Goodness, I needed someone to tell me these things. I haven't had very much time for art lately because I've been overthinking my way through graduate school. Your art talks are almost always translatable, not only across different mediums and art styles, but to other passions, productivity, and wellbeing.
ah that means a lot to hear. I'm really glad you think it translates that way. That's always a hope I have. I don't think these ideas apply exclusively to creativity or the arts, certainly Atomic habits wasn't just written for artists. Very cool you're in grad school though! Congrats on an awesome pursuit!
@@RobinSealark It's hard to find a channel that encourages the growth of life skills as art skills and vice versa. I think that it's refreshing that you offer resources like Atomic Habits as well as your own insight that go beyond specific techniques and into more internal creative obstacles. Thank you for the reply!!
Really needed this! I have such a hard time comparing my art to others. Recently I learned that one of my coworkers paints also so I was talking to him about it and sheepishly showed him my work and he got really intimidated and nervous to show me his. When he showed me his paintings...holy cow! Why he was intimidated by mine, I don't know because his work is beautiful! We truly are our own biggest critics. I've been in such a block to create something ✨spectacular✨ that it limits me from just creating something ordinary. I have renewed hope that I'll hop back on the tracks and keep plugging along. Thanks, Robin!!
I'm so glad you're doing more of these kinds of videos,.. not that I don't LOVE learning about painting from you as well. Just wanted to say that I am inspired by you, and have loved watching you since I first saw one of your quietly hilarious videos about a year ago. I"m grateful you're here, and since I"m positive I'm old enough to be your mom, I feel an odd urge every time i see you to say how very proud I am of you. 🤷🏻♀️
I can’t even begin to explain how perfect this video is for the scenario im in right now, just know that your art is truly beautiful and your words are felt at heart.
I believe that you have been a coach and true friend to strangers online, finding positivity online can be difficult. More often than not there are people that wish to tear you down. I have found that you are consistently a positive influence in many peoples lives, not only artists but you present good ideas for every viewer! I do so enjoy watching your videos and seeing you create a fantastic artwork as you present positive life affirming dialogue that speaks to everyone. Thank you. You have truly created a new category of video presentation! I hesitate to say new medium, yet I have not seen any other videos that take your approach and reach out to every aspect of life and growth. A true joy to watch, so glad that you continue to create and share your art/life journey with us.
Hi Robin! Thank you so much for sharing an approach to facing fear that feels both practical and gentle. I don't feel any shame when I listen to what you said in this video. Instead I feel encouraged and willing to try even if, and most likely, means that things won't go as expected. But life never promised certainty and to embrace that truth is scary, but ultimately fulfilling.
Thank you for giving me this when I needed it. 🙏😭 school has been difficult for me. Not just for creative endeavours this is for my approaching finals. Thank you.
Hey Robin! Brilliant video on a much needed topic. Your mom's F.E.A.R. quote is popular in the 12 step family of recovery groups. Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was famous for her fear quote: "You have nothing to fear but fear itself." Some irresistible songs to get you past your thoughts and dancing and arting quickly and easily: "Don't Stop" (Fleetwood Mac), "You Gotta Be" (Des'ree), "September" (Earth, Wind & Fire). Art analogy songs I've loved for years: "Painted Picture" (Commodores), "True Colors" (Cyndi Lauper). Much love from Louisiana.
Thank you for this well needed pep talk, I’ve only started painting from before doing mostly pencil realism portraits and always aim towards perfection and making my drawing as life like as possible. But I find with painting it’s so much more lose and my mind is still trying to make things perfect and of course that’s not how it works out and I get frustrated and walk away. But my love for creating landscape painting is strong. I just needed some words of wisdom. Thank you, you so easy to listen to and watch😌
OMG Atomic Habits was SOOOO GOOOD. Helped me so much instantly. I listened to it for free on TH-cam, loved it so much that I was just about to buy it. You mention of it just confirms I should grab it :D
Super rad video. This was mindfully composed and it shows. Encouraging to hear and see the effort. Moral and ethical consistency. Not only words but behaviors. I needed this when I awoke this morning. Commenting after my 3rd watch. 🤙🙏 Great paintings as well.🤗
@@RobinSealark yes! I heard about book Power vs Force before 2 years from one of my fav youtubers - Aaron Doughty. I found it are read pdf in English. Yesterday i receive book in Bulgarian. I think you enjoy it and maybe make video...
Deem, guuurl! Those paintings are amazing... Just UNO MOMENTO AGO I was thinking I wanted to ask you to show me how to paint with glowing parts, deep darks, and contrasts that did not get rid of the value transition shading from dark to light!
Thank you for your gorgeous words! You have a really captivating way of speaking and creating, I loved watching you work! I came here orginally from a hair tutorial, but I will be sticking around! I can't wait to try out oil paint myself!
I needed to hear this!! I've been spending hours learning, researching, getting references (even buying new art supplies and materials) and barely actually doing any art :/, an absolute overthinker. Thanks for this video :))
Thank you, for again finding the things I need to hear. Atomic Habits has been sitting on my bedside table, waiting a few months for me to begin it... Now's the time.
Right in time for the time of year where many people compare their art to others...including me! Inktober! Thank you! Needed this as I am not enchanted with how my piece came out today! Yay Robin!
Wow, Robin, what an amazing video full of great advice. It must take so much time to put something like this video together - thank you so much! Very good information and something I really need to hear.
You are always so inspiring and I just love who you are (or as much as you present here). You are incredibly intelligent, amazingly creative, and so gracious to be sharing your knowledge with the world - Its an extra treat for us that you are so great at editing as well as watching you paint!
I'm constantly over planning things and not just for art, but for art i probably over think my ideas until im bored of them and no longer want anything to do with it and then its just rinse and repeat and then of course a lot of hours spent looking for ref photos rather then actually drawing....
I'm watching Mormon general conference with my family (even though I'm not involved in the church anymore). One of them just shared the story of the British cycling coach. I was lije.... WAIT, I know this story?!?
I read the same for Van Gogh in his 10 year career. That's a hard commitment! On one hand I'm impressed, on the other it's a bit extreme for my idea of work life balance. Maybe if I made all my income from painting exclusively I'd be more open X)
@@RobinSealark Thats fair, they lived in a time before the internet when life was a bit slower. Still inspiring though, and thanks for the great video Robin!

Hello, I'm from Philippines. Please notice me... I am a big fan of yours ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ahh crisp lines ,
Look at Pablo Picasso (or any prolific painter), he cranked out a painting every day minimum.
