  • Global health and public health practitioners use Health Economics to better understand the decisions that get made that affect health. Calculating the DALYs averted or QALYs gained for per dollar spent, for example, can help NGOs and Governments decide which health interventions to invest in. These sorts of cost utility and cost effectiveness (economic evaluations) help with decision making.

    Your definition of economics made me start looking at decision making in new perspective.
    5 min is a short time to go in details... so disclaimer and warning helped. But surely covered lot of ground.

    Thank you. This is a great fun way to learn about Health Systems and grasp the key concepts quickly, especially enjoyed watching it with music . It is quick paced and because of the way I learn Ill play it through another couple of times to really get it.
    As for the learning message - If only health systems working in practice were this simple ! After 30 years as a registered nurse my biggest diagnosis for effective health systems and services is good effective communication at all levels and forms of interaction. Keep on keepin on the good communication that you are effecting and may your helpful information reach all the places its needed in goodly time please God.

    Dr. Martin, this was a great video and I love the connection you made between global health and how health practitioners can use it as a tool to improve the quality of life of individuals. I look forward to hearing the video on health policy and also provide resources that students can use for project ideas, policies, research etc. It is important that we incorporate economic concepts (e.g., cost-effective analysis) in the projects public health practitioners wish to undertake.

    will I doing MPH?

    • @gregmartin
      @gregmartin  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      An MPH will be very useful (if you are able to do one). That said, there are people working in the public health space that don't have MPH degrees and bring other skills (as in your case, zoology).

      Actually
      I want to build up my career in public health.
      At first I want to do MPH from world class university.
      Which university is best for MPH?

    • @gregmartin
      @gregmartin  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Arif - getting an MPH from a world class university will stand you in good stead. In terms of which university to attend, it depends a little on what you want to get out of it and what you would like to do afterwards (they all offer slightly different programmes with different emphasis). In the last few videos that I've done, I've tried to highlight the strengths of a few universities. LSHTM, for example has an excellent global health programme. Notre Dame has an excellent MSc Global Health (with a strong emphasis on science). Johns Hopkins has an excellent reputation. USC, North Western, UCSF are all great schools. Its hard to say though. It does depend a little on what you're looking for.
