I also interpreted Invisible Wounds as possibly a message to the fans. I think during Step 1 and Step 2 she positioned herself as the “Queen” of the Queendom and I think she set up this image of herself as this guiding light for her fans. But fans then also put pressure on her to be perfect and flawless, which just isn’t possible. And she’s been pretty vocal about how upset she is with things going on in the world. I think she’s matured to realize that she can’t be this perfect guiding light for her fans because she’s still human too, and she’s also hurting. “I need you to stop needing me” because she can’t be responsible for fixing everyone when she needs to heal herself first.
The first time I listened to Dreams I balled my eyes out completely, as for myself I am literally trapped within a religion that just breaks me apart and has been doing since the day I was born into it. So when Aurora said that she abandoned a religion and never came back IT. HIT. HARD, in the best and worst way possible. Then she started talking about covering tracks and remaining hidden which made me cry even more because its what I've had to do to lead my own 'shadow' life away from the religion. To say the least I cried again with you this time and it felt so relieving, thx Fern.
Invisible Wounds and Echo of My Shadow are fully about herself; her own thoughts and feelings. The songs in between messages are not about herself. My Body is Not Mine is "Ceasefire now!" overlayed with "Is this all you got!?". Aurora said in the WHTTH watch party that she feels the most like herself than she has ever been in any of her albums so far. Lovely reaction ❤
The way you understood what the story was by track 2!! She said Echo of my shadow was her saying goodbye to a past version of her and this whole album is about her grappling with the state of humanity without finding an escape (mothership vibes). Dreams is literally her saying it’s easier to find peace in her fantasies. So human!!
yea, this is why Dreams is in the middle of the album. It's like she had gone to sleep, dreaming about her idealizations and waking up just to realize nothing changes, the world continues its evil and pain. I've felt that because depression makes you want to run away from reality

thank you so much for this reaction+review! been listening to this album since it came out but didn't get to fully understand all the songs just on my own. watching this felt like i was analysing the music along with you for two hours (although it's x2 of that, or more, for you), and progressively feeling everything through the tracklist - from Echo of My Shadow and the pop bangers, transitioning to the dark folky tracks, escaping into Dreams, to the rage in the last few songs and finally to Invisible Wounds 🥲 (might be her most personal yet honest song we have so far!). anyway, definitely will come back to this video myself too! AOTY, or even AOTD because this entire body of work is so important and realised in such a way people like us who feel so deeply, and for everyone to resonate and come to terms within ourselves. it's not an easy album to create really because as mentioned, it's existential and realised, but the end result is... a masterpiece. so so proud of AURORA, and her for tackling the question title by taking us through this amazing sonic journey 🥹

As for the album of the year, me too, we are entitled to have a personal prefences in our musical taste, so don't take any crap from anyone that doesn't agree, art is so very subjective. Sadly, where I am, hardly anyone knows who she is here in the states, sure, she has fans here, she has fans all over the world, but here, you will never hear her music being played on any radio or stores with music piped in. Unfortunately, I hate mainstream music here in the states, almost all of it sounds like the same person singing every song, can't tell one from the other of most of the music, IMO, is garbage. Sure there are a few, very few, exceptions here, but nobody is anywhere in Aurora's league of mult talents, she is beyond compare, okay, done now, loved your reaction, wishing you health and happiness Fern.
