So many guys who people didn’t think would become main event guys did in the attitude era, Austin, rock, hhh, foley, Kane. Gosh how much I miss watching raw as a kid during that time. There will never be nothing else like that
There’s a deep dive on YT from Rocky’s pre-debut vignettes to his heel turn. The crowds were not immediately against him as we’re led to believe. What really happened was more organic. He started off well-received, there was eventually some apathy mixed in, and then some negative signs. There was never a time prior to his heel turn where the entire crowd was against him, despite what is commonly accepted as true. It’s the same phenomenon as the story of Stone Cold’s rise. You remember after he won King of the Ring, there were “Austin 316” signs the next night on Raw, right? Wrong. He didn’t even get a televised entrance that night. When his glass breaking music debuted it was overlapped by a Shawn Michaels promo, rather than being treated as an instant classic. His rise was gradual, and coincided more with the “uncensored” highlight VHS that came out, along with the iconic shirt. But, as they say, never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
