    I appreciate you not only cutting everything together but also going back-and-forth in time to let the story flow a bit better - huge props!
    This story really shows Kiara is not German - one Uber cancels on you and you are late immediatly? Many Germans would still be half an hour early after all that.

      The story is totally not Germany. First, there's no Uber in most of Germany. Second, the driver would have been on strike instead of cancelling. Then, before she can use the e-scooter, she would need to make 3 separate appointments with the Rathaus to fill in the paperwork. Then her e-scooter would get stolen in those 2 hours, and she would have to call the company to tell them what happened so that she wouldn't get charged indefinitely until she returns the stolen e-scooter.

    • @7shinta7

      As a German I feel called out here. ^^"
      I either would've made an Uber reservation beforehand (if possible), taken a taxi or included enough time to make the rest of the way on foot and still be on time. The only thing i hate more than others beeing late is beeing late myself. So I personally fit that stereotype pretty well.
      But I also have a lot of friends that don't care if they're late.
      But to be fair:
      Kiara seemed to have planned with a fair amount of time. She just was pretty unlucky with the Ubers.
      And her solution was good, too. It's just a shame that the e-scooter did stop working before she could return it.

      The "punctual germans" meme is such a stereotype from 50 years ago. In my experience nothing in germany is ever on time. That includes trains, busses and taxis.

    When I lived in a dorm in college, those e-scooters where around every spring and summer. I absolutely HATED them, because people parked them so obnoxiously on the sidewalk, they were always in the way of pedestrians.

      Yeah for real, the people who use them tend to be the most entitled asswipes on Earth. Here in the states some places have a problem with people getting run over cause people on e-scooters would run red lights with them and then if they somehow managed to survive that they have the audacity to try and blame the motorists for not yielding.

    Another episode of Tenchous tangents!!! *YAAAY*
    Thank you once again for walking the maze that is Kiaras train of thought and bringing us the story in one comprehensible clip. ^^
    To fully appreciate the work you put into these, we would need a timer in the background that shows all the back and forth jumps and cuts you had to make to piece together the video. But then again, you are the madlad that did full on documentaries with months spanning streams from different perspectives, so this here is probably a piece of cake for you.
    Anyway, thanks again for your great work, Kowkarot. :D
    EDIT:
    I just noticed that the guy who had to wait for Tenchou actually was pretty wholesome. He didn't mind that he had to wait but scolded her for not wearing a helmet. Seems like a caring dad like type. ^^

    I've been thinking after a few of Kiara's Uber stories that she really should just get some sort of PEV. Nobody deserves to be treated the way Uber treats her.
    Also I bought an electric unicycle at the beginning of the year and once I learned to ride it (takes about a week) I've been loving every moment of it. Given how much it costs her to get around via Uber, a PEV would probably pay for itself in 6-7 months.
    [edit]The Escooter chaos is so trademark Kiara, I love it and I hope she never changes.

    One practice that Uber, Cabify, DiDi, Beat, etc. drivers are using is to charge in cash (no credit card) and more than the estimated amount. It has happened to me today and to several close friends.

  • @SushiKishi
    @SushiKishi ปีที่แล้ว

    I was at DreamHack Atlanta for a speedrunning event and as soon as we land, as SOON as we land, an old neck injury from being a CNA flared up and I am in immense pain. Awful. Suffer through it to check into my room and call around for a local physical therapist to see if they can squeeze me in. They can like right away which is amazing, but no time for an Uber and it’s both close AND there’s a scooter near my room. I live in the sticks so delivery at all doesn’t exist much less Uber much less an e-scooter. First trip goes super smooth. And even better, PT fixes my neck pain. Not like I feel better, my neck was always a little sore every day back then. But I leave totally pain free. Like “oh no did that pop mean my neck snapped and I’m paralyzed? No? This is just now my neck is supposed to feel?” Have not felt that good in literally years.
    Take the scooter back to my room. Was uphill to PT so going back is, of course, downhill. Lose control and try to throw on brakes to avoid colliding with a van, instead flip myself over the handlebars and if I don’t break my fall with my hands my head would have hit pretty hard. Never told my mom how bad that almost was! Look up and it was a freaking Comcast Van I was trying to avoid hitting. Freakin’ Comcast.
    That’s not the end of the story though. I’m pretty scuffed up and I didn’t pack a first aid kit for my trip so I gotta get to a pharmacy to get some bandages. I’ve got a video game to play somewhat competitively against the clock and my palms are, well, not as bad as I thought but I need some padding to hold a controller. My scooter is kaput obviously so I call an Uber to a CVS. The driver first asks if OK then upon hearing my story proceeds to clown my ass laughing all the way to the CVS. We picked up a passenger on the way and he tells them what happened too. Like it’s funny now bro but you ain’t gotta do me like that lololol
    Bandaging your own hands is hard by the way, I got to the event later that day and the security guard send me straight to their first aid station to get it done right, didn’t even let me in lol

    what a sucky situation with the uber and the e-scooter, unfortunate situation. On the other hand, 14min leeway is not very early for somewhere you've never been before, is it? I also heard 40 originally and I would've been fuming too if that was the case.

    The reason Uber drivers cancel on you is they are gaming the system - they will accept rides from multiple services (Lyft/Uber/etc). Then they are gambling that the user cancels the ride so they don't get any penalties.
    Often I will accept an uber then they just wait around a parking lot, or go backwards, waste your time for 10 minutes. The trick is NOT to cancel, but to open another app and call their bluff.
    I've also seen drivers use GPS spoof to teleport their car away in an effort to get me to cancel. They also call me and ask where I'm going, etc

  • @ceresbane
    @ceresbane 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    See this is why I always account for the going on foot option. If something is within 1 hour of walking I'll plan to walk just in case stuff goes wrong. So I'll make the journey on foot and try to save time with any alternatives on the way. Like buses and trains and etc.
    Ubers are kinda bad if you're not in a major city. Its always better to use an official taxi company over ubers in smaller areas.
    But basically if I manage to get transport imma be early. If I can't I'll simply be on time. Thats how I always plan my trips towards appointments.
