Aoi did really well here.. she smiled so bright and danced with energy, but the others outshined her. The stylists are also terrible at dressing the centers. Only the Sorry Not Sorry center (Eunbi) was actually dresses in a way that stands out from the rest. ~Reminds me of S2 when Yongguk was center but Daniel looked like one instead.
She had a different outfit than everyone else, yet the plainest, that’s why she was outshone. C’mon Mnet, I know you didn’t want her as center but geez.
I feel like its not actually the outfit that makes one look like the center. Its actually the aura and how one carries himself on stage. If they fit the aura the song is calling for then it would make them stanf out as center. For example in Open Up stage, Daniel looked like the center because he fit the sexy image very well and Yongguk just lacked the confidence and aura Daniel had. And Full Moon stage, while Pinky has the only white outfit, Chaeyeon looked like the center because she embodied the song mysterious and just a little bit of sexy. Chaeyeon even had the plainest outfit on stage. For a center, clothes don't matter. Its the aura they have.
Pd48's stylists were really something (in negative way). Aoi's wasn't the only one. Remember I Am team and their I-don't-have-anything-else-to-wear costumes? And if you look at the dress rehearsal of Instruction team, they dressed Son Eunchae with stupid stuffs. And they also deadass gave Miyu twintails + loose blouse for Dasimanna

I just realized that the Produce series gave such good opportunities to the Japanese candidates. Yes, they are naturally cute but I also feel like the jpop market pushes cutesy concept on their idols more than anything, I have not really seen j-idols experiment with their image or concept as much as the k-pop industry does. I binged all performances and am genuinely so happy for the Japanese girls, loved to see them try new concepts and some of them suit other concepts so damn well
I know this is a 11 month old comment and you may have explored J-idols more since this was written, but cute concepts haven't been pushed in the mainstream in Japan for a long time now. The biggest groups in the mainstream the past 7 years are the Sakamichi groups and Wack groups who exclusively don't do cute concepts at all, and even the 48 groups have always been diverse with the concepts they do. This "Japanese idols only do cute concepts" thing is really just an old stereotype based off the early AKB songs that garnered attention outside Japan like Heavy Rotation and Koisuru Fortune Cookie. Other companies have always had a focus on diverse concepts, some of the bigger ones being Hello!Project and Stardust Promotion.
I honestly don't know why Sae ended up getting the bonus points. In this team alone it's Cho Yeon's dancing and Aoi's energy that really carried this team. Mako is a solid 3rd imo. And then even outside of this team, to say she did the best out of everyone in the dance category is just ??? when there was Miru, Chaeyon, Ha Eun; Sae is pretty good but not 5000+ points good.

Soooo sad about Aoi. I didn't even know who she was before they released all the fancams for this mission but when I watched hers I thought she did the best. Can't believe she placed last after killing it as a center and helping with the choreo, and now she's probably gonna get eliminated next episode :(
I think we have the advantage of seeing aoi close through the video but I can imagine in a live show where many people are watching from afar, they just notice the most visually appealing person even if the dance is just so-so. Having big movements and great expressions will also help get attention from live audiences. Aoi's height, small stature, and that damn costume that blends with the background, made her not so noticeable in the eyes of the live audience.

Chenisaur I think everyone in this group got stage charisma here, I love looking at all of them but it's not like Sae shines the most, especially out of all the girls in the dance group to win. And like tell me where's the so called charisma in Minju in her group performance where she obviously lack of confidence or how Chaeyeon didn't rank higher in her group if the onsite voting is all about the stage charisma while performing.
The best one here is choyeon and mako. Sae probably won because of her aegyo during her introduction, some part of her center part is so awkward, but she got some nice stares tho

옷보다는 조명의 문제 같아요.. 쏘리낫쏘리에서도 권은비만 검은 옷이었는데 그 땐 조명이 빨개서 흑백의 차이가 선명히 보였는데, 여긴 아오이가 카키 섞인 갈색 계열 옷인데 조명이나 배경이 붉은 계열일 때가 많아서 묻히는 거 같아요..
쏘낫쏘는 통일된 디자인에 색의 대비를 줘서 혼자 까매도 잘 보이는데 여기는 옷 스타일이며 색이 다 다른데 혼자 어두운데다 조명까지 저러니까 아오이 하나도 안보여요ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
