    We have some very helpful and friendly instructors for planes at our club, but the heli pilot I asked for help in learning to fly helis better just said to learn by flying. He even made some disparaging comments about using a simulator. Not all of us want to spend lots of time and money repairing a heli multiple times during that learning curve.
    As far as setting up the AS3X and SAFE on the new BNF, might check for a tutorial here on TH-cam. That's what I needed to do in learning all the nuances of setting up a stock receiver on a PNP airplane.

    I have to disagree with your comment on the better flyers not wanting to help.
    Been into rc helis for about 2 decades and have been in positions to offer some guidance for beginners.
    What I have observed happening more and more over the years is that beginners are not very receptive to suggestions and advice. I see beginners challenging the more experienced flyers on their approach with what they have seen on youtube/read on the web, etc. Sometimes, the 'teachings' they get from the web comes from flyers who may not have much experience either. Other times, they are taking instructions on how to run before they can even crawl.
    Eventually these wears out the willingness to help.
    I believe MOST experienced flyers are always ok to provide assistance to those who are willing to listen.

    Got one of these after being out of helicopters for 12+years. I flew it and thought it flew "ok". Definitely better than micro stuff from a decade ago. Then I got a Goosky S1.........world of difference. The S1 is cheaper and flys 2x better. I dont even fly the Infusion anymore.

    Nate, you did fine. I started out with the Blade 230 S RTF and used safe. Then when I got comfortable with that I moved to an OMPHOBBY M1 RTF version using 6G mode. 6G is the equivalent to SAFE used by other companies. GOOSKY sells S1 (smaller) and S2 (larger) with 6G modes RTF. I love these. I almost never went back to Blade after these. Better constructed.
    You got burned with a miss-wired Flywing fw450 Huey. I fly that now.
    Don't get discouraged. 6G Blade leveling mode in RTF is the way to go.

    I got into helicopters for a little while and can attest to the fact there is a huge learning curve. It's very challenging at first and at times quite frustrating but once you get it down, man they're a blast to fly. Now I fly mostly UMX planes because they are so much fun.

    I guess because this is a more advanced model you are expected to understand programming/binding. For me I don’t want the to fuss with set up. I agree they missed the mark at only offering it in bind and fly. For a few more bucks a RTF version should be offered. The next less expensive Blade model down is offered in RTF. Thanks for doing what you tow do.

    I hear you on the Bind & Setup for a heli. 2-years ago I did the Blade 230S and it was a challenge. I spent quite a bit time viewing TH-cam videos and finding ways to verify SAFE in the ground. Ultimately, I was successful and have flown it on & off...mainly in SAFE. Fortunately, I know my limits, and this will be the only heli that I'll probably own.

    Great video although, I disagree pretty strongly with your comments on the 3D helicopter community being gate-kept. I've recently started trying to learn 3D and have found tons of videos on how to do specific maneuvers and have found more than one entire video series on training programs to use when learning how to fly collective pitch/3D. Admittedly, the videos can be difficult to find as they are not always labeled what you would think that they should be but there is TONS of material out there on it. Also, I've yet to have anyone in person at my local flying field be anything other than super excited that I wanted to learn. Sorry to say but that is flat misinformation.
    It is hard, there are plenty of resources to learn if you truly want to or look at all.

  • @rogerhartzell544

    I know exactly what you’re saying. I’m not bad at finding helicopters to my radio now, but I didn’t have a clue when I first started I almost got out of the hobby because of it but I stayed with it took my time and read a lot and soon started to learn how to buy things, don’t get me wrong. I still have a lot to learn but I’m pretty good with the XK Models all collective pitches pretty good with now and just about ready to take my 600 Nitro out for a hover this spring but yes, it takes a lot of concentration., focus,and nerves. I’m not into all of the upside down flying just like to do a few tricks, and mostly cruise around with a helicopter. Thank you so much for being honest about being uncomfortable in flying helicopters I feel the same way at times.

      Your comment really means a lot to me, to know that I’m not the only one that’s ever felt this way. Considering buying something a little bigger to practice more on? 👍💯⚓️

    This heli does have SAFE and you should have set up a F-Mode switch for that when you set it up. I disagree with your love for RTF helicopters. It took time to learn to set up the transmitter, but you have much more control not using the RTF. Plus you can add expo, adjust dual rates that you can't with RTF.

    • @TheRcSaylors
      @TheRcSaylors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

  • @rcmanicmd
    @rcmanicmd 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    For those who refuse to fly anything but RTF, why are you even in the hobby?
    This hobby requires a fair amoint of mechanical and electrical knowledge, and the ability to figure things out. Our society has become so lazy...has to be instant gratification and no work for everything. I bet those who are saying RTF ONLY have never built a balsa kit, covered it. Set it up for flight, and then fly. Work yes...but immense gratification.

    • @TheRcSaylors
      @TheRcSaylors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Ouch! This is a pretty nasty, and extreme comment. There are a LOT of casual flyers too out there. Maybe time is more important for people, and they just want to fly! I don’t think anyone is being lazy, or shooting for instant gratification here. But we do live in a very different world than what existed 20 years ago, and that alone will change people in general. Do you get just as upset when someone googles something rather than going to the library to look it up? 😅⚓️

    • @TheRcSaylors
      @TheRcSaylors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’d like to add that I don’t disagree with what you are saying. Huge gratification building a kit! Let’s use me as an example though. I consider my kit building time to be equivalent to my TH-cam editing/ filming/ uploading time. I could say the same thing about anyone without a TH-cam channel that you are saying about someone who hasn’t built a kit before. If I can have a TH-cam channel (and work full time, be present A LOT with two young children, be a husband, manage owning a home, the list goes on..) then I truly believe anyone can do it. Almost at least.
      My point is, maybe people prioritize other things in life but still want to enjoy RC! Because of technology, that person CAN do that now! No shame at all in enjoying the hobby on different levels. Sadly, there are a lot of people that just can’t fathom that idea, which is why I talk about it often. Thanks for taking the time to have a mature conversation with me! 👍🙏💯⚓️

    • @rcmanicmd
      @rcmanicmd 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll respectively disagree with what your saying. If someone is not willing to put in the hard work that rc hobbies, and helicopters in particular require, then they should pick another hobby that can still be very fulfilling, but requires less dedication to perfection. These things are NOT toys. They are very capable of inflicting severe injury (even the small ones) if not set up properly and flown properly.
      To be quite frank, I think Horizon hobby has actually done a tremendous disservice to the hobby. There has been a very steady decline in participation with more advanced portions of the hobby because they are spoon feeding people with RTF. If you have a bad experience with their product, you quit the hobby instead of saying " I spent so much time building and learning ro fly, if I dont succeed at first, I'll fix it and keep going". Plus, when they provide RTF, there is no learning to set up things (aircraft, radio, etc) which is required if/when people go more advanced. They then get super frustrated and quit.
      Suppose you didn't have an rc you tube channel that was you livelihood. With the 2 failures you had with early RTF, and this mediocre experience with Blade 120, would you honestly continue to pursue?

    I have to disagree with you here, they give very specific instructions to set these up. It's not rocket science, it's following directions. Also there is a phone number you can call. The low voltage should have been screaming at you if set up right, this is in the instructions. The safe is probably on the button and it's a momentary "save yo butt" button. It's in the instructions. You would have to map it to a switch for it to always be on. This heli can be flown that way but it's not it's first priority, it's meant to do acro. I'm basing this on the instructions from the Infusion 180 which I'm going out on a limb to say they are pretty close. I guess you can learn to fly on this with the Safe feature but you would be better served to learn on a sim in acro. I would not consider this a beginner heli or a trainer. Beginner acro yes. Low mass, so low consequence and low cost when crashed. I agree with you on the proprietary connector BS, I wish they would just use xt30 for this size and be done with it.

      You can make your own converter cables, and he’s not into Helis. If you watch some of the videos out by guys flying these things upside down and in small places basically in front of themselves doing tic tocs and all those other moves, it’s no plane for sure, or quad. Forget line of sight on a quad, it looks essentially the same enough from any angle. And those main blades even in a small one like this, can cut one easily. The bigger ones can take your head off, with those main blades. Peace out.

    Nate, I really enjoy your videos; however, you missed the mark on this one. I agree that the battery is troubling. Not unlike the OMP M1, same issues. If you take the time to actually review the instructions, you will find that Blade in channel assign has assigned GER channel to “Flight Mode” (B) since the heli has no gear the flight controller is programmed with SAFE on the gear channel now assigned to Flight Mode. SAFE is active in Flight Mode 0 (Normal). Flight Mode 1 (Idle1) and Flight Mode 2 (Idle2) are full 3D. Now in setup you will see a p mix I > GER. This assigns SAFE to the bind “panic” button I. You just think it through using the monitor. AS3X is on in all three flight modes. Just like airplanes, be careful of props or rotors, in normal the swash will seek level if you tilt any axis; however, will stay tilted in Idle 1 & 2. However, swash Will return to level in Idle 1&2 when panic mode is activated. I have never not received help from the heli pilots here in Tennessee, and I am just returning to RC at age 70.

You would still need a charger, but Goosky and OMP are the only 2 TRUE out of the box RTF's I've ever seen. No adjustments needed. Bind the radio which takes less than 10 seconds, and you're ready to fly. All Carbon Fiber and Aluminum, with rock solid stability. They feel and fly like a MUCH larger finely tuned Heli.

    5:54.. "Or just already bound to a radio"..Ummm...How's that gonna work?? lol (VS RTF)
    Flipping switches willy nilly while in flight shows this isn't a true review by someone with knowledge of the product. Usually you guys have great videos, but this one let me down. I love my little Infusion 120, and have no issues with it bound to my NX-8.
    I think I may have already said much the same on this video before, but ran across it while surfing around.
    6:50-ish.. I honestly think flying the crazy 3-d is like playing guitar. We watch people do it, and maybe think someday, we might be able to do the same, but no, that's not the way it works. Some talents are unobtainable man. lol I can play the start of "Smoke on the water", and that's about the equivalent of hovering around and maybe doing a little scale type flying, with barely a grip on head in hovering. (That's about where I am!) lol
    I also think you either didn't properly set up your timer (Which should have been already done for you when you loaded the program for the heli) or maybe your volume's all the way down on your radio, but it shouldn't drop out of the sky like that without at the least a low voltage warning. Again, all things my radio does with the stock setup from the BNF menu in the radio itself.
    7:52. Yes, people want to see "nothing but success" and you trying to review this poor heli not knowing much at all about it isn't a fair shake by a country mile Nate.
    I always love your vids, and the great camera work to! But this one's a severe disappointment man.

    I will give blade this, that helicopter is freaking quiet. I don't know how they pulled that off, but that helicopter is easily quieter than the OMP hobby M1. I just wish that blade would actually play catchup with their flight controllers and get the TALY techology that makes the tail performance of the goosky and OMP hobby helis so good. Also why is blade still making these things with PLASTIC rotor head parts. C'mon, if goosky can produce metal rotor head parts then so can blade, this apple wannabe business practice of being technologically behind is getting old. • @nsbob70

    You're baiting fate, taking a heli up and randomly "throwing switches". Not a good way to do things Nate. A little disappointed honestly. Tail rotor looks like it has the 'Blade wobble' a little bit. Pretty gruesome low battery behavior! Guess you didn't set your battery alarm? I think maybe you're getting a little too much quantity, and maybe quality suffering a little bit. You need to spend more time with this heli and the radio and functions before you can do an honest review. I'm really interested in one of these as it's a great cross between the smaller mCPX BL2, and the little bit larger 120 S2, which I LOVE to fly around even though it's a 1 S, brushed model. This new heli seems to be a melding of the two, which I really like! Your review, however, hasn't made any impressions on me whether or not to get one. Take more time to familiarize yourself with things you're reviewing, and we, the viewers, will have a better understanding of the product and it's capabilities. Just FYI, I too am not the 'expert' heli pilot either! So looking for something stable and predictable (like the 120 s2) is important to me.
    Othe than that, loved the scale like realism of the Huey 'incident' at the start, and who's nightmare ISN'T is that a heli or plane would just "fly away"!?

    • @TheRcSaylors
      @TheRcSaylors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Nope! I was NOT randomly throwing switches, so do NOT accuse me of something that is false. I was very carefully switching positions one at a time, in a healthy altitude position while being Very Aware of what these switches could do!
      Moving on, I do plan to do a follow up, but this helicopter showed up at our door with no information or anything about 24 hours before it was being announced. I did the best I could with the very limited time frame I was given to “make it happen” and I AM giving my honest opinion of the entire thing! If someone in a similar experience level as me bought this thinking it would be like a BNF airplane (why shouldn’t a person think that) I guarantee they’d have a similar experience as mine, but would like crash thinking the helicopter had SAFE. This is the problem currently, and it’s obviously ruffling some feathers. 💯⚓️

      @@TheRcSaylors the second half of my statement isn't what I wanted you to focus on. Everyone's a critic, it was really just there to balance the first part.
      Why are you dogging the heli community? It's WAY more complicated than planes but because it is, there are more people walking you through it step by step then there are planes -which makes it boring an unviewed for allot.
      Planes are so easy people gloss over allot of the stuff the noobs no nothing about.
      I found the opposite of your statement true. There are far more heli buds out there than plane buds.

    Blade wants to charge a premium because they think they have a loyal following that will buy their overpriced products no matter what.
