    All good advice bro! I feel it’s very important to have a supportive spouse/significant other to encourage you,it made a huge difference to me. I couldn’t do this without my wife’s help and support. Even my grown daughter will help me on a big job if I need help! That’s a support system I know I can count on.

    Worked with my dad for acouple years. Work as an Automation Tech fulltime and school full time and handyman work on the side. Work out of the back of my new bmw x5. Get a lot of funny looks pulling tools out of it and people telling me I'll wreck a nice car haha. But in the cities there is way too much money to make doing handyman work, it hurts to miss out on the jobs you are offered. And best part is you can pick and choose what to do. I am all referral. Did two jobs and a hundred people heard so am booked for months.

    I currently have an unlicensed and uninsured handyman business. I'm deciding if I want to become my own LLC or if I want to wait on that and be a contractor working for other handyman LLCs. I've been doing this full-time all of 2020, and I was part-time for spare change during 2019. During 2020 I began purchasing all the tools, so now I have everything I need to be successful (but I am in debt because of that which was suggested against, I know I know I'm not gonna go further in debt $600 to buy this router and table and bits, I promise ;) ). Thank you for this video, actually very helpful and encouraging.

Big difference between pro painting and a maintenance painter. And you were talking about weather or not to go into debt from the start...you have to pay money to make money. So yeah you don’t want crazy debt but you have to invest some money into it.....(just my thoughts). Good video

    Honestly Lee, I'm 60 years old and want to retire soon I have about 400 clients that I would like to refer to someone whose competent. I built up my business over the last 20 years from Simply repairing fences 2 fixing my dentist x-ray machine working on radar and sonar at the yacht clubs restaurants food processing plants and a myriad of other businesses. I'm more interested in leaving my clients in good hands and working so much. I have too much work and now feel like the business owns me instead of the other way around. I would like some names of competent handyman in the Sacramento area that I might be able to refer my clients to. I need people that are good at carpentry electrical drywall Roofing concrete appliance repair lighting and other things that handyman get asked to do. Can you recommend someone? It'll probably be more than one cuz I don't know that many people, in fact I don't know anyone,who does all the stuff that I get into?

      What an interesting post, Alex. Tell me more about how you stumbled into those more interesting trades

    • @aehamilton7
      @aehamilton7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1dgrdgr it's a long story, I call it my misspent youth.
      It all really started when my own fence fell over and the neighbor and I decided to fix it ourselves. While doing that job I was approached by one of my neighbors that had a fence down at a rental property and asked if I'd be interested in doing that, I said sure. Wall fixing that fence I was approached by two other people asking if I would fix their fence. As strange As It Seems every job I did lid to one or two more jobs and just like that I was building fences every weekend and started digging myself out of my financial hole. And while I was still building fences I started gut getting asked could I fix this or could I fix that, I would simply reply I'll take a look. It's a far cry from fixing fences to working on radar sonar and x-ray machines. Everything I looked at I seem to be able to fix so I started getting asked to look at it progressively harder more interesting jobs. Somehow the people I work for believe I can fix anything but that's not true. I work on lots of industrial equipment at food processing plants and restaurants in other businesses but every now and then I look at stuff and think to myself that I really don't know anything about that and I should probably pass on it but most everything I look at and the problems are obvious burnt wires damaged connections circuit boards that are discolored. If you're given opportunities and try giving it your best effort you'll find your successful most of the time. There are some stories where things didn't go well and when they don't you have to make it right for the customer. Additionally, if I can't fix something I don't charge people for it it becomes a learning experience for me and it didn't cost them anything for me to obtain it. If you had told me 10 years ago what I would be doing now I never would have believed it. I watch a lot of videos on TH-cam to learn how to do things and just because they're interesting sometimes. I thought about making videos myself but I'm not really confident at doing the filming thing it looks like there's quite a bit of work that goes behind the scenes to get your camera setup in to edit out all the bad parts and things like that but it would be nice to pass on the knowledge to others that might find it useful.
