Tijucas is a city in the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil . Is located at latitude 27 º 14'29 "south and longitude 48 º 38'01 " west , with an altitude of 2 meters. Its estimated population in 2008 was 29,122 inhabitants
Around the year 1000, most of the current Brazilian coast was invaded by Indians coming from the valleys of the Madeira and Xingu rivers Tupi -Guarani right bank tributaries of the Amazon River . They expelled the former inhabitants , who spoke Macro - Ge languages , to the interior of the continent . All materials for the construction of the house , which was completed in 1898 , came from Europe and had , as early residents , the matriarch Chiquinha Gallotti and his family , who dominated the region's economy by working with craft and marketing of native woods , among other commercial activities .
Once a year , is held in front of the parish church , a great feast : the feast of the Holy Spirit . The party has the presence of people in the region , such as the cities of Canelinha , Itapema , St. John the Baptist , among others . At Christmas time , we may even see a live nativity scene being staged in front of the church . It is a city with a friendly atmosphere and Azorean culture . Lately , is investing in musicals , performing , usually in times of end of year , various festivals bands .
The popular New Year's Eve Tijucas is another cultural landmark of the city . Established in 2009 and sponsored by the municipal government , event features over 15 minutes of burning fires that happen at the border and even inside the Rio Tijucas . The event also features musical acts of all kinds , local, state , national and international .

Tijucas só vai virar potência industrial e turística assim que os pescadores artesanais abrirem mão do ego e entenderem que a profissão atrasa o crescimento e desenvolvimento da cidade, por conta de meia dúzia de senhores a cidade se arrasta nas negociações com grande empresas para utilização do rio e praia para construção de portos.
