      It is pretty amazing to have this much programming ability, I am still impressed by the low cost and incredible value. Yes, I was skeptical but I went ahead and risked the cash and it is wonderful that this machine is capable of such a broad range of musical sounds-and noise. I love a variety of noise like pink red and blue! Lol.Serious, it is a sound designers asset Save up or borrow one, do it before they go bye bye like all the amazing stuff does...eventually..

    The fact that the matrix brute has most modulation destinations and parameters on the frontplate makes it such an attractive synth.
    I've owned a Virus B in the past (different beast I know) and diving into menu's to route modulation was a real blow not only to my workflow but also to the whole process of exploring new sounds, which was sad because the Virus is more than capable to create a wide range of sounds.
    If it wasn't so big I'd definitely consider saving up for it.
    But hey the call of Eurocrack is real :^)

      Did you tried the same thing with the Ti? I found software control for my Ti irreplaceable for modulation matrix.

    • @Nachtdwaler
      @Nachtdwaler 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I didn't actually as the price for the TI was always a bit too steep for me back then.
      And on the other hand when I buy an expensive hardware synth, I don't want to rely on software on my PC to get the most out of it, I really like everything in the box and easily accessed *hue*

      I disliked modulation routing on the Prophet 08. On the v2 they seem to have simplified it a lot. Matrixbrute is a great way to do it though.

      Circular Gates thank for your honest insight. Unfortunately TH-cam is full of people flowing product. The MB may be a great concept but Moog is Moog, that will never change, it is part of our musical heritage and very much loved.

    Yo bo this is the greatest video I never knew I needed to see, that ending patch! Dayum. Also I looked at the mother 32 first but then settled on the matrixbrute (saving for it), and you've shown me it can be a hub for modular should I get the mother later!

    Regarding the keyboard stand recommendation for the matrixbrute with a second device, I use a OnStage heavy duty dual tier Z stand model KS7365EJ. On the second tier I mount a 7u 208hp eurorack modular. This stand more than handles the weight (400 lbs x 60 lbs second tier); it is rock solid. It also leaves me a lot of room for expansion on the second tier with no worries about the brute.

      I feel like a newbie wondering whay goes where? My electronic music class never taught analog in the mid 80s, far to antique I guess. (The studio sold their ARP2600 to make room for the DX7 lol ) This really helps, many of us have a couple modules laying around. Like my idea for a big modular to call my own .....mating different units seems risky somehow.

    • @TheValCapGroup
      @TheValCapGroup 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSynthZone a good place to start is daisy chaining in my opinion. just midi out the brute to midi in on the mother and boom you will be doing something in sync haha. obviously you can go much deeper then this, but it gives you an easy means of shaping sounds on the mother, which to me, is what modular is all about.

    Thé vidéo i was expecting so much ;) well done Bo, i think people May look now at the Matrixbrute as a centerpiece of a setup and not « only » a big Synth. The more i use The Matrixbrute and The digitakt both linked to other synths and drum machines The less i use ableton....

    Hi Bo! I have my Matrixbrute on a Jaspers 6d-120b stand and it holds it with no problems what so ever. (would also be a good stand to stick all your other gadgets on too!) I have an extra support bar underneath it just to hold the extra weight. Hope you find something to hold her up soon.

    On-Stage Stands KS-7903 3-Tier A-Frame this seams to work for a stand you just need to adjust the 3 teir to have a board or something to set whatever eurorack case you would have on it fit

    Hi Bo,
    In the market for a Sub 37 until this video.
    To be honest it (Matrix) didn't really convice me soundwise compared to the Sub37 but the modular approach in this video does.
    Also got a M32 and you got both Sub37 and MatrixBrute, any thought or things to consider?
    Thanks

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mike Hydropneumatic hm, not that much I can think of. Having a lot of gear with CV is simply very nice! Interconnecting is fun! Subsequent 37 with CV ins/outs would perhaps be a competitor.

      have you seen Automatic Gainsay's video series? The Matrixbrute has a lot more features like how you can play chords even though its not polyphonic.It seems like a better value too if you consider all the features.

    • @mikehydropneumatic2583
      @mikehydropneumatic2583 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Can't really follow your reasoning. It sounds quite contradictive saying the synths are too much alike and then suggesting/buying three of the VERY same synths.
      The three tier M32 is a nice set up but completely different approach, the biggest neg I find no preset/user banks. For sound exploring nice but it takes away from actually playing some music. ifferent synths also have different OSC,filter and envelope options and characteristics.
      I think a performance synth (Jupiter 50) and one or two analog synths got all the bases covered.

  • @MadelnMachines
    @MadelnMachines 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What can you output via cv on the matrixbrute? The sequencer? All of the envelopes? All of the oscillators individually? All of the LFOs? What are the limitations? Really beautiful distorted lead by the way at the end. Is that the matrixbrute distortion?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its hard to explain in text but you can send most of the sources out the outputs. But this is still a bit of eurorack magic and I am not entirely sure how to technically describe it in text.

    • @MadelnMachines
      @MadelnMachines 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know how many envelopes and LFOs you can send out at the same time? What is a VCO cv output used for?

    6:07 "Square" means 50% duty cycle; "pulse" can be any duty cycle.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Roderick_Legato
      @Roderick_Legato 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just a few decades of engineering experience. Oh, and Wikipedia backs me up en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_wave (2nd paragraph).

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah I read that before but didn't quite understand it (ZERO engineering experience :D ). Now I get it. So a Square is always "perfect", where a pulse can vary?

    • @Roderick_Legato
      @Roderick_Legato 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Square simply means that the high state and the low state are exactly the same duration, i.e. 50% duty cycle.
