See those holes on the very back flange? Those are for the bolts that attach the jet pipe and final nozzle that accelerates the exhaust gases to give the rated thrust of the engine. The books call it the jet nozzle. It will about double the thrust you are getting now, running the tail cone without the jet pipe and final nozzle assembly. It will add about 6 feet or more to the whole thing, but the jet pipe is just a cylinder, so you could bolt the nozzle straight to the tail cone. That's the kind of thing you would do, eh? That little engine will easily make that truck go over 200 mph. With a final nozzle. On the salt flats, not the roads...

From an aircraft mechanic, each and every one of those starts was a flame out and subsequent conditional inspection. (meaning intensive after a hazardous condition) Gotta spool before introducing fuel. No wonder they had leaks after the first few runs. I'm just glad that nothing went boom and everyone's safe. (except Seth, RIP) Titanium blades at 30,000+rpm do not fuck around when sent to mf low earth orbit.

@@benclifford692 Sure but we got a ton of regulations on cars. Apart from that you never get use the unlimited Highways as there are always construction sites or Traffic Jams. I think on average you cant go much faster than in the US. The only exception might be at night or in the early morning like that guy with his Chiron did.

@@mjtt12 Kei trucks are worth about $2K. They have extremely limited use and capability, almost no towing capacity, ridiculously bad handling, and horrible safety ratings. I don't even wanna go into the fact that you don't wanna spend more than an hour in one of these, while with a proper sized pickup truck you can take the whole family on a road trip in comfort. I never understood the fascination with these claustrophobic tiny death traps. Might as well buy a go kart. And I live in the EU btw, for me its proper sized real American trucks all the way.
HEY Cody. Just so you know i know its for fun and stuff but you should use duct work to rout air from the sides of the cabin to the inlet compressor. When you are at any kind of speed your power will be multiplied, because right now it is just scraping by on what air it can pull from around. Personaly I would use rectangular duct pipe for home use and have a s curve from each side with a decant opening like 3X12 inches. Have the whole thing enclosed you could in encorperat a roof scoop like you preposed in the video but for maximum power i think that would not be enough. So i would probably do roof and sides. you would have to relocate the fuel canister. and you could also paint it all red to blend in thing would be sick. Hope this helps!
I saw a Peterbuilt with 3 f14 jet engines.. the "Shockwave" the intake was the grill, and the cab was the duct. The driver was basically in the duct 😂 He could probably just remove the front and rear glass and wear a helmet..

I have the same exact M701 turbine in the back of my small pickup (its a V8 aussie ford falcon, about the size and design of a USA Ranchero or El Camino) You need to fit the nozzle. Without it, you're only getting about 1/3 of the power. You also need to get the intake into the airflow. The smoke is from using diesel. Your starts are terrible. Bring the turbine up to Max rpm on the starter (you're giving it 24 volts right?), turn on the igniter, then turn on the fuel. Keep the starter running for another 15 seconds to help the turbine spool up to idle speed. There should be minimal - zero flames out the exhaust when you start it I burn 20 litres a minute, with 80 litre fuel cell.

Nothing about it was safe. using jet engine on road especially with no breaks to handle such speed and weight is opposite of safe. That little truck even unmodified is unsafe on USA/EU roads it's designed for small villages in Japan where nothing bigger can fit on local roads and top speed of 30km/h. There is absolutely zero crash protection in it so if that jets throttle gets stuck everyone inside is dead meat. It may looked safe but it probably was most dangerous thing they did.

Looks like you don't know how to operate a jet engine, which is why it's smoking and throwing fire, or maybe you know and you were just doing it wrong to make a fun video, idk. But anyways, here are a few tips to operate a jet engine: First, the startup procedure: make sure the fuel is off and the throttle is at idle, under no circumstances should you open the throttle when starting the engine, or you'll just create a big flamethrower. Once you're sure everything is set for startup, turn on the igniters, wait around 10 seconds, and then turn on the starter motor. Wait until the engine revs up and stabilizes, typically between 10-20% NG depending on the engine, if you don't know the exact number, waiting longer is always better than waiting less. When it's stable, you can turn on the fuel and watch the ITT (internal turbine temperature), it should not enter the danger zone, the specific limit depends on the engine model. According to your dashboard note at 10:33 , it's 850 for your engine, if it reaches the maximum, you could damage the engine in just a few seconds (you might have already damaged it there), so, monitor the temperature closely, and if it approaches the limit, cut the fuel instantly. This situation is known as a "hot start," which is rare but can happen. Usually, it indicates insufficient airflow into the engine, if that happens, the next startup, leave more time before opening the fuel so the engine revs up more, and it's less time at low NG with the fuel on. When the NG percentage is over 50%, you can consider the engine on, and you can turn off both the starter and igniters. It should stay around 50-60% NG while idling. Wait about a minute for it to stabilize, after that, you can start playing with the throttle. When moving the throttle, ensure you don't overload the engine by keeping an eye on the NG, it should never exceed 110-115% for most turbines, moving it too quickly can easily overload an ungoverned engine, so be careful with the throttle. Also, monitor the temperature, it should never enter the danger zone (over 900 according to your dashboard note). Since this is a slower setup than the intended use of a turbine, it'll reach the danger zone quickly, so keep an eye on the temperature at all times and be ready to reduce the throttle. Don't worry too much about torque readings; you can't over-torque the turbine at car speeds. To avoid smoke, don't move the throttle too quickly, always take around 10 seconds to go from idle to max power (max power means around 110% NG, not fully opening the throttle), in an ungoverned turbine, you should never fully open the throttle on the ground if you want to avoid damaging the engine. That's why it was producing so much smoke, you overloaded it, which means the fuel didn't have enough time to burn, resulting in smoke. It's the same as in a diesel engine that's injecting more fuel than it can burn, leading to black smoke in the exhaust, which in a diesel truck can look cool, but in a turbine, you can seriously damage the combustion chambers. Shutdown procedure: wait around 30 seconds with the engine idling, and after that, simply turn off the fuel, it's as easy as that, there is no secret to shutting down a turbine. Other tips: Never turn the igniters on with the engine running, except in heavy rain when it's reducing the ITT too much, there is no reason to turn them on, it won't give you more power. When you shut it off, let it cool down about 10 minutes before starting it again. If you had cut the fuel for any reason, never open it again, you have to do all the starting procedure after letting the engine cool down. If you open the fuel again, it won't burn, and if you turn on the igniters with raw fuel in the combustion chamber, the engine can literally explode (it will be a fun way of destroying it, just saying). During startup, you generate a lot of heat, and if you don't wait for it to cool down for around 10 minutes, you could easily have a hot start. In this setup, it's complicated, but next time, try to ensure a clean air source for the jet engine intake. Don't place it on the bed of a truck just a few inches from the cab without good airflow, it will overheat more easily. You can add ducts to redirect air into the turbine when going at speed if there's no other place to install the engine. Remember that the more air the engine receives, the more power it will make without overloading. Also I don't know your engine model, but looks like you are missing the rear nozzle that accelerates the exhaust and it's what really makes the power, try finding one for your engine to have more trust, I'm almost sure it should have one. Knowing all this, you can have fun while being safe. You won’t smoke other cars, and that engine will last forever. Cheers from a turbine mechanic. Keep up the good content!

In your configuration what might look sweet is a wet motor while driving. SPARK OFF. Sends a 30 ft fog out the back depending on jet engine size. What you need is an exhaust shroud. Preferably open that opens and closes using fuel like the fighters of today.

The reason flames shooting out the back, is he doesn't know how to start that jet engine correctly. You suppose to turn off fuel, make sure throttle at idle, turn on igniters for a few seconds to warm up and give better chance of starting, then turn on starter let it spool up to RPM and then turn on fuel and starter will disengage and engine will run off fuel. Never turn up throttle when engine is spooling up. You effectively make a flame thrower that way and risk it actually exploding as well.

The problem is jet engines is not something you F around with, especially being no protection as literally out in the open on a mini truck. The merry go around was insane he messing around with not being around much longer. It way different and way more dangerous then the videos he done in the past. It may seem cool, but it won't be when one literally goes unbalanced on him when he near it. It literally worst then Fing around and waving carelessly with a loaded firearm Bring an A&P and engineer I seen the damage caused when one becomes unbalanced and explodes. Being the way he has it mounted out in the open, a very real chance if the turbine comes apart, it literally can seriously injure or do worse to someone that around it. At least his monster trucks they are mounted below, and he high up, and he drives it on his private land. This is way more dangerous as it mounted directly behind him on a thin mini truck out in the open on the back of the bed, nothing sheilding it, that likely won't protect him if that engine comes apart. Plus, he was driving it on a public road, which is an absolute huge NO as he risks someone that behind, or on the side of him. He likely assume it be no worse than the trucks and cars he regularly destroys, thinking he can walk away from it and be ok. Those jet engines are a whole other league of it own and just take one mistake and not even a mistake could be a crack you did see and you or someone around it not going to be able to walk from it. Don't mess around with something that beyond dangerous you don't fully understand and essentially bring out to a public road. That very careless & reckless at that point. Not to mention you can end up in prison if something goes very wrong as well if he survived it.

Not really. The classic non FADEC controlled jet engines you just spin really fast and pump fuel in to them. That is why they are so reliable, much less parts for control.

@@mjtt12 Kei trucks are worth about $2K. They have extremely limited use and capability, almost no towing capacity, ridiculously bad handling, and horrible safety ratings. I don't even wanna go into the fact that you don't wanna spend more than an hour in one of these, while with a proper sized pickup truck you can take the whole family on a road trip in comfort. I never understood the fascination with these claustrophobic tiny death traps. Might as well buy a go kart. And I live in the EU btw, for me its proper sized real American trucks all the way.
HEY Cody. Just so you know i know its for fun and stuff but you should use duct work to rout air from the sides of the cabin to the inlet compressor. When you are at any kind of speed your power will be multiplied, because right now it is just scraping by on what air it can pull from around.
Personaly I would use rectangular duct pipe for home use and have a s curve from each side with a decant opening like 3X12 inches. Have the whole thing enclosed you could in encorperat a roof scoop like you preposed in the video but for maximum power i think that would not be enough. So i would probably do roof and sides. you would have to relocate the fuel canister. and you could also paint it all red to blend in thing would be sick. Hope this helps!

I have the same exact M701 turbine in the back of my small pickup (its a V8 aussie ford falcon, about the size and design of a USA Ranchero or El Camino)
You need to fit the nozzle. Without it, you're only getting about 1/3 of the power. You also need to get the intake into the airflow. The smoke is from using diesel. Your starts are terrible. Bring the turbine up to Max rpm on the starter (you're giving it 24 volts right?), turn on the igniter, then turn on the fuel. Keep the starter running for another 15 seconds to help the turbine spool up to idle speed. There should be minimal - zero flames out the exhaust when you start it
I burn 20 litres a minute, with 80 litre fuel cell.
4 minutes of gas? Should be enough to go from one major city to the next.

Nothing about it was safe. using jet engine on road especially with no breaks to handle such speed and weight is opposite of safe. That little truck even unmodified is unsafe on USA/EU roads it's designed for small villages in Japan where nothing bigger can fit on local roads and top speed of 30km/h. There is absolutely zero crash protection in it so if that jets throttle gets stuck everyone inside is dead meat. It may looked safe but it probably was most dangerous thing they did.

Looks like you don't know how to operate a jet engine, which is why it's smoking and throwing fire, or maybe you know and you were just doing it wrong to make a fun video, idk.
But anyways, here are a few tips to operate a jet engine:
First, the startup procedure: make sure the fuel is off and the throttle is at idle, under no circumstances should you open the throttle when starting the engine, or you'll just create a big flamethrower. Once you're sure everything is set for startup, turn on the igniters, wait around 10 seconds, and then turn on the starter motor. Wait until the engine revs up and stabilizes, typically between 10-20% NG depending on the engine, if you don't know the exact number, waiting longer is always better than waiting less. When it's stable, you can turn on the fuel and watch the ITT (internal turbine temperature), it should not enter the danger zone, the specific limit depends on the engine model. According to your dashboard note at 10:33 , it's 850 for your engine, if it reaches the maximum, you could damage the engine in just a few seconds (you might have already damaged it there), so, monitor the temperature closely, and if it approaches the limit, cut the fuel instantly. This situation is known as a "hot start," which is rare but can happen. Usually, it indicates insufficient airflow into the engine, if that happens, the next startup, leave more time before opening the fuel so the engine revs up more, and it's less time at low NG with the fuel on.
When the NG percentage is over 50%, you can consider the engine on, and you can turn off both the starter and igniters. It should stay around 50-60% NG while idling. Wait about a minute for it to stabilize, after that, you can start playing with the throttle. When moving the throttle, ensure you don't overload the engine by keeping an eye on the NG, it should never exceed 110-115% for most turbines, moving it too quickly can easily overload an ungoverned engine, so be careful with the throttle. Also, monitor the temperature, it should never enter the danger zone (over 900 according to your dashboard note). Since this is a slower setup than the intended use of a turbine, it'll reach the danger zone quickly, so keep an eye on the temperature at all times and be ready to reduce the throttle.
Don't worry too much about torque readings; you can't over-torque the turbine at car speeds. To avoid smoke, don't move the throttle too quickly, always take around 10 seconds to go from idle to max power (max power means around 110% NG, not fully opening the throttle), in an ungoverned turbine, you should never fully open the throttle on the ground if you want to avoid damaging the engine. That's why it was producing so much smoke, you overloaded it, which means the fuel didn't have enough time to burn, resulting in smoke. It's the same as in a diesel engine that's injecting more fuel than it can burn, leading to black smoke in the exhaust, which in a diesel truck can look cool, but in a turbine, you can seriously damage the combustion chambers.
Shutdown procedure: wait around 30 seconds with the engine idling, and after that, simply turn off the fuel, it's as easy as that, there is no secret to shutting down a turbine.
Other tips:
Never turn the igniters on with the engine running, except in heavy rain when it's reducing the ITT too much, there is no reason to turn them on, it won't give you more power.
When you shut it off, let it cool down about 10 minutes before starting it again.
If you had cut the fuel for any reason, never open it again, you have to do all the starting procedure after letting the engine cool down. If you open the fuel again, it won't burn, and if you turn on the igniters with raw fuel in the combustion chamber, the engine can literally explode (it will be a fun way of destroying it, just saying).
During startup, you generate a lot of heat, and if you don't wait for it to cool down for around 10 minutes, you could easily have a hot start.
In this setup, it's complicated, but next time, try to ensure a clean air source for the jet engine intake. Don't place it on the bed of a truck just a few inches from the cab without good airflow, it will overheat more easily. You can add ducts to redirect air into the turbine when going at speed if there's no other place to install the engine. Remember that the more air the engine receives, the more power it will make without overloading.
Also I don't know your engine model, but looks like you are missing the rear nozzle that accelerates the exhaust and it's what really makes the power, try finding one for your engine to have more trust, I'm almost sure it should have one.
Knowing all this, you can have fun while being safe. You won’t smoke other cars, and that engine will last forever.

Also just an FYI most of the white smoke is under burnt fuel. In your configuration what might look sweet is a wet motor while driving. SPARK OFF. Sends a 30 ft fog out the back depending on jet engine size.
What you need is an exhaust shroud. Preferably open that opens and closes using fuel like the fighters of today.

The reason flames shooting out the back, is he doesn't know how to start that jet engine correctly.
You suppose to turn off fuel, make sure throttle at idle, turn on igniters for a few seconds to warm up and give better chance of starting, then turn on starter let it spool up to RPM and then turn on fuel and starter will disengage and engine will run off fuel.
Never turn up throttle when engine is spooling up. You effectively make a flame thrower that way and risk it actually exploding as well.

Bring an A&P and engineer I seen the damage caused when one becomes unbalanced and explodes. Being the way he has it mounted out in the open, a very real chance if the turbine comes apart, it literally can seriously injure or do worse to someone that around it. At least his monster trucks they are mounted below, and he high up, and he drives it on his private land. This is way more dangerous as it mounted directly behind him on a thin mini truck out in the open on the back of the bed, nothing sheilding it, that likely won't protect him if that engine comes apart. Plus, he was driving it on a public road, which is an absolute huge NO as he risks someone that behind, or on the side of him.
I don't think he fully knows the risk involved with messing around with those jet engines like he is. He likely assume it be no worse than the trucks and cars he regularly destroys, thinking he can walk away from it and be ok. Those jet engines are a whole other league of it own and just take one mistake and not even a mistake could be a crack you did see and you or someone around it not going to be able to walk from it. Don't mess around with something that beyond dangerous you don't fully understand and essentially bring out to a public road. That very careless & reckless at that point. Not to mention you can end up in prison if something goes very wrong as well if he survived it.

Too many things to list but out in the public roads was the most “this is over the line”. All the people behind him got hit with a cloud of smoke possibly causing a wreck behind him.
I generally don’t care at all when he is blowing up his land, it’s too far when you endanger others.

Let alone other ways to crash would be tires would likely pop due to heat generate going that fast or brakes would fail. That trucks not design for that period. It was different with his monster trucks as was built and modified, and someone thought it out well enough. That mini truck is not even close and he end up hurting, or worst to someone, or himself.

Not really. The classic non FADEC controlled jet engines you just spin really fast and pump fuel in to them. That is why they are so reliable, much less parts for control.
