This was inspiring. The craftsmanship that goes into projects like this is on another level. I wish i had skills like this. To make something beautiful out of nothing.
This is really impressive. It is very true to the art and craftsmanship of a genuine Finnish puukko, and especially to its heritage. Skill is one thing, but expressing an appreciation of the cultural significance is another level. Respect.
Very very well done. I really love the attention and drive put into making all fittings. The finished product is stunning but also looks like it calls to be used in the wild:)
That is a seriously beautiful knife. To say it is your first attempt at a puuko is astonishing. Brother, I would be proud to have a knife half as good as that in my collection.
Your craftsmanship is stunning! I am definitely going to use this for reference and inspiration for my next puukko style build. Even for other knife builds, there are things here I have learned and can apply. Thank you for sharing and teaching!
@@RustLegion I'm currently making my way through your videos. Your a skilled craftsman, especially loved your sausage knife hahha great stuff. You've got a sub from me sir keep up the great work.

This looks fantastic. Even though the decoration on the sheath is simple, it's still very beautiful and stylish. Great job and keep em coming. The part where you heat the knife, before quenching is like a movie: 2:00 - 2:08
Im from finland where the puukko knife is used and its really nice to see videos that are related to finland and finlands traditional items. You succesfully made beautiful modern knife while keeping the traditional puukko look.
Thank you very much. I have big respect and fascination with Finnish knives. So many beautiful designs and very practical. I still have much to learn but I'm glad you like it :)
I have plans to make a Puukko in the near future, and wanted to say the things you did here were so amazing. Not only a GREAT knife, but your leather and brass work are so nice!! Subscribed!
Greetings from Finland👋 I love the videos you make and it is su fun people to make knives like ours (I would say you did it better than us here in Finland😅)
Thank you :) I am very happy to hear that someone from Finland liked my puukko :) I am big fan of all puukko knives - modern puukko, saami puukko , Kauhava , Rautalampi , Kokemaki and so much more that I don't even know the names. It is simple and functional knife and at the same time very beautiful. Sending my best regards from Bulgaria :)
"After watching 2 million times the Kauhava puukko video I decided to make one" We've all been there... well, except 99% of us don't have forges so the thoughts will remain a fantasy.
I use wood liners for my puukko sheaths. Here I put leather welt to protect the thread from the edge. Also there is a bit of space between the sheath and the blade so it doesn't cut it :)
Excellent work, very very beautiful, slightly longer blade than most I have seen, which I personally prefer, the only gripe I always had was the odd looking short blade, yours is exactly what I like.👍👍👍👍👍So there you have it size matters.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you sir , yes the original model is 100 mm blade and mine is 125 mm. I would like to make one in the original size too but sure this one is very useful for more serious tasks :)
Thank you sir , these brass sheet elements were indeed test for my patience :) I still have much to improve and now I respect the work of the old craftsmen even more :)
Awesome work! If you want to make similar(ish) puukkos in the future the Kalajokilaakso, Rautalammi and the 19th-centuty foundry puukkos (Fiskars and Hackman) are worth checking out. Anssi Ruusuvuori has made a fantastic and quite comprehensive book on puukkos, it even has some obscure puukko-types included. I think you would find it interesting/useful, but I'm not sure if it's available in english (there's a german version though).
Today I found your channel and been marathoning it, you're good! If I may ask you a question: I see you use various techniques for cutting brass plate, wich one is your favorite and wich one you despise?
Hi sir well what can eney one say that is lvly pice of work sir 👍👍for your first atempt wow👍👍wow amazing sir i lv it keep that work comeing be proud of your self sir god🙏bless buddi lv out to you all dino in uk 🛸
Outstanding craftsmanship! I'm sorry, if you said it, I missed it. What type carbon steel did you use for the blade? Instead of making a "dummy" knife, couldnt you wrap the actual knife in plastic food wrap instead to form the sheath?
I used k510 steel , also known as silversteel or 1.2210 . I made a dummy knife because I had to wrap the brass brace around it and I was afraid that it will damage the birch bark. I guess it can be done without it but I decided to follow the Kustaa Lammi video.
Yes of course , at 2:00 you can see that I heat it and quench it in oil. I didn't show the tempering because it's not very exciting to watch. 2 cycles x 1 hour at 200C (400F)
Вітаю. Гарний ніж. Такими ножами горді фінські хлопці в 1940 році чималу кількість московських терористів відправили на концерт кобзона...Мабуть варто знову повторити !
Thank you , I'm from Bulgaria. I guess you ask me because of the can of olive oil that I use like quenching tank :) Another Greek guy asked me the same because of it :D
Yes it is. Around 4.7 mm thick at the base and tapers towards the point. The whole knife is larger than the typical kauhava puukko (or similar models) . In future I plan to make smaller model with 10cm blade instead of 12 and thinner blade (around 4 mm)
