it. Indeed these things aren't simple by any means. I will relay the complement.
Cape Town is probably my favorite city in the world when it comes to access to nature, and they managed to get views of some of its best parts through this roof and window design. It really is the perfect house to me.

What he said about having a different experience of the surroundings because of being able to look through the roof also applies to driving an open-top car, or riding a motorbike, I'm sure, in a mountainous area. It's a totally different experience, as if you're seeing those surroundings for the first time. 😍
As an African who watches a lot of The Local Project (A TH-cam Channel that features domestic Architecture in Australia & New Zealand) I am astonished that there exists such high quality experiential residential architecture in my home continent. This is Marvellous! Beautiful House. I hope to see more of such in our continent.

@@HarrisonKeli haha, neither am i. I just walk different paths in different areas I'm used to and you catch a glimpse of a stunning courtyard, or backyard..maybe an interesting roofline. Even just "basic" homes round my township have such interesting features. But you have to take your time catch a different perspective
@@potatopotatoeOGI'm not from South Africa neither have I ever been there, furthermore, I take great interest in architecture and consequently I have friends who happen to be architects, I've shared this video with them and they are of the view thst SA is a different market and as a result, they allow architects to explore and experiment with design unlike in our home country.

I think this might be the perfect house in the world apart from mine but mine is more like a zoo, then I also thought of buying that old little green house when You look left coming out of the Pizza restaurant in Kloof as a retirement place but I probably could only keep 10 cats there , Your house is now my favorite for retirement absolutely beautiful !

I really do LOVE that home. Who ever built it knew what they were doing; the ragged mountain just right outside of the back, the foliage, the sweeping city views. I love LA California's cliff homes with views, but the Kloof house with the mountain view so close and the land scaping, Oh my! 😊 Takes my breath away. 🤗🤗🤗
Everything you do is enhanced in a space like this. Every time of day. All weather conditions. They all provide a special moment. I can imagine even a stormy day, with the interior warmly lit, watching the table cloth roll off the mountain top... Such a ceaseless, perpetual, exquisite romance. My mind is just blown (it's almost philosophical by design). 🤯

I wanted to see more. Those LA, California cliff homes have nothing compared to that house's location. It has sweeping city views, like LA, but with that close up ragged mountain so close. My goodness! 🤗🤩🤗🤩

The narrator says he grew up in Mhlume a sugar estate in lowveld Swaziland a very hot place ...full of green forests I can concur the similiraties this house has with Mhlume very breathtaking...love both places Mhlume & Cape Town.

@@janiliebenberg4407 Yeah, a bunch of these houses are for sale on the market due to be located in the country with a world crime record. Electrical barb wires, fences, contracts with a few security companies are common.

I've seen this house. we were going to table mountain. And I looked at this house from the street for about five minutes. He's intriguing. But what's inside. It blows the brain. insane. fabulous.
I agree that the experience of being in nature or immersed in pleasant atmosphere is one of the most valuable things to have access to at home. Within a city its hard to do this well. The level of focus you had on that goal was really well placed in my opinion.

What I really like about this design is the way the house opens to the vistas without making it feel vulnerable to the environment. Too many homes that are open to the environment afford no sense of privacy. This house accomplishes privacy AND openness. Beautiful design!
