      This one is deserving of a season 2, but yet there’s no information on that. It is called “The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat” It’s about an assassin who in his previous life repressed all his emotions and in his next life, also as an assassin, he isn’t going to repress his emotions and not be a tool for killing anymore.

    Watching frieren has helped me a good deal with friends moving on to the next stages of their lives. Certainly not as significant or irreversible as Frieren's old party aging and dying, but it's helped me cope with many of my friends not having the free time to spend together anymore now that they are starting families and the small loneliness that comes with that.

      I feel like the point of frieren is you should make time for the people you love while theyre still here and not drift apart. If you really care about someone, you'll find the time.

    The pacing of Frieren was such a refresher. So many shows now have plots that move so fast, it feels like they have no time to breathe. Frieren isn’t afraid to have its characters and its story stop, slow down, breathe, and reflect. That feels pretty special.

    • @TheKueiJin
      @TheKueiJin 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Very true, but please note that that's the overarching theme. Those few seconds that you are on this earth are, and shall always be, precious. Maybe you don't realize that they are precious to you, but they are to someone. So cherish them!

    • @ichigokurosaki4976
      @ichigokurosaki4976 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I don't think that's true. On my experience many Shōnen right now are too slow. They put time in things that aren't needed. On the other side, works like JJK are super fast but doesn't feel rushed, because that's exactly what the work needs.
      Frieren is builded to be on that tempo, that's why It feels so great to watch It. Maybe you simply don't like the shows with faster narratives and that's okay. But taking It slow isn't something every work should do or need.

    • @Mr_Mimestamp
      @Mr_Mimestamp 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@ichigokurosaki4976 you could be right, I don’t watch a lot of Shonen.
      I’m definitely not saying a faster pace is inherently bad. It’s just that Frieren makes such a deliberate effort to slow down, it relishes that slow time, those moments of silence, in a way that was pretty surprising and new to me.
      But maybe I just need to watch more shows.

    • @ichigokurosaki4976
      @ichigokurosaki4976 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@Mr_Mimestamp
      Nono, it's completely fantastic if you enjoy more slow shows. Not everybody enjoys everything on this life. I could encourage you to at least try to watch some faster shows like the mentioned JJK if you didn't already. But it's great you can enjoy what you like, and Frieren is a very good slow paced anime, It really does an excellent work on It.

    • @Fs3i
      @Fs3i หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ichigokurosaki4976 I think the thing that feels different about Frieren is that it isn't afraid to have moments without drama or danger. It has scenes that are comfortable. Yes, Shōnen is often drawn out, but not necessarily in a comfy way. A single fight lasting four episodes isn't necessarily relaxing, right?
      But Frieren has episodes where the stakes are "let's clean this statue" or "let's convice this old grumpy lady we're cool".
      And after intense moments, it takes the time to slow down deliberately.
      Heck, spoilers, but the final test in the last arc in the show, it's just talking. That is a choice I love, and not one that like, every show dares to make.

  • @johnnydarling8021
    @johnnydarling8021 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +50

    I just finished binging Frieren. I greatly enjoyed it.
    I was particularly moved by, well I guess you could call it the "inciting incident", which caused her to change her apathetic outlook on life.
    The death of her friend, Himmel.
    At first, she isn't sad because she didn't really know him.
    But then she's in tears... because she didn't really *KNOW* him.
    Which sets up her new take on life, choosing to take an interest in those around her. To care about them.
    And we (the audience) care, because she cares.
    Also, I hear it has been greenlit for a new season.

    Ive been in love with this series for over 3 years now, i love how the author explores the themes of what it means to be human through not-quite-human eyes, and how every melancholic tone has a contrast with the warmth of new companions

  • @TwilightMemories

    The detail I loved about Frieren was how, instead of coming up with new fantasy rules for how the world/magic works, they simplified it by making the story take place as the rules are being MADE. The reveal of Zoltraak's history and current use is namely what I'm thinking of here. It blew my mind away.

    I did not expect the first and last episode to make me cry, but they really turned the waterworks on. My best friend suddenly died the very night we last spoke (over a decade ago) and this series really tugged on that sudden loss of someone dear to you. Especially when you always thought you had so much time left. Probably doesn't help we went on a trip abroad not that long before either... 😢

    It follows a character who is also immortal, and must find out what it is to live, have relationships and connections with others, and deal with the pain when those people eventually die if they are still alive. It’s an absolutely wonderful show, if a bit (more than a bit) sad at times.

    Regarding some other anime i think you'd enjoy from a worldbuilding and storywriting perspective, I think you would thoroughly enjoy Attack on Titan between its layered and thoughtful characters, its deep worldbuilding and story, and amazing music and art/animation.

    One of the aspects I loved most about frieren was that it's subject matter is extremely touchy to me, the idea of wasting time, but it deals with it in a masterful approach, it is really about appreciating every moment regardless of how long or short it is.
    For recommendations, if you feel confident in *correctly* spending 8 months of your life reading (and i recommend reading more than watching) 100+ chapters, I would recommend One Piece, it is known as the kind of world building for a reason, a silly story about a boy made out of rubber that wants to become the king of the pirates, traveling the world to find a legendary treasure.
    And other than that, I would REALLY recommend Witch Hat Atelier, it's about a young girl who wants to become a witch, it's getting an anime next year BUT the manga is already one of the most gorgeous, inventive and most technically impressive crafts I've ever seen, beyond standard comic craftmaking, it works with things such as making manga covers in Art Noveau, its clear the author really loves art, and that's just the visual part, I can't even begin on the writting and the lovable characters, there's also one of the best magic systems that nobody talks about.
    also I figured it's been mentioned hundreds of times by now but Dungeon Meshi cannot be recommended enough

    Assassination Classroom!!!
    The base concept is, "Strange being capable of planetary destruction becomes the teacher for a class of middle school misfits, who are tasked by the government to kill him before he destroys earth."
    But the story isn't about the impending doom hanging over their heads, or the various acts of violence committed by various parties over the school year. The Unkillable Teacher uses the framework of assassination to teach the kids how to solve "mundane" problems, ranging from schoolwork and bullies, to internal self image and external relationships, to military mindsets and systemic inequities between groups.

    Dungeon Meshi or Delicious in Dungeon is a pretty good show with truly great choices in its world building. The manga is finished so there's already a neat bow wrapped around it while the first of two seasons of the anime is currently airing.

    I would suggest you watch Mob Psycho 100 , its already finished , greatly adapted with creative animation that will blow you away only outshine by the great character development and its relatable story, which only gets better the more you watch.

    You really should watch/read "Land of The Lustrous". It's a well-crafted masterpiece of a story about finding your purpose and what it means to be a human, in a world of immortal gem people. And the manga for ended recently in an intentioned 108 chapters. Sadly tho, the anime only has one season, so I'd recommend reading it more than watching. I know you're averse to reading on digital devices, so I hope you can find the physical copies soon enough.

    I think you will definitely like Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon, and maybe Romance Killer. The latter is surprisingly real and grounded, and if you like a little cheesy friendship and love, it might tickle your fancy

    Frieren has been great, I'm very excited for when we get more of it.
    One that I'd recommend that also fits into the fantasy journey category is Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina. It's a bit more anthology-like so almost all the episodes are a little different from each other.

    I've never seen Frieren (may have to now), but based on your description I think you might really enjoy The Ancient Magus' Bride. It's about a young woman who becomes the apprentice of an ancient mage who is focused primarily on preserving the natural magic of the world.

    While I would recommend the Light Novels (LN) over the anime, it would be a great time now to get into "Spice and Wolf." It's an economical intrigue series with religious intrigue on top. I also recommend "Ascendance of a Bookworm" also a LN with an anime. It asks the questions many fantasy stories dont such as "how do ppl get food" and has a very "worldbuilding creep". "Apothecary Diaries" for the final LN and anime recommendation. It's a medical mystery with political intrigue in historical Chinese inspired setting.

    I absolutely love Frieren and I consider it to be the perfect anime for new anime watchers, other than Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. It's now one of my top 5 favorite animes. Also, Frieren isn't immortal. She just ages slow due to being an elf.

    I'm interested to know what you'd think of an anime called Ascendance of a Bookworm.
    It's part of a genre of anime called "Isekai," usually translated as "in another world". Isekai are portal fantasies, of the same variety seen in stories like Chronicles of Narnia in the West, but have become particularly popular in recent years as a form of escapist fantasy and worldbuilding exercises. Ascendance of a Bookworm is a fairly calm and grounded version of the formula, wherin the protagonist dies or is otherwise insdisposed, and finds themselves awakening having reincarnated in an alternate universe of fantasy and magic. Of course, our protagonist is not the usual heroic power-fantasy, she is someone who's fondest desire is to surround herself with books, and who has been reborn into the body of a sickly and physically frail child. It's interesting to explore this fantastical feudal society from the bottom up as she slowly changes her circumstances and grows in this new life, and new world.
    I think you might enjoy it, at the very least!

      @@bretginn1419 I loved it but I wouldn't think to recommend it to someone who doesn't watch anime. I was a child bookworm though, I was hyperlexic and my favourite places in cities are libraries. So I heavily could relate to the horror of living in a world without books/libraries for the non-nobility. It kept frustrating me though that the peasant life was shown as a bit more stupid than what it would be in reality. I mean yes it's an alien world but using scraps to make stock and maxing out the use of what you have when you're poor is really basic.
