Glad to see a valve enlarged properly, the last time I had a set of 1.94-1.60's installed in a set of 305H.O. heads, they only cut the seats, and that was it, it actually hurt the flow! By putting more valve over the small port throats, if I didn't disassemble them to clean and upgrade springs I'd never known I was ripped off! I know 1.94-1.60 isn't that much larger than the 1.84-1.50" stock valves, but shrouding makes 2.02" are somewhat undesirable in those heads, valve shrouding and all.. nice work, I'd love to do t he at kind of work, I'd almost pay to work in a shop like this, I love working metal!

Olds makes great castings. I saw a 350 that was run so hot that all the valve springs literally collapsed and the oil turned to tar. The heads and block had no cracks - just moderate warpage of the heads. After that brutal overheat the engine came back to life with just a rebuild of the heads and some gaskets.

That is amazing. Usually when I see someone do that, it destroys the heat treatment on the piston rings, and then the engine can't hold compression.

That is the best valvejob ive ever seen. how much hp increase would such a modification do?

I was expecting him to install powder metal or stellite valve seats. Thought valve seats needed heat treating. Olds head must be premium casting.

I suppose stainless valve seats inserted would not have been an option because of the spacing (lack of material)between the valves? nice video,..and to see a craftsman at work btw

Most seat/guide work is done dry, Just doesn't need any lubrication.

Nice clean Job...did you mention the head diameters...? Im fitting my 324 Rocket castings with a 11/32 stem 1.94 intake and a 1.600 exhaust....Your bowl hogger would have saved me a lot of work....👍

The tool hes using to bore the hole looks like a ground carbide blank. If it is you wouldn't really want to use coolant as its just going to cause little tiny thermal shocks. In any event carbide or HSS it doesnt look like hes running more than 100 SFM for either cutting process and coolant in videos often makes it harder to see and just generally gets on the camera and makes a mess. Hes not running enough SFM for it to really heat buildup and excessively wear the tool.

Hi. You don't like to use lubricant with your metal cutting tools?

You must be wise to the ways of the Oldsmobile?
Would I be able to machine my #6 heads to use valves from the 400(2.00" intake 1.62" exhaust)?
I see a lot of people adapting valves intended for the 455 (2.07" Intake 1.68" exhaust). They seem slightly over kill for the street engine I am building.
Very fine difference ,I know ,but as they say ,"Results are all in the details."

Can you cut valves on a bridgeport? If so do you know if they make standard tooling for common engines?

Wow! It sounds like *everything* is so out of round. Even when you went in to deburr it sounded like it was cutting you another center! Is that normal ?

Most ports are shaped like a sideways funnel and even the best ports arent symmetrical.

now it wants a tidy in from the bowl into the port and the chambers balanced
nice job on the seats tho

looks like quite a bottle neck at edge of combustion chambers for the bigger valves, any way to open that up or would it fail on gasket?
