I've just started my dissertation and I have to write 30 pages....arrgh, so happy when I'm done with it haha. And you still have time to be more active in your Master's program and def make use of societies, I can tell you here in Germany we don't have that amazing social uni environment that you have in the UK, I was in Aberdeen for one semester and joined several societies and I loved it, so just go for it:)

Depends what you mean by communication. Some departments will be very good others not so much. And different colleges will vary with their communication. Ahaha I could make a whole video on the criticisms but on the whole it’s actually all good

Hey Charlie! Love your video! I'm going into third year next year and probably being optimistic right now about my diss proposal which you might be too last year! Would like to pop a message to help you perhaps take up youtube in the future to take a more of an identity with the page - you definitely do with the university experience at Durham! But what happens when you leave?! Would love to hear some history-related videos from you if you wanted to share about it even though history is not my initial interest - I love hearing what other people are excited about (Definitely the routines of historical figures ie monks is my favourite!)

i think i will be firming my offer at durham soon, but one thing kind of concerns me. i know a friend who was bullied at durham and she was hurt so bad that she had to quit uni after two months and im lowkey scared that it would happen to me too. dont know if it is a racism thing or not but do you have any thoughts on that? like are ppl actually nice at durham and is racism a big problem there bc the uni doesnt seem to be too racially diverse?

Racism is definitely present at Durham, as it is at every uni. Possibly it is slightly worse here because of the fact the student population is less diverse than in other areas like London, Bristol etc (not a student there so don’t know but a big problem for me personally has been isolation), and the support offered by the uni can be dubious at times. However, lots of student run societies are around to offer support you, dupoca is our greatest resource and there are other smaller identity societies for smaller communities. College & college welfare is there for safeguarding too!
I‘m currently a student at Durham and I found some people that are really nice! So there are good people in Durham. But in general, I‘d say a lot of people are really arrogant and snobish and look down on you if you don‘t have „the right“ background. The biggest problem for me is that you can‘t escape it because the city is so small. I guess I‘d find it easier if I could go on a walk or go for a coffee or go for a meal without constantly seeing students.
If I could do it again I wouldn‘t go to Durham again and go to a bigger city. You‘ll always meet people you don‘t like but in a bigger city at least you don‘t feel suffocated by them.
