Man Max coming in at 17 years old is just mind boggling. I need to get my life in order
He had daddy’s money tho. Something i and you probably don’t have and he has an easier career than most I wanna opt for aviation with out daddy’s money it’s hard
It’s mad that Verstappen was just about to get into Redbull 7 years ago when he’s still so young.
He's the one job offers refer to when they put 'must have 5 yrs experience, must be a baby'
It's also weird to realize that both Gasly and Albon, who came in as unexperienced teammates to a Verstappen who was already an established RBR driver, are 1,5 years older.
I find it hilarious that Nyck was the same age 7 years ago as his current fellow rookies...
Time passes and Verstappen's history becomes more insane. 7 years ago, already in F1, and younger than everyone else when they entered F1. Heck, F2's Theo Pouchaire(the supposed next golden child) is already older than 16's Verstappen and didn't even make it to F1 yet.
Yuki’s move between categories is really fast, the fact he succeeded so quickly after debuting in those feeder series shows his raw talent! 2016 was the year he caught Satoru Nakajima’s attention, which helped him stay in professional racing 😊
Who would’ve thought in the video 3 years ago that this video wouldn’t have Ricciardo in it
Yes, fast forward three months and Dani Ric is back on the grid so should have been included. 2016 was one fantastic world title competition and Dani R finishing P3 well ahead of Max V.
Would love to see a kinda reverse version of this, like where are the drivers of 2010 now? Would be cool to see after this video was a banger
Kubica managed a p2 in lmp2 this year
But man said it Himself that his life after the accident is just a little extra bit of a movie after the credits
Hey @Tommo would it be interesting to have a reverse video of this about what some of the drivers have been up to since leaving F1 (kimi, rosberg, kuyviat etc)
Its crazy Lando is only a year older than Oscar
This video was incredibly informative and fun to watch! Love these, can't wait for the next one in a few years!
13:36 It was Bottas 4th season in F1 (2013,2014,2015,2016) not many people remember, but he even finished P3 in 2013 Canadian GP Qualificiation
Okay what I'm about to say is with Regards to the Lance Stroll section. Honestly, I feel like Prema tax is an unfair excuse to use. That's literally like saying Charles Leclerc, Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly and Oscar Piastri (sorry if I've missed anyone else) only won their respective titles because they were in Prema. If anything, not performing or not winning a title with them should also be a forefront factor in degrading a driver's résumé. I don't like to do that, especially after watching your The Last Lap podcast with FNG and Alex Jacques and considering all aspiring f1 drivers have had to CTRL ALT DELETE their childhoods. However we need to have some level of equality. So if we're going to say Lance won on Prema tax, then so did everyone I mentioned earlier and maybe more. Or we add Lance to the list of hyped feeder series champions, especially those that won their titles with Prema Racing
On the face of it, that may seem harsh. But I've heard many rumours from many different sources that there was a lot more to Lance's junior career than meets the eye. From completely fresh components after every session, extra testing, etc etc. It's all hearsay, but there's no smoke without fire IMO. 🤷♂️

Don't subscribe to hearsay and rumors, we might as well watch sky sports instead at that point.
I can't believe nico hulkenburg became a world champion with mercedes before retiring in 2016 and the guy doesn't even have any podiums
Lando is the 4th youngest driver on the grid. That is insane to think about
Mental that max will forever have that record of being the youngest and done so well at the time too 🤯
2016 was already 7 years ago? wow
that was the year when i started watching f1
minton must be the channel mascot. Always wanting to get in somewhere. I absolutely love it. I absolutely love your videos also Tommo. Always find them so interesting. Keep it up mate.
From Clanfield, Hampshire
TOMMO WE NEED MORE VIDEOS, need more f1 content during this break
Really puts into perspective how little experience Yuki has had before going to F1 and people still wanna write him off lmao.
One thing you forgot the mention was that Esteban Ocon was in DTM in 2016
Funny that the 2020 video got rerecommended to me yesterday. I was thinking that was a great video idea glad to see you agree!
This was a great video, really interesting. I've been watching F1 from way before 2016...and you are right, I had completely forgotten that Kmag drove for Renault!
I still can’t believe that 2016 was 7 years ago! 7 years! That’s insane
I swear yesterday that previous video showed on my yt page and I started wondering if you will do another one. Thank You!
This retrospective list pretty much seals all hope of getting my son into motorsport.
I was here for the last one, nice Tommo,
Plus best 'Botwel ow warra' (bottle of water) meme said unironically and authenticly I've heard this year
I’m sorry but that editing at the start of the sponsorship, OOOOOO!!!!!!!! Nailed it 100% just clean editing with 2x tommo on my screen
Oscar looks so young it’s so interesting and it makes me feel so old ahhhhh
@@TommoOnTH-cam Well your not wrong but he acts more mature than his team mate but that's just my opinion
I remeber that my karting mechanic from 2013-2014 was working for Oscar Piastri back in 2016. Crazy how fast time passes by.
Great video, good text design, so it's noticeable and interesting to read! Thanks
2016 is 7 years ago, thanks Tommo for making me think back to the classic days! (1990s and 2000s)
I'll never forget KMag in Renault just for Spa that year where his headrest yeeted itself off after his massive crash
That was so interesting, especially for someone like me who joined the sport in 2020 and to this day obviously doesn’t know the entire history of every driver🙏🏻
Crazy how 9 drivers (if you include Ocon) were in F1 7 years ago. Damn a lit can change, and yet a lot can stay the same.
15:40 "Oscar Pastry" SENT ME
Great vid nonetheless :)
Ocon raced in DTM in 2016 :)
yuer hats are always on point
A lot of people seem to forget Valtteri joined F1 in 2013 so 2016 was actually his 4th year with Williams
HITC Seven vibes. Love it
14:8 bro said Nico hulkenberg hahahaxd
Was it just the top 8 into Q3 in 2016? I don't remember that.
this was ppretty much the time i started watching f1
Yeah.. we need an update on this one
I still remember Australia 2016 where Lewis in his rocket ship was stuck behind Max in the Torro Rosso for quite some laps (i beleive after a shitty start) and complained on the radio: 'I can't pass this guy'
Ah yes, 2016 Formula One World Champion, Nico Hülkenberg. 😂 Happens to the best of us
Those shoes in the back... are they pink? I'm looking for a nice design with some pink in it
Tommo finally has a sponsor other than Squarespace!
Wtf I just got recommanded on YT the video that you posted 3 years ago. I saw it and thought you should make another one with the current grid.
Tommo went on a comment responding streak today i see, great vid as always
I feel like this video would have worked better, if you grouped the drivers by series and then talked about their individual years, it would have given us better context to what they accomplished.
Also it seems like you forgot to mention, but Ocon wasn't just the Renault reserve , he was also doing DTM in the 1st half of 2016. And as much as Renault deserves some flack for their 2016 season, the team they bought back was in absolute shambles and it wasn't just them underperforming for no reason.
2016 was Bottas' fourth season at Williams, his first was 2013
Oscar, Yuki and Logie bear were all so cute in 2016.
0:16 "-Get some hÖ'höarr"
David Land was also sponsored by Hello Fresh... Do I sense a collab? Haha would love to see, although while Tommo is more the entertainer, David is more a journalist...
Sidenote: Andy Priaulx's son Seb currently races in GT racing.
Stroll did so well in F3 that he was in F1 the next season, sounds familiar?
As someone who's been an F1 fan since I became sentient, It lowkey gave me an existential crisis when over the past few years new drivers just started being younger than me.
great video! quick question... has anyone ever told you that you look like liam payne's long-lost brother?
Tommo: This will be a long one so get comfortable get your water
Me and people who are fasting: 😑😐 are we a joke
Remember in 2016 Renault had just taken over the almost dead Lotus team. So the 2016 car was mainly what Lotus put together with some string and milk bottle caps.
Yeah this is true. Although Lotus finished P6 in the constructors for 2015. Scored points in the last race of that season too.
@@TommoOnTH-cam In 2015 Lotus had the Mercedes engine, which in the 2014-2016 period gave a large advantage over the Renault, Ferrari and Honda powered teams.
If you only look at Mercedes powered teams Lotus was the slowest. So when Renault put their worse engine in they went from the slowest Mercedes powered car in 2015 to one of the slowest cars in F1 for 2016.
8 years ago in 2015 (yes I know not 2016 but it’s relevant and I need to tell this to people that might vaguely think its cool) I was sitting in oscar's go kart at one of his events when he was 13
2016 was 7 years ago....I'm checking myself into a nursing home.
in hindsight kmags career would have panned out so much better if he remained at renault
Do a video on Rio Haryanto haven't heard anything ab him since manor
@3:26 I even made a video about that crash. My best video ever. :)
Man can't believe that Nico hulkenberg retired in 2016
Wow! It’s Oscar Pastryyy! 😂
loved how you changed history, hulkenberg retired (it was rosberg) bottas did 4 not 3 seasons at williams (last was 2016)
is no one talking abt the fact that he has a vid not sponsored by square space
You're making me feel old with that intro 😭😭😭
I refuse to believe that 2016 was 7 years ago
What happened to the legendary Squarespace sponsorship😭😭
Thank god the Halo saved Alonso's life in Australia that year.. In retroactivity..
15:39 "Oscar Pastry"
Gicgachadolonso can almost say to everyone on the grid: I was winning world championship when you still wet your pants "
