- Cagiva is a continuation of Aermacchi. This story involves Harley Davidson, Ducati, Moto Morini, Husqvarna, Mini Moke, MV Agusta, Proton, Gevi, BMW & SWM. Motocross, Super Bikes & Moto GP were all on the calendar for the company.
Really informative, thanks John. Great to know that SWM are still making bikes at the original Aermacchi factory.
Glad you enjoyed it. I have since been told that it’s not the original factory. But near by.
Hey there.
I am Italian and the correct pronunciation is just like was written CAJiVA so the G is soft.
Not CAGHIVA but CAJIVA.
Btw cool video 👍.
Greetings from Italy then 👍
Thanks
@@johnsmotorcyclemania7039 you are welcome my friend 👍
I was going to say the same thing.
I started watching and had to go straight to the comments to see what people said about this. I remember reading in Dirt Bike (or maybe Dirt Rider) magazine "say CAH GEE VAH" (or something very close to that). Funny what sticks in your brain
Anch'io vengo dall'Italia e ti sbagli..
owned a 1984 Cagiva 125, no power valve. Made HP like a light switch.... Owned 3 cagiva 500's. They didn't have that problem. And a Moto Morini 501 Camel. A nice dual sport V twin. You don't see many V Twin dual sports.
Thanks,Enjoyed the story and humor. Been ridin since the 60s. Later from Texas.usa.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Yes, we need the full story with Husqvarna and all that
SWM is not made in the old factory on the lake Aermacchi it's made in the new factory BMW built when they took over Husqvarna in 2007
Thanks for the correction.
I’d love to have The Dakar Spec Elefant 900! That’s a sweet bike!
I have to thank you so much, drove a cagiva K7 and a mito evo 1 and never had a good Video about that brand
Be sure to share it around and get your friends to subscribe 😉
cagiva bike is heavily underrated i have 2 of them 1 of them is cucciolo 125 and the canyon 500 and i love them both but the electronic on their bike always have a problem
You never mentioned that they purchased CZ.
I didn't even know this. I did hours of research on them & never found that one. There tail was so hard to follow & even harder to put into a video 😅
@@johnsmotorcyclemania7039 Hi, a friend of mine worked as a Lawyer for the Czechoslovakian Gov at the time, and was part of a team that did all the legal work on the sale to Cagiva, cheers Rick
Bought a cagiva 500 desert racer brand new from a dealer in Wiltshire England in late 70s early 80s cant remember exactly. Was a great bike really fast but not fierce, suspension was a bit wishy washy broke 2 kickstart levers on it they were Micky mouse things dealer wouldn't replace them after the second one broke hadn't had the bike for six weeks at the time. Went practising at Elsworth Cambridgeshire on route a mate rang us and said Dave Thorpe was there testing we thought he was lying, got to the park ferme no big motorhome with Dave Thorpe written all over it so we called him a lying barstuard. Turned out he was there in a Ford P100 pickup with Dickie dye he was riding a kx 500, came walking over checking the bike out said they were really fast as he had raced against them in Europe Great champion and really down to earth guy.
Very cool.
Interesting history. More interesting is KTM's recent buying into MV Agusta. Do they drag out the Cagiva brand again? Probably not since they buried Husaberg, I would guess. MVA could probably use some financial stability and development resources, too
😲didn't hear this
I'm researching a video about motorcycle brands and the Italian brands are making my head spin.
I have cover some brands in my videos. Feel free to use what you want.
A lot of research there mate thanks
You bet. I don't think I have done that much research since high school. Actually I didn't study at all in school 🤣
At last.. Someone who know how it's pronounced properly
😂😂
Not Ka-Gui-Va but Cajiva # Ka-Jee-va.
Castiglione Giorgio a VArese. The name of the father of the two brothers + the name of the city in Italy.
Varese is a small town on the banks of Lake Varese , that's how it gets its name !
@@mohba01Yes I know, I went there in july 1984 to visit the Cagiva plant, eat at the plant restaurant and visit the racing department.
We saw the 500 GP of Marco Luchinelli, the prototype of the Ligier/Cagiva 750 Paris Dakar and saw Giacomo Agostini Yamaha GP team manager at that time coming to visit his friends and in the racing department there was the famous mecanic Alberto Milani former MV Agusta official rider.
When we went ot we just jumped into the racing dust bins and I got and still have a wrongly machined magnesuim fork clamp.
@@philippejoseph8604 that's some amazing piece of history mate !
@@mohba01The Cagiva plant is located in the former Aermacchi aeroplanes and motorcycles plant with a lake on his side because Aermacchi was building seaplanes, it's a very nice place.
Caghiva
