Being able to position the light source at the top or the bottom of the scrim is also a nice possibility. Just feather it slightly so the rest of the scrim gets some light too. Lots of control over the shape and density of the shadows this way.
Great video amazing what you can do with one head and a roll of tracing paper,i would'nt recommend you plug your camera straight to flash pack it could fry you electrics unless you,ve got a hot sync adaptor on your camera
There’s a hazy light on eBay right now for £150.....but I don’t know where the hell id put it 😅 I think a roll of scrim and my first c-stand will be a better use of my money right now!
Hi! - thanks for sharing your knowledge . I need some help, I have only one continuous light (Godox SL150w) and I need to buy one softbox . Between a parabolic softbox, octagon or rectangular softbox , which one would you recommend if I can buy just one ? (All of them about 120cm) . I would really appreciate your help!!
I use some scrim material that is akin to the white material on the front of softboxes, I have not used tracing paper, but I see it being referenced in various videos. Does tracing paper offer any advantages over the softbox material?
Completely unrelated questions Scott, what is the name of your camera stand?, I've seen it on Karl Taylors channel too, it seems to be very useful kit.
they are so useful. If you can, buy one used as nothing really goes wrong and they are stupidly expesnive. But they will last a lifetime. Mine is a large Manfrotto salon stand with a geared manfrotto head. If you have the money go for the cambo stand and arca swiss head. They are so much better, but the price was far too much for me.
Good Video. Thank you. I'm from a video background and a bit mad so can't help wonder what happens if you bounce two lights (low power) against a large bounce (poly) from either side then through the scrim. I am picturing a larger more even source? not sure how soft it would be in relation to the softbox.
@@neanineto5516 This is actually something we did a lot when I shot portraits. Far more even spread of light. You do need a lot of watts and space though.
Maybe this is just the wrong type of subject matter to really highlight the differences, but I'm not seeing much of a difference in the comparisons at all...
My upload schedule is all over the shop atm. Will gain some normality soon. Still pretty regular on insta stories though instagram.com/scottchoucino/
Great info. I've used a scrim with a reflector for 10 years in my food photography for exactly the reasons you gave.
Very interesting. A video like this isn't likely to go viral, but there's no one else doing anything like it. So thanks!
I like his channel. I usually skip product review channels
Good video mate, I feel like you messed up some words and didn't edit them out though? not a huge thing, just something I noticed. Cheers!

This is a nice explanatory video. And, I like your examples. Thank you!!!
It was interesting to see the difference in color between the godox soft box and the scrim.
FoodTechLife yeah, although neither were accurate, which is more concerning haha
Thank you so much.. your videos are always ..
It would be interesting to see the softbox without the diffusion material. Seems a scrim and a softbox are the same...?
I spat my tea out when you said "Scrim Job" 😂
Same! 😂😂

Oh I didn’t know that. I will have to do some research into it.
can you send links please of the recommended scrims? Thanks

@@TinHouseStudioUK thanks mate I really appreciate that 👍
Spill kill moved back looked best imo. =)
Syltibob yeah it’s a nice look. You can kinda feather it fast the scrim and only announce to make a two light set up to

I don't know if anybody would ever do that either

The N00MER the differences are very subtle. With a silver spoon that’s shiny it would have a very different effect for sure
prtty much what he was saying prior to showing, also YT uploading can have effects on visuals. But, be carful, lights can play tricks on us all! ha
Scrim Job. LoL
