  • Nvidia may have some of the worst naming conventions (like every tech company) but the technology is always cool imo.
Path tracing aka RT Overdrive is here and it's dope but how is different from raytracing and should be even believe the hype?

Wow, I was surprised when I checked your subscriber count halfway through this video. Keep it up and you’ll get to 1M fairly quickly. This level of cinematography for a video game video isn’t something I’ve seen before.

insane looking video! the lighting and grading is phenomenal. i've always kind of just ignored the RTX stuff before because i was scared my system wasn't really up to scratch, but the comparisons you showed really highlighted what a difference it can make. def gotta try to explore this

Man this is how you create content. Talking about cyberpunk riding around in a single wheel board lol.
    Awesome video and breakdown.
Edit - you also talk about the mod for cyberpunk, Alan wake 2 has already got path tracing settings- low, medium and high. I couldn't believe how well the 3080 handled path tracing btw.

Honestly, with how good a game like Alan Wake 2 looks on the lowest possible settings, I don't see a point in high settings anymore. It's not the early 2000s anymore. We're long past counting individual pixels in textures and heads with sharp edges. Things looks like what they're supposed to look like, even on potato settings. Meanwhile a lot developers forget that games are primarily supposed to be fun. Until basically all PC gamers can actually play with heavy ray tracing or even path tracing enabled, and games are made with that in mind, i.e., it matters in terms of gameplay, I simply can't bring myself to care about any of it.

Alan Wake 2 hasn't got a potato setting, you need a GTX1080 just to get 30FPS on lowest settings which is below their stated minimum setting. Your argument makes no sense, you might of well said "No Blu Ray films should have been released until everyone had a 1080P TV". RT/PT make games look much better and the Tech is being used in all the next gen engines. Just rewatch this video for the night and day differences in Image quality.

@@steveleadbeater8662 you can release a movie on Blu Ray, DVD, VHS, Betamax, ... with essentially zero extra cost. People will buy the format they can watch at home. Making a game that strictly requires ray tracing for its gameplay would financially ruin a studio, because hardly anyone could play it. You won't see a game that actually uses ray traced lighting as a gameplay mechanic until basically everyone can run it OK. I know games can technically look more realistic with ray tracing, but that doesn't mean the overall experience is any better. For most people it's worse, because they get a very sluggish experience due to very low framerates.
Btw, I purposefully wrote "I don't see a point in" and "I don't care" about ray tracing. Then you come in with an irrelevant example about movies and try to tell me my opinion is wrong. Real class move. Play your games however you want, but don't try to tell me how I play mine.

Upscaling is iffy. They need a way to not apply it to hair for instance it ends up aliased in every game.
