I always interpreted this to be that his best friend and their music saves Tyler from "crashing and burning." Oh and Blurryface was driving the car for a bit in this video. Blurryface is Tyler's....alterego so to speak, Tyler's darkside. Oh and the yellow road lines have some meaning for the next album.

Loving your TOP reactions! The drum set was not supposed to catch on fire, but it did! Yes, they used to use a rabbit in dog racing! I love that line “Death inspires me like a dog inspires a rabbit.” I own two Redbones and a Foxhound, and critters do get inspired quickly! 😂 So many of their songs have such upbeat beats, yet deep dark meaningful lyrics. You can bebop to it yet when you stop to listen to the lyrics, it’s like wow, how can I be rocking out to this?!?! They have not made a bad song yet. I know I'm almost a year late and someone else probably already said it but I believe in an interveiw or behind the scenes they said Josh's drums catching fire was an accident but they rolled with it cuz it looked cool
As someone who's been listening to them for a long time, it's fun to see someone's first impressions on their songs/videos. Keep them coming! twenty one pilots has been such a huge inspiration to me and my music, so it's been awesome seeing them grow over the years and it's great to see people still discovering them to this day.
There's a behind the scenes video of making this mv, but I don't recall they would have told about what happened to the drums. Tyler fights with the will to end his pain but also he wants to live, he runs from death by using his pain to make music. He asks God to save his soul. Also some say the car is Tyler's life, the driver is Blurryface at some times, who is a character from this era. (hence the album name) He is all of Tyler's bad sides, anxiety, depression, insecurities, etc. The fire spreading from the car to Josh drums, he is also affected from Tyler's issues. And we see Josh drumming and the beats brake down the car and allows Tyler to jump out before the car crashes. And yes, Blurryface is driving the car, and then the car has no driver, and Tyler is left alone, with his life feeling out of control. Until the music saves him.

Cuz it would be really hard to understand the storyline. i'll give you a bit of explanation, to let you understand the meanings behind lyrics and video (attention - a lot of words lol) Blurryface - main character in the album, that represents Tyler's (singer and songwriter) insecurities. Obviously it's Tyler's alter-ego. Tyler usually wears black paint on his hands and neck during his live shows and music videos for the album to represent Blurryface and his insecurities. How he is not sure in his music in general ( hands - music instruments, songwriting. neck - words, voice). Nico (man in red from the Jumpsuit mud video)- blurryface physical form, main bishop in the Trench album. Dema - represents a psychological place (city) in "Tylers head" (or ours as well) where Blurryface has jurisdiction over him, which means a place where your insecurities start to control you. Trench is the place in-between this control and "freedom" . Banditos - a rebel organization who rescue people trapped in Dema and trying to help people "Leave The City" of Dema, fight their insecurities and depression (obviously - TOP fans). Keep your attention to the colours Red - blurryface era (depression, insecurities, bishops) Yellow - trench era (hope, support, family, friends) about the video: heavydirtysoul - In this video blurryface is driving Tyler to Dema while repeatedly trying to kill Josh(drummer) who is trying to stop the car(pay attention to little details like color of Josh hair). While those hard drumming - it helps Tyler to take some control of this car , cuz with every hit of drums - car is start to fall over. At the last minute Tyler takes whole control again and saves Josh, but Josh's drums are still catching fire from the begging, because Tyler's problems affected everyone around him even if he doesn't want to... And after the car catches fire and Tyler beats blurryface - it starts all over again the next day... A constant loop of hurting the people you love because of your inner demons. Now some people believe the car also represents the whole blurryface album and it blows up at the end to symbolize the end of the era and beginning of the Trench.
You have to check out their live version at The Fox Theater. It's amazing! Actually, that entire concert is a must see! I'm seeing them twice next month. First smaller venue then to the bigger one. So excited!

I think you are switched on enough to pick up the gist of the storyline through these but people will fill you in in the comments though I’d prefer to see an honest interpretation with out too much back story - then you can be mind blown after when you realise how it all connects.
