      Oh mehn!!!! You did good on this series Fam! You're an Elite OG in my books, I like that even when you give us your "preference" you explain why it is your preference without shitting on objectivity (Jesse and Teeto situation). I dig that, that's hard a thing to do but you pulled it off, I doff my hat for you. This whole beef was good for Nigerian Hip Hop, and the peace in the end is perfect as well (MI's line where he said "pour the Henny out and hope for the peace" is an African ritual of pouring out alcohol to appease the gods while praying for peace). I love and appreciate you for going on this journey with us Steve, Blessings. #GSgang

      Vector gave two lines in that cypher that was just deciphered last week.
      You need to understand the Nigerian Entertainment Environment to get the Hotwire line.
      Also, the Dumblane line was about BBC review of the Dumblane massacre.
      And you need to be a Tottenham Fan to understand the 6th position line.
      It a Cypher steve, not a Rhyme Scheme. You need to think to get it. Back when it was released here in Nigeria, Niggas went crazy on those Vector Line.
      Just an opinion

    Sad to see this series end. We have to keep moving on though. A few pointers...
    7:20
    Teeto said "Olukoya with the flow always bring the fire sermon" He's drawing parallels with Olukoya, a pastor of a church called mountain of fire. They pray a lot with reference to fire. So he's saying his bars are like Olukoya's fire prayers.
    He also mentioned about taking your sandals off when you see the fire burning. That's Moses in the Bible taking his sandals off at the burning bush.
    15:51 M.I said "until our lives matter is F.A cup like a gooner". Nigerians are ARDENT football (soccer) fans. And a prominent English premier League club, Arsenal (also known as the gooners) are prolific English F.A cup winners, so M.I is saying the black lives matter conversations has to keep being in our narrative like the gooners keep winning the F.A cup
    15:53 M.I said, "pray for peace in Kaduna". That subtle line really struck a chord with me, cause there's been a lot of blood shed in southern Kaduna Nigeria and as usual, no justice, no peace, we just keep praying and trusting God for resolution.
    In the end, it's been an incredible journey with you Steve. I followed your channel with the first reaction I watched from you. I had watched multiple other reaction channels but never really got interested, but the professionalism and desire to learn that you have exhibited made me stay with you. Keep doing what you do, God bless you abundantly.
    And I owe one punch for that cliffhanger at the end. I almost thought my phone was playing tricks on me, had to rewind a couple of times before realising I was played :)

    I've said that once you do this reaction, I was going to share my comment on another reaction to this cypher as my first comment. Here goes (the question was "who came hardest?") :
    * * * * *
    Definitely Jesse Jagz in pure cypher form.
    Vec was quite deep to unpack because his references will be missed by a lot of people. I mean, the line "you can't hotwire the air-car that I move in" is a reference to Big Brother Naija last year were two participants - Kidd Waya & Erica - were a couple. Also, "My Neo Black Movement is slow bullets" is a double reference to Neo in the movie 'Matrix' (slowing down the speed of bullets) and the 'Neo Black Movement', a fraternity in Nigerian universities. And I understand the line about 'Halleluyah' and 'Heaven' were references to some of his tracks or albums. I'm not sure of that one though, but I'm thinking that by the time one does the research and finally unpacks Vec's verse, it might hit way harder than it did.
    Ceemos was better than most reactions gave him credit for. For instance, his lines "Takeover with the bars, you can feel the Ether leaking/I Hit 'Em Up Back to Back..." referenced four of the dopest diss tracks ever made -' Takeover' by Jay-Z, 'Ether' by Nas, 'Hit' Em Up' by Pac and 'Back to Back' by Drake. A few more wouldn't be understood by someone who can't relate with the Nigerian context. The line, "Olukoya with the flow, I bring the fire sermon" references Dr. Olukoya who is the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries.
    Finally, I liked MI because he was easily the best with the philosophy and the facts. He told the story of major events in 2020 very cleverly. Everyone felt his first four bars, then he went into story mode. The reference to Segalink and the Coven was about the #EndSARS protest last year. EndSARS was actually started by Segalink (a Twitter influencer) about 3 years ago but when it went very viral last year, he was not in the lead. A group of young women who called themselves the Feminists Coven eventually coordinated most of the protests by raising money nationally and internationally to support all protest organizers. They eventually became a major face of the protest. This created some areas of friction between them and Segalink especially about how the protest should be coordinated and bred a lot of bad blood. The reference to the Coven led to MI talking about feminism and supporting our women.
    So, again Jagz was hard with his lyrical dexterity which easily makes him the best on the cypher. But when you take a closer look at the contexts of each of them, you'd realise it's actually much closer than you think.
    * * * * *
    Now, with that out of the way, a very big appreciation to you for doing this series. I mean I had to look at things in this beef series very differently coming from your angle. Going through everything within a short space of time definitely shifts perspectives a bit. But I think the most critical part of these reactions for me is the knowledge you share. Obviously, you have your own biases, but you acknowledge them when they come into play which is quite rare. Thank you for doing this, and I can't wait to go through the next one with you. I strongly believe you carry a lot of people along when you cover series like this. Right now, I don't care if it's music from anywhere but if we have to go through them in series, I'm sure I'll enjoy it more.
    On to the next one. Let's goooo! #GSGang

    Jesse as you rightly discovered is a musical theorist, sadly the Nigerian music scene doesn't quite appreciate his skill, hence they tend to love him more on features. Teeto hasn't put out a major body of work to be truly rated, he comes of as good but not committed. Vector has been so focused on calling himself the best he stagnated his potential, his skill never really matured. M.I. mastered the business and understood that to propagate rap in Nigeria, the audience had to see success so he approached the game very specific attention to his audience and their sensibilities, made money and brought out the interests of a lot of the new rappers who now view the art form as viable. His approach led to the dichotomy of his releases hence the illegal music series (for the true hip-hop lovers) and his studio releases for the nascent Naija hip-hop afro pop loving audience. Now he big bros his raps, nothing to prove to anyone.
    FYI the feminist talk was not scatter brain, if I'm not mistaken at the time of this recording there was some controversial feminist backlash that was going on. Frankly Nigeria's having an ongoing hard time accepting feminism.
    Again nice reaction, I like that your reactions aren't tainted by knowledge of the circumstances of the industry. Just your knowledge of the craft and some of your preferential style bias. But I'll admit sometimes that causes you to miss some nice word play and double/triple entendres..

      This was a dope write up i appreciate this! I had a few explain the feminist background info so that's dope to brush up my knowledge on. As far as missing double/triple entandres go I view this two ways. 1. I provide insight into what the music sounds like from an outsider which I think is actually valuable in and of itself. 2. When it comes to those particular type of bars they register as a reach to me and sloppy writing. I am FULLY aware that in 2021 and given their use in battle rap people have come to enjoy them but I am not one of them. That particular aspect is a huge bias I try to be open about.

    "I said it with my chest" is such a Nigerian thing to say 😂
    15:11 "...so the fans can stop beefing like Sega Link and The Coven"
    - Sega Link is a Nigerian Twitter influencer who was historically very active on the #EndSARS movement. He was known for helping out when people got picked up by the police (and I think he even got involved in the 2020 Police Reform bill). "The Coven" is a group of Nigerian female Twitter influencers who got into a series of spats with Sega Link in the past over what they considered patriarchal views. He actually referred to them as witches and they accepted the title and started calling themselves a coven 😄
    The Coven (aka the feminist coalition) was very active during the October 2020 protests. Some even got harassed by the government (passports seized, accounts frozen) so when he says, "who tries to fix a country that rapes them and leaves them broken (15:19)," it was anything but scatterbrained.
    15:54 "We pray for peace in Kaduna..."
    - 2020 witnessed some gory violence in Kaduna, a state in Northern Nigeria. Unfortunately, due to the prevalent culture/religion in that part of the country, the people seem to believe that protests are not acceptable and the ideal way to make your displeasure known to the government is to wait for the next election.
    15:56 "For those who turned up to protest, We hope you turn up to vote, yes!"
    - This speaks to the bit about protests vs. elections. Aside the fact that some Nigerians insist the only way to fix things in the country is to vote in a competent government at the next elections, a lot of Nigerians are generally skeptical about elections. Either due to fears of violence at the voting stations or just an assumption that "votes don't matter" because elections are always rigged, it seems it's generally easier to get people to protest than to vote. The tedious voter registration process doesn't help either.
    MI touched on a number of sensitive topics without mentioning "EndSARS" once. So I agree with you: It was intended to serve as a summary. A summary of the absolute shit show of a year (pardon my French) we had all just experienced (this came out in December). But in an upbeat positive manner.
    Meanwhile, thanks for trolling us at the end, you hear? 🙄😄
