I saw their other vocalist and guitarist Tommy Shaw in his solo band live in Detroit in 1988 and they did new songs plus classic Styx songs and it was a great show. What made the night better is that they opened up for Rush.
Grand illusion beyond awesome album 💯💯💯💯 been a fan since 1976 I'm now 56 years old and this song never get boring never! Real musicians real lyrics real musicianship 💯💯💯💯💯
Styx, Kansas, Boston, Journey, Led Zeppelin, and on, and on, and on..Too many to mention.. The 70's and 80's were an incredible time to be alive. And going to concerts, that were practically happening every weekend for $10 a pop was a nice bonus as well. :)
I was fortunate enough to see them my senior year in high school (20,000 seat arena) - we were louder than they were; we gave it back to them in spades!
Welcome to the Grand Illusion that is Styx. "The Grand Illusion" "Pieces of Eight" and "Cornerstone" were in constant rotation on my turntable. Styx is a very happy band. Peace
Rich, YOU ARE THE MAN!!! I hate when labels chop up songs to fit time restrictions. Love you guys. Mel’s reactions make me smile in my heart and soul. Please keep it up.
Oh Styx. I still remember my brother playing their album "pieces of eight", I was immidiately blown away. Especially when "the great white hope" was played. A real honest rock anthem with a great riff. For me one of their best tunes.
Jim Livesey hi!!!!! Thank you so much for this most excellent comment. We are so happy that you’re enjoying what we are doing and you are sharing in the experience! Please feel free to comment as much as you’d like as there are some fantastically wonderful people that frequent all of our videos and look to see what comments people have posted. Much love and thanks. Kel-n-Rich
First off, I very rarely comment on youtube. But, Rich Im so glad you turned Kel onto the long version of this song. Both of you are amazing to watch...especially Kel. She has an innocent child-like quality to her when she takes in all this beautiful music from your very accomplished library of tunes. Well done, my good sir.
Styx is a great band and have many KILLER songs...Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight are their two best albums...Very profound stuff...Saw them in 78...
Hey guys I am trying to come up with some fun tracks with harmonized singing. Crosby. Stihls and Nash. This is my 5 favorite of theirs. 1.Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. 2. Teach Your Children. 3. Our House. 4. Marrakesh Express. 5.Love The One You're. Please do these. I will hashtag them too.
Dennis never seems to get the props from the music press he deserves for having one of the best voices in the history of popular music. He’s got power, control, a good range and, above all, crazy good tone.
1987 I was introduced to Styx and the Dead Kennedys by a friend who later that year took his own life. As a memorial to him I celebrate his life with Come Sail Away.
You know.... While I watch you two....i feel I have gotten to know you. You are the type of people I would choose as friends. Keep it up....you are doing a great job!
Kel you guys have done 5 SuperTramp songs but my 10 favorite are still ready. You will love Goodbye Stranger and title track Breakfast in America. ELO good. Fun.
Cant help but sing along with this! Entire album a masterpiece. got to see them one row back from stage in Vegas. Come Sail Away grabbed me when I first heard it many years ago (77?), and seeing them perform it live had me in tears, couldnt help it, didnt care!
First saw this band at a girlfriend's HS homecoming dance. Her fav song was "Lady", their first hit. After the dance, the band sold some merch and signed autographs. Met the guys, too.
Thanks for updating this. It struck me while watching that this song is kind of like Kel's musical journey. She spent her whole life playing classical stuff, and wondering what she was missing, and then halfway through the song suddenly the guitars and drums start and it juts takes off. You can see it in her face where she goes from appreciating pretty music to YEAH!
My reaction when I hear ANY short version is about the same as your, Rich. "Marthur's park was 7 minutes (Richard Harris, not Donna Summer) and even the AM stations didn't cut it.
I grew up in potato country, and picked potatoes all fall to buy this album back in 1978!!! Bought the Styx album and a new stereo the same year!! My Mom and Dad used to scream at me to turn it down, cause the windows in the house were shaking!!! Oh, to be young again!!!!
Love you two... totally different song with the keyboard part huh?... Hey Rich, you've GOT to proof your work. Always pre-screen which version you're gonna play so you get the right one. Kel, really happy your musical knowledge is increasing by the classics.
The record companies really need to come up with some means of giving permission to reactors, as they only act to spread the word of so many great artists. But I'm fine with the current system if it allows us to see you wonderful guys reacting - love ya! And thanks again!
And Prelude 12/Suite Madame Blue not only for the musical journey it takes a person on, but also the theme of it being about the country we love...the good old USA! It is on the Equinox album
Where are you guys????I enjoyed your reactions, is really fascinating to see people from others musical formation peaking in rock music genres 😝😝😜😜 I enjoyed Kel laughing discovering “new sounds “ Rick was a good pilot I miss you guys The best wishes for you
Rich, we are definitely on the same page! I knew right away what you was reacting to when you were shaking your head in disgust! I would have, and actually have reacted the same way when I hear the edited version of certain songs that I know have more to it! YES!! High five man!
I caught your high-five! Thanks man!!!! Awesome. Some things must be done properly. This was one instance! Normally I'm chill when things go sideways but this was just not cool at all!!!!
How about The Cars. I haven't seen anyone do them. There 1st 2 albums incredible. I am sure she knows Moving in Stereo. But how about Candy-O or Good Times Roll or Dangerous Type or Let's Go.
Hi Kel & Rich..... it's time for The Doors..... Riders on the Storm, Moonlight Drive, L.A Woman & of course Light My Fire ! She needs to hear them all... but one at a time is fine 😉 Thank you & love the channel you guys are so sweet together ❤
Grand Illusion was the very first album that was just mine. My uncle received it as a gift , he already had it so he gave it to me. I loved that album with all my being. I was 10.
When I was in High School, we couldn't wait for the next Styx album or dong to be released. When paradise Theater came out, the vinyl was laser engraved..it was soooo cool...
Once you've gotten the first-view reactions out of the way, Kel needs to hear the Grand Illusion album start to finish. "Castle Walls", "Man In The Wilderness".....there's not a bad track on the entire album! Dig it!!
Actually first time I listened to Styx, other than Roboto” I was tripping out on a hit of acid......I thought they were the most magical band I had ever heard at that point, lol Good stuff...no matter if your high or straight!!
back in the 1970's, top-40 stations were NOTORIOUS for cutting songs short at the end, or for playing shorter versions with the best parts cut out. that used to DRIVE ME UP THE WALL!
Kelly thank you so much!!!! The more you listen to STYX the more you will love them
saw styx two years ago live in Macon Ga. Had front row seats... AWESOME!!!!!!
Nice...VERY NICE!!! Yes Kel you'll definitely want to hear more of STYX. Great band great music. Thanx Rich, thanx Kel🤩🤩🤩
Saw Styx live 4 times. They never disappoint.
How lucky to be a teenager in the 70's and have bands like Styx to enjoy
Styx, Kansas, Boston, Journey, Led Zeppelin, and on, and on, and on..Too many to mention.. The 70's and 80's were an incredible time to be alive. And going to concerts, that were practically happening every weekend for $10 a pop was a nice bonus as well. :)
Yes, indeed... It sure didn't suck.
Yes, we were.
absolutely ! the best !!! era
I was fortunate enough to see them my senior year in high school (20,000 seat arena) - we were louder than they were; we gave it back to them in spades!
Rich's face when he realized this isn't the ''normal'' version lmao, I felt it, too. Also, 14:07 lol.
I was the same way. That keyboard part is the best part of the song!!
@Al haa haa really!
She is totally oblivious as well, lol
Yeah I too felt a disturbance in the Force..
I hate radio versions, I hate shortened video versions...
The Grand Illusion album was pure magic. It was huge and not one bad song on the entire album.
It's truly hard to find a "bad" Styx song at all until the Kilroy album. :)
@@brianjones8432 Please let it end was pretty bad.
There wasn't a better time in the world than to be a teenager in the '70s yes !!
Welcome to the Grand Illusion that is Styx.
"The Grand Illusion" "Pieces of Eight" and "Cornerstone" were in constant rotation on my turntable.
Styx is a very happy band.
Peace
The album after, " Paradise Theater" , is superb also
I was so lucky to see the Grand Illusion tour in '78 . When they were in their prime they were quite a band .
Rich, YOU ARE THE MAN!!! I hate when labels chop up songs to fit time restrictions. Love you guys. Mel’s reactions make me smile in my heart and soul. Please keep it up.
Well I live in El Paso and needed to hear this and see happy faces...cheers and beers to you two
Hope u& yours r ok. Tragically this has become our narrative in the US. Sick abt the apathy 4 real answers& solutions.
It is really fun to watch her reactions to the music I grew up with....the joy is infectious.
Amazing band saw them in the late 70s' Tommy was like a high school student on stage but was so talented. One of the great anthems of Styx
Goosebumps
Oh Styx. I still remember my brother playing their album "pieces of eight", I was immidiately blown away. Especially when "the great white hope" was played. A real honest rock anthem with a great riff. For me one of their best tunes.
See Kel´s reaction and then totally amazed with a great song it´s priceless!!!!.Rock on lovely lady!!!
First time I have come across these two happy people,I live in Cyprus and am thoroughly enjoying both their antics and music.

Jim Livesey there is also an updated version of this reaction where I edited some parts out and added a couple of features.
Greatest save EVER! You did the right thing man. Come Sail Away is precious to so many people.
The entire album was stellar. Not a bad song there
Kel-n-Rich......you guys bring back days that have been forgotten, and I, for one love you guys for that!!! Keep doing what you do!!!
I felt the same as you Rich. What the hell? Talk about gilding the lily. Glad you went to the full version. Rock on people!

Fell in love with Styx as a teen. Incredible song. So much great music during my childhood and teen years. Thank you!
One of the greatest bands ever. Dennis still sounds fantastic at 70+
Styx is a great band and have many KILLER songs...Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight are their two best albums...Very profound stuff...Saw them in 78...
I know of Styx but never listened to them before. I really liked this one. That keyboard section was epic.
The musical break is the cherry on top, for me. Thank you for replaying it. There's no way she misses that.
New Styx fan??
The look on Rich's face was priceless. I had the same expression when they did not the synth solo hehe

I only heard this for the first time a couple weeks ago, Kels reaction was my exact reaction 😂😂
Kel you guys have done 5 SuperTramp songs but my 10 favorite are still ready. You will love Goodbye Stranger and title track Breakfast in America. ELO good. Fun.

Lol.. love you guys.. that face you made at the cut was epic!
Love Styx, and I love this song!!!
Love her reactions!! Seems like such a fun lady!!
OMG,I ABSOLUTELY LOVE KEL.Music frees her so much(and I absolutely love to listen to her laugh when she loves the music)
There is that LOVE that shows again. So great
First saw this band at a girlfriend's HS homecoming dance. Her fav song was "Lady", their first hit. After the dance, the band sold some merch and signed autographs. Met the guys, too.
It honestly sounded like a radio edit! I was born in 1960 so the seventies and eighties music was there in my formative years. GREAT STUFF!
I was born in 60 also To me it was the late 60s And 70s Wasnt into 80 s much
Yet another "Stairway To Heaven" song....the 70's are full of them. Page must be quite proud!
Kel has now had the official Styx mindblow!
Thank you for doing it again! The full version
You two make me smile :) Thanks for finding the best version!
This was my graduating class song, in 1978. Love it to this day.
My reaction when I hear ANY short version is about the same as your, Rich. "Marthur's park was 7 minutes (Richard Harris, not Donna Summer) and even the AM stations didn't cut it.
The lyrics are amazing as well as the musical combination of orchestra and rock.
Hey, Rich. You always look so proudly at the musicians, as though they were your sons or your personal friends. I like that.
I grew up in potato country, and picked potatoes all fall to buy this album back in 1978!!! Bought the Styx album and a new stereo the same year!! My Mom and Dad used to scream at me to turn it down, cause the windows in the house were shaking!!! Oh, to be young again!!!!
I can't hear this without thinking of Eric Cartman frantically speed singing it to kill the earworm.
You
🤣

I absolutely LOVE how Kel feels and appreciates the music as she listens!
Pieces of Eight great too
The look on Rich’s face when the keyboard solo was skipped. 😭
I literally felt the grey hairs pop out from areas I had no idea even existed. You saw that, right? Much love @cookiedoughhead. Rich
This is why I say to never ever ever play these live songs for her first.
All of our faces. We were waiting to see her melt with the music 🎶
Go see them live - so much fun
That's right! Rich don't settle for any of that no keyboard having nonsense, nor should anyone with any self-respect.
@@Kel.N.RichReactions I couldn't agree more. Blasphemy!!
And Prelude 12/Suite Madame Blue not only for the musical journey it takes a person on, but also the theme of it being about the country we love...the good old USA! It is on the Equinox album
the styx concert at sweden rock was one of my fave ever at srf, loved it...

Loved your reaction. Forgot how great this band was. Thank you.
Love you guys!
Kels Canadian!!!!!!!Freaking awesome !!!!!
white rock bc here...you guys are great
how about her reaction to Cajun music...?
Heard this live in a cloud of happy smoke. Thats was most concerts in the 70's. Rich is giving Kel lots of great tunes.
How about The Cars. I haven't seen anyone do them. There 1st 2 albums incredible. I am sure she knows Moving in Stereo. But how about Candy-O or Good Times Roll or Dangerous Type or Let's Go.
Please review Lets Go......just brings back sooo many memories from being an 80's teen!!...Fun fun fun.....summer being with friends tune.
"She's a lot like you , The Dangerous type. Sorry when i saw it typed in your comment, I had to sing it ☺
I'd vote for Since I Held You, Just What I Needed, and Got a Lot On My Head
I love just what I needed
It's okay that you haven't heard it yet !you are now and that's all that matters ..so have a great time You are gonna love it
Hi Kel & Rich..... it's time for The Doors..... Riders on the Storm, Moonlight Drive, L.A Woman & of course Light My Fire ! She needs to hear them all... but one at a time is fine 😉 Thank you & love the channel you guys are so sweet together ❤
Live will be first reactions...she knows the catalogue pretty well, but we'll find some we both don't know! Rich
My favorite part of this song is the hi-hat in the middle of this song going from side to side.
There ya go Rich! Perfect!
My first rock concert was Styx at the Rockland County Community College. 1978
This was one of the songs I played in my high school band
KIller tune. Nice reaction. Styx always brings thoughts of old composers.
Played this song at my brother's memorial, I believe this song is about the after life
OH that look Kel says it all thank you
Grand Illusion was the very first album that was just mine. My uncle received it as a gift , he already had it so he gave it to me. I loved that album with all my being. I was 10.
When I was in High School, we couldn't wait for the next Styx album or dong to be released. When paradise Theater came out, the vinyl was laser engraved..it was soooo cool...
This is the first song I got the sheet music for and learned to play that wasn't classical music, the first one that "I" got to pick.
Ear candy. One of the best 70's albums for sure!
STYX (Grand Illusion Tour) was my very first concert. Opening band was a band you should look into...Legs Diamond.
I bought that disc that has the cut version, and I too was so angry that I never put the CD in the player ever again. Good call, Rich!
Kel's reaction is so awesome!
So glad you put the full version on. Woo hoo
Just tuned in this ought to be good!
I agree. That first version cut out the synthesizers and keyboards in the middle of the song.
Once you've gotten the first-view reactions out of the way, Kel needs to hear the Grand Illusion album start to finish. "Castle Walls", "Man In The Wilderness".....there's not a bad track on the entire album!
Dig it!!
Kell open your eyes..I love u guys!
Suite Madam Blue,best Styx song.
Glad you added the video's. Much easier to follow 😎
Actually first time I listened to Styx, other than Roboto” I was tripping out on a hit of acid......I thought they were the most magical band I had ever heard at that point, lol
Good stuff...no matter if your high or straight!!
I chrome cast TH-cam to my TV set and there is no way to cast two streams at once. Same goes for watching it on my phone; only one screen at a time.
Kel needs to hear RENEGADE by Styx. Such a awesome song!
I heard about a senior class in a small town making this their class song in the 90's.
They chose a song about alien abduction!
Styx still puts on an amazing live show after all these years. Total professionals.
back in the 1970's, top-40 stations were NOTORIOUS for cutting songs short at the end, or for playing shorter versions with the best parts cut out.
that used to DRIVE ME UP THE WALL!
Also I hate when a stations plays Journeys Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin and don’t do City of The Angels.
